    Just starting out and scared

I saw one of my student's mom who looked great and revealed she had been sleeved. I got some info from her and decided to start researching it. I had never considered doing anything like that before. Seeing her look so happy and losing weight really got me kinda excited to possibly getting the surgery. My best advice for you is research and read as much as possible. Right now I am reading "The Big Book on Gastric Sleeve" on my kindle. I have also read "The Sleeved Life." I have watched many YouTube videos of people who have had it done, the good and bad. I even watched a gastric sleeve surgery on there too. I went to the seminar on 1/10 and saw the surgeon to see what my insurance requires. I really like my surgeon and his staff. They made me feel very comfortable and were very encouraging. 9. Good to know! Thanks! How much did your insurance pay? I am anxious to find that out. My dad said he would pay what insurance doesn't. He is really excited for me to get this surgery! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  10. Thank you! What happens at the first appointment?
  11. I have my 1st appt with the surgeon tmrw. I'm anxious to see what I will have to do in the next few months. I hope to have my surgery in June. I work in a public school so I will have about 8 weeks off to recuperate and get used to new way of eating and exercising before the next school year begins end of July.
  12. Awesome! Have you had your surgery yet?

    Already sleeved question

In a book I read recently, the author had the gastric sleeve surgery and when people tell her she took the easy way out she basically asks them do they wash their clothes on a rock or washboard or do they use a washing machine? Washing machine is the "easy way out" and she makes other comparisons like that. I thought that was funny. I haven't had the surgery yet but nothing I've read or heard in any way, shape, form, or fashion says this is easy by any means. Knowledge is power! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  16. I got curious about it and looked at YouTube. Some people use Nivea for cellulite. Jergen's makes a skin firming lotion. There are some neoprene wraps that you can wear on areas that may sag like upper arms, stomach, and for thighs. Who knows if any of it works. I even saw a blog where a lady used Preparation H and Saran Wrap. Again don't know if it works but heck it might be worth a try. Most people say strength train and drink a lot of water.
  17. I wish the same for you too!! I'm 55 yrs old and was afraid my age may make the recovery a little tougher, but it's now the next day and STILL feel absolutely fine. I was most worried about not be able to get down fluids postoperative, but again, no problems there either. I'm certainly not complaining, but after ready a lot of post on this forum I am really shocked it's been this non-eventful That is very encouraging to see. I am 54 and wondering if recovery would be harder because of age. Hoping to have my surgery in June. I get summers off because I am an educator. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  19. My seminar was on the exact same date. I had done so much research that I didn't hear anything new. Meeting the surgeon and his staff was great as they were all very nice! Made me feel very comfortable. The surgeon was very down to earth and super friendly. Good luck on your journey! Read as much about it as you can and watch people who have had it on YouTube, the good and the bad. Knowledge is power. God Bless! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    secrets

I wanted to add that the lady that wrote "The Sleeved Life" has some interesting and some are quite humorous ideas of what to say to people when their response is not so positive. Also it is a quick and good read! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    secrets

Thick2Thin2016 I have told a lot of people I plan to have VGS this summer because I am one of those open book type people. Everyone I have told so far has been very supportive. The others are just concerned for my health but I tell them I am doing this for my health. I am a Christian as well as my family, friends and my coworkers are all Christian so we all pray for each other about all kinds of things. It is nice to know people care and want what is best for me. I do know people who have had it that are very secretive about it and I respect their decision. I am just not that way. Those same people have been very nice to share their experiences with me and I really appreciate that by keeping their secret. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. Hi Margie! I'm kinda in the same boat with you! I have told my hubby that if he wants sweets to leave the house to go get it and eat it away from the house too or keep it at work but don't bring it home! He says "well just don't eat it!" Well that doesn't work for a sugar addict! We have had quite a few arguments about it! I have talked to him numerous times about how he is sabotaging my weight loss. He does better for awhile but slowly starts it again. Maybe once I have the surgery he will stop! I had him go to the seminar with me. He has done a little better. Guess we will see if we have to have more "come to Jesus" meetings! Good luck on your journey! Melissa Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
