Calcium Citrate pills - how long out?
njgal replied to TBGoat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Which ones? I also got the petites but petite doesn’t seem to be “petite” and I’d love to try something else. -
2.5 weeks out, I don’t really go by carbs but checking my intake I see that I seem to be in the 45-60 range daily.

Yep, I agree, check with your doc about instructions. Mine has me taking Prilosec OTC too but daily. -
Calcium Citrate pills - how long out?

I started taking everything including calcium 3rd day post-op as per my surgeon’s instructions. I’m told it’s a lifelong thing. -
A record of my experience... from start to finish... rants and all!

Alrighty folks! Update time. I am now 2.5 weeks post op and am slowly learning to listen to my body. I’m experimenting with food but find that variety isn’t that attractive at the moment. I’ll eat something a couple of days in a row if it works. I plan for the whole 4 ounces at each meal but mostly push it away about halfway through. I also still drink protein shakes twice a day. I’m not feeling hungry, except for when I go way past my designated eating time. I’ve lost 20 lbs but honestly I only weigh myself for the record, I am more concerned about establishing habits. I’ve been spotting on and off since I came home and there’s slight bruising on my left side. Both minor inconveniences really. My knees don’t hurt anymore and I’ve already sent off one bag of clothing. I always make it a point to reach my goal of 10k steps everyday. That usually involves 40-50 minutes on the treadmill at 2 mph, no incline. I was advised not to do exercise that breaks a sweat just yet but honestly it’s what I feel comfortable with anyway. -
There are whole lists on this forum; check them out. I would definitely go with: Slippers (easier than sneakers) Comfy pants for your privacy (pjs did the trick) Sleeping mask (to cover your eyes) Some people swear by gas-x strips, I didn’t use them and my team said they wouldn’t help the gas pain I would have but people swear by them nonetheless. Morristown Memorial provides toothbrush etc but take your own if you prefer (toiletries) I was in no position to do so but book/ipad/phone etc and charger, you might be up to it. Killian mentioned noise cancelling phones; think about that. People also mentioned a pillow for your ride home. I was totally fine without it though.

Well, I’m just learning to listen to my body so I’m no authority on the matter yet. However, I have noticed that assuming I sat slowly and chew properly I start burping when I’m full. Almost as if my tummy is trying to make room to accommodate the food. I haven’t really pushed the limits much but it looks like if I eat 1-2 baby spoons to much I do a bit of a wet burp.

True! I started with 250 and was an 18

It went very well. And by that I mean pre-op was great, very friendly nurses and all. Post-op completely sucked for me; at this point I’m thinking it was more my reaction to the anesthesia than anything else but while having planned for outpatient I ended up staying for two nights. I cannot emphasize the importance of walking, walking, walking. So much so that I had pegged a bathroom away from my room just so I would have to walk. Everybody’s different so you may be spared all the crappiness. Oh, and all the staff at post-op were very nice too! When all is said and done though I’m glad I had it. Not only am I 2.5 weeks out and lost 20 lbs but I can feel my whole body resetting! Haven’t had that all-telling “you’re full, for Pete’s sake STOP” feeling yet but definitely don’t feel as hungry anymore and honestly I haven’t really pushed it either. Who’s your surgeon?

You know you lost weight when
njgal replied to Thomas CPA's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
When a rather long top grazes the backs of ones legs where there had been no contact before. Same goes for bumping into/not bumping in to corners or furniture one would previously have had the opposite experience with. -
Got sleeved on a tuesday fully expecting to be outpatient but ended up staying in the hospital for two nights. No complications just pain and overall crappiness. Still, was back at work on monday for my desk job so go figure

I’d so like to throw in my two cents and say that apparently often times heartburn can be confused with hunger. So pop a Tums and see if that does it?

Awwww... I feel for you!! A nice cuppa, a soft blanket and some Netflix might help?

Can I get by without blending foods ?
njgal replied to Mhy12784's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, no blending for me either and I’m going through that just now. Too lazy to be honest -
New comer. Any suggestions/advice?
njgal replied to tiff86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep; take everything in its stride. There might be delays (insurance, scheduling, etc), there will be hoops to jump through and most importantly your journey will be yours and yours alone. Don’t go comparing yourself to others; it’ll only bring you down. And do your research; I don’t mean just the success stories but there’s a lot to be learned from people who didn’t get what they wanted out of surgery as well. -

njgal replied to njgal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, I can tell you what my surgeon has me on and it is as follows: 1 x multi-vitamin/day (any as long as it has 400 units of folate in it). i.e. Centrum 1 x calcium citrate (to be taken 3 hrs after multi because multi has iron in it) 1 x vitamin d 5000 1 x calcium late afternoon I also take a weekly vitamin b nasal spray Now the multi runs at $16 for a 200 count at amazon so what, a 6 mo supply? The calcium is a bit more pricey but as long as it is citrate you can shop around. (Don’t get the carbonate version) The vitamin D is easily shop-aroundable. I got mine at Trader Joe’s. And the vitamin B is $25/mo but is rx so your doc needs to call it in. Alternatively you can take daily pills. Hope this helps! -

Can some people let me know how long you were in the Hospital?
njgal replied to sug7768's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was braced to be outpatient, leave the same day. I ended up staying two nights with the blessings of my doctors because the gas pain subsequent to surgery was so severe that overall crappiness ensued. All good now. -
Ooooh love the Tabasco idea
