  1. I researched the balloon a little today. I kinda like the idea of it but it is such a new concept that insurance doesn't cover it yet. I do think they offer some financing options like care credit and the like. The balloon is inserted and inflated during an endoscope and later removed the same way. The balloon takes up about 1/3 of the stomach but there is a dual one available as well. There is a liquid diet a few days before and after. The procedure only last about 20 minutes under local anesthesia. The first few days after procedure sound very rough such as gas, bloating and many people vomit for a couple of days but then it seems to get a lot better. It is suggested to take a week or two off work. It is removed 6 months later. During that 6 months while you are losing weight you are going to classes learning about nutrition and exercise.

Going to give it some thought and pray about all of it.

  2. AnneElliot,

Thank you so much for your honesty! I really appreciate it! All of the things that you mentioned have weighed heavily on my mind recently. I haven't read/heard that many people say anything negative except for that short time afterward when they regretted it but say that passed. I wonder if more people feel the way you do but are too embarrassed or whatever to admit it.

How long ago was your surgery?

  3. I am having trouble wrapping my brain around daily dieting and exercising after getting the sleeve. Is this a sign that I shouldn't do this? I went to my second appt with the nutritionist yesterday and had only lost a pound and a half. I did pretty well with eating and exercising but dang it is hard! I'm not as excited as I was a month or so ago. I'm not planning to get sleeved until this summer. Any advice?

  4. Short girl here too! 5'2" 230 lbs with fat belly that I hate! I love all the above comments! I love that colorful language! I'm like that too! Most people I tell are happy for me but some have said "oh no you don't need to do that just eat right and exercise" Really? You don't think I have tried that more times than I could count? Duh! That's why I want to get the surgery so I can diet and exercise more easily and without pain to lose the weight and have it stay the f*** off of me! Hugs to all y'all!

  7. My family and a few friends know I want to do this. Everyone is supportive. I do understand though what it is like to have a family member tell you how much you need to lose weight at least once a month. That same person has never had to lose weight. Same person offered to pay what insurance doesn't but I am not accepting because I know how it will be reigned over me and every morsel of food I put in my mouth watched when around said person. Been thru something similar with this family member before but not again. Almost ruined our relationship!

  8. Heather

I too am wanting the sleeve. I have been to see the surgeon and really like him. My insurance requires the 6 mo supervised diet. I hope to have mine done this summer. I do/have done lots of research and read 2-3 books and reading "The Big Book on Gastric Sleeve" now. I have learned a lot here and on YouTube. Research a lot! Knowledge is power!

    Take care and God Bless!
