Hi. I'm an aussie and have been reading all the posts about insurance and long waiting periods in the US. It's so different here. If you have health insurance you already know what your policy covers so no approvals required. So this makes the process much quicker. I saw my surgeon late Nov and my surgery is in 2 weeks. Could have been earlier if not for Xmas/New Year holidays, requiring a gastroscopy and my surgeon away on leave. I don't know if I could have coped waiting for up to a year for this surgery. Hats off to all of you who keep going. It's all going to worth it. I'm so excited for my surgery.

Glad to see fellow Aussies out there. I have Feb 9 date for surgery in Perth. Finally! Excited. My surgeon doesn't mandate liquid diet but I will be doing it as I have fatty enlarged liver. Going to get in best physical shape to ensure safe surgery. He recommends Isopure Zero drinks. Very high in Protein and comes in about 6 flavours including tea. Have to buy on line.

Meg you are so right! I have high BP and chol too. Not as high but rapidly heading in that direction. It's so true what other people say to you. 'You're not fat' or 'Go for a walk' etc etc. I'd love to go for a walk but my knee and ankle joints won't let me. Every day chores are difficult. I am so looking forward to the day I can walk around a shopping centre without want to sit down every 10 mins and buy new clothes for the wonderful new body I'll have.Do join FB. We all need each other's support.

    Hi all
Haven't joined the Facebook page yet, am not a regular and last looked at my page about 12 months ago. Will sort next week.
High cholesterol (9.5) and blood pressure greater than 165 over 120 was the breaking point for my doctor. He read me the riot act about stroke and heart disease (in my family too) and said he thought surgery would be something I should consider as he's had patients who were very successful. So hopeful that I can come off the meds in a couple of months.
Hubbie is telling me my face looks thinner. I haven't weighed yet.
Today is Day 6 and I've had half a baby's natural yogurt pot with cinnamon and a cup of tea for breakfast. Sitting in a cafe - no one would know I was sleeved on Monday!! Tea is actually very easy to drink.
I am going to try really hard to get to 2L Water, 50g Protein and 5,000 steps today. More than two thirds there yesterday.
I do feel a kind of euphoria....there is a point in the future where I will no longer be overweight. People who haven't been there just don't understand what an awful drain it is. So much wasted energy in feeling fat and sad and hopeless in being able to counter it. The future seems very bright.
    Have a lovely Saturday all.

My surgeon told me not to worry about low Vit D. Will be getting supplement PO. I'm on cholesterol meds. He also told me not to bring them in to hospital cos he will be stopping them.Yay! Sent from my SM-N920I using the BariatricPal App

Hi Banded Becks am in Sydney. Where you?
Each day getting better. Yesterday I had two shakes, about another half litre of Water and a cup of ginger tea, plus a 30 minute walk. Lots of sleep too. Middle feels a bit uncomfortable sometimes but I am pleased to be off the meds.
Am going to try for 50g Protein today and 2L water, plus a walk.
Have been making lists of all the yummy small protein rich puréed meals I can move onto once past this full liquid stage.
Have found a couple of great blogs - the world according to eggface and gastricsleeve4me which have helped pass the time.
Have booked hairdressers for highlights this arvo. Think it will be a great treat. I will sit and relax and drink peppermint tea
Have a good day everyone. Hope the post surgeryites are getting better. Every day is a bit easier.

I'm an aussie having sleeve on Feb 9. It is wonderful to see other ladies in my age group doing the same thing. I will be 61 in April and my bmi is 42. It's never too late to want a positive change. There is still a lot of living to be done. Go girls!

I just found Optifast to be too sweet after surgery. But you can do the same idea with any shake of your own making. It will be good to teach you how slow to eat

I'm with bupa and they will pay minimum benefits. While this means I will be out of pocket at least I don't have to wait a year. I can and will access my super for out of pocket costs. My health will continue to get worse if I waited so I consider this an investment with a great return.

    Hi All
I discovered this site yesterday morning.
I was sleeved at about 1pm. So far, it has been very smooth.
The hospital staff could not be kinder and more attentive.
I have had a couple of incidents or dizziness and retching. Both when I got up to use the bathroom.
I think they are medicating me fairly heavily. But I am awake at 3am.
Sipping Water in 30ml cups and having small ice cubes.
Very excited about recovery and getting to my goal weight!

Clement Tsang is my surgeon. At St Luke's.
Very happy still as at day 2. He gave me photos! All very clear and clean.
Very little if any pain or gas. Just sipping Water, walking a bit and resting.
Lots of googling of next stage food programs, and skinny clothes websites....
Will be discharged tomorrow. Not sure if I'll go straight home. Haven't told the children, or anyone but my husband, and I'm still woozy enough that they'll be asking questions.
They are all naturally slim, fit and organic. It'll be OH MY GOD MUM WHAT HAVE YOU DONE? Reached that stage where this is my time for taking care of me in whatever way I can.....
