Highmark blue cross/shield. Are you from Seattle?

I would be very careful losing that amount of weight. My doctor said 1lb/month. What is your current BMI?
33% I can lose weight. I do every spring/summer then September hits and I gain it all back. My weight loss and gain has been the same the last 20 yrs! It has taken a toll on my body and health. That's why I was hoping to get the surgery in September to help not to gain.. which will be my 6 months needed for insurance. I get to a certain weight about 29% BMI and I cannot lose anymore.KCgirl061 reacted to this -
The general practice is to go from your weight when you started the pre-op games, but that can vary by company. There should be a policy bulletin online for your insurance that spells it out, or you can all them and hope to get a right answer.
Starting at such a low BMI, I would be disinclined to lose much weight at all as the surgery is plenty powerful to get the job done without any pre op weight loss. What I did (starting closer to 50 BMI) with that 6 month insurance requirement was to work on my long term diet and lifestyle (since that's the hard part - anyone can lose some in the short term!) and take whatever weightloss happened as a bonus. It wound up being about 50 pounds and for a variety of reasons (my wife being number 1 on the runway being the primary) I didn't go through with the surgery at that time, some 13 years ago. But I did maintain that loss up until I did undergo the WLS, and have maintained that loss for about six years now, so the exercise was successful from that perspective.
So, check with your insurance as to how they calculate things, and maybe readjust your focus over the remaining time until surgery. Good Luck...
Thanks I'm going to look on line or call -
Yeah I'm thinking mine is fully covered too but I had other insurance at first and they said they cover [emoji817] as a secondary but I lost the other plan so hopefully it pays [emoji817] as the primary too

I have highmark BCBS, and when I log in online I can see my policy and get estimates based on my insurance for the cost of any procedure. I'm not sure if BCBS IL has it, but they're the same company so they might. They had bypass and band as options, but not sleeve, but I'm sure bypass is close to sleeve. The estimate included EVERYTHING, hospital surgeon, blood work, ekg, etc. And depending on the hospital it shows the different prices. It was crazy to see how one hospital the bill was 27k-30k, and the hospital I'll be doing it at is 13k-17k. It also explains the breakdown of what your total estimate might be.

I have the same insurance. What is your out of pocket expense? -
Do you guys think I will get denied if I started the process at 36 BMI and now after 2 months I'm down 20lbs and still have 4 months before surgery. Should I keep losing or just maintain? I have comorbities

Are you only having fluids? What is your pre op Diet?

We are not made to eat chemicals. Look around at all the sick people, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, children all have add, adhd. That specifically comes from eating unhealthy fake food. Mac n cheese and nuggets are NOT real food. They are chemically altered imitations of food.
Do some research before calling my post illiterate. Read some labels. We are not made to ingest chemicals no matter how small an amount or how safe they tell us it is.
Look at the diet of a healthy person. Trash and junk food are not a part of it. Diet sodas are a chemical Soup.
It is your body. If you feel good about what you put in it then that is your choice. But don't try to sugar coat a post that is made to help people who genuinely struggle with addiction and are searching for a way to break it and eat healthier. That's who this post is for.
I agree with you completely!K_aane and SalZ reacted to this -

Hoping for August just started the process last month

I'm down 35 pounds and 4 months to go till I can have the VSG done. Extremely proud of myself with my loss. I am a firm believer in not weighing in until I have dr appointments. It makes it great to see the progress you have achieved!

Ok I hope that it's the same in Seattle! Thanks

I had a BMI of 36 with comorbitities but since I've seen the nutritionist I'm starting to lose. If I become below 35 will I get rejected for surgery, or is it what you start the process as? I lose every year and gain it back

After surgery are you in ICU?
