  1. Not sure what your diet is supposed to be 3 weeks out, but do NOT go off the diet. Make up whatever story you want, but don't "cheat". Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  2. That last sentence could be confusing. I'll clarify it: It is easier for the body to convert muscle to sugar than it is to convert fat to sugar. So it will select unused muscle first. And, why does the body want to turn anything into sugar? The brain's only fuel is sugar (not fat or protein), and it needs a constant, steady supply. If you don't eat enough, the body will go looking! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

  4. My understanding of why exercise is important: The muscles store glycogen (sugar) for quick use. 1. If you don't exercise and eat less: the body starts mobilizing fat and muscle to fuel the body. Turns them into sugar in the blood, the muscles are still full of glycogen, so there is nowhere for the sugar to go, so it gets converted back into fat. 2. If you diet and exercise: The muscles use up their stores of glycogen, so the sugar in the blood has a place to go! Also, if the body is using its muscles, it won't be in a hurry to break them down to use for fuel. If the muscles aren't being used, it is easier for the body to convert muscle to sugar than fat, so it will select muscle first. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  5. I am in between doctors right now. Should have the new one in pkace in a couple months. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  6. Thanks! (haven't had surgery yet) I have been having some symptoms, but nothing too dramatic. (Upper abdominal pressure and oily stools) no pain. Wondered whether it could be gallbladder related. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  7. Yep! Sounds like a plan Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  8. Did you say you ate a grape? It really is too early for any solids. It sounds unusual to vomit some liquid up hours after you drank it. Try to pay attention to how much stays down vs how much comes back up. (Measure your vomit, gross, I know... just keep a measuring cup with you to make the "deposit") Try different liquids to see what you can tolerate. Water down the Protein shake or juices. If you can't keep anything down except water, you really need to tell the doc.. but it helps to have specifics. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  9. No problem! I wish someone had laid it out like that for me. Scared the dickens outa us (for a long time!). We were like, 6 months! Seemed really long until I learned more about it. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  10. He had a ct scan looking for a hernia and it caught a picture of the lung. They followed it for a couple years. It "grew" to 4mm, then stopped. Reality is 2mm or 4mm might be the same size, depending on who is doing the measuring. There is no test that can tell what a pulmonary nodule IS until it gets to be about 1cm (10mm) in size. Even cancer doesn't grow THAT fast, so a 2mm nodule that is cancer takes a couple years to get to 1cm. BUT, like I said, more than 99% of these tiny nodules are NOT cancer. Something like 20% of the population have them. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  11. Oh ok. No biggie at all. Same as my husband's. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  12. CM or MM? There is a big difference. 5mm is 99% of the time nothing. 5cm is a bit concerning. Either way, prepare yourself for more tests. Docs like to follow them to see if they grow. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  13. How big was the nodule? My husband has a small nodule that is no big deal. They are very common. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

  16. Hypoglycemia IS scary and dangerous. I live with a diabetic that experiences it. I don't know if the bypass might make it worse, but seems like the mandatory protein/frequent meals might make it better! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  17. It really sounds like dumping... in that negative reinforcement will help keep your diet in line. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App

  21. Personally I would wean before surgery. Too many potential medications, hormone release during weight loss, malnutrition, etc. I nursed each of my kids for a year, then did me-stuff after weaning. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  22. Definitely talk to your doc. Count up how much sodium you are taking in in a day and report back... Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  23. What are your biggest considerations/concerns? Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  24. Just wondering... in the day or two before the pain started, did you fly anywhere? Go on a long car trip? Anything unusual? It would be nice to know if this is only a complication from the surgery, or a combination of factors. How long do you stay in the hospital? Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
  25. Wow, you have been through the wringer! Bet they'll get your vein the first time! Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App
