    From my experience

I had a sleeve 6 months ago. I've lost almost all the weight I've wanted to, I feel great, look great. I can eat anything I want (I choose not to eat ****, but I'm certainly more than capable of eating a cookie if I so wanted)

I've gone to bars and had mixed drinks, and shots.

I'll concede I haven't tried anything carbonated (soda, beer, diet soda) but I'm almost positive I'd be fine as long as I didn't have a ton.

Smoking is a big no no, but why would anyone do that anyways.

This isn't a bypass, the commitment is certainly substantially less. Which means you'll have to show more willpower than wanting Cookies to be truly successful.

But I did have carbohydrate cravings early on, and there was a few nights I had (whole wheat) Pasta without issue.

The biggest thing is you'll have to learn to chew well and eat slower. As long as you do those things I'm sure you'll be able to tolerate the overwhelming majority of foods if not all of them.

I know this post is from a couple months ago, but I found it extremely helpful. Sometimes you read peoples stories on here that even after two years they still cant hold down food or barely can eat normally. Which makes you worry a lot about getting the surgery.

I am glad to see there are people who have lost the weight and can return to a modified normal diet with some splurges (bar drinking) every now and then,

  2. I greatly appreciate everyone reply to my topic. Everyone's advice has been extremely helpful and I feel it will better me after surgery!

Surgery is on Wednesday (Jan 16th) so I am hoping for the best and that the first couple weeks aren't too bad. I will keep updating on my progress/adding any questions I may have.

To all others with future surgery dates, I hope all goes well!

    Again, thank you everyone!

Don't over buy food and supplies. You will eat so little! I threw out or gave away 80% of what I bought presurgery.

Very good advice! I haven't bought too much for afterward (other than Protein Shakes, liquid type items). I was worried that I wouldn't use or buy to much so I figured I'd buy as I go.

Your stats are amazing! We are pretty close stat wise. What was your weight loss progress like if you don't mind me asking (month by month wise)? It looks like you reached and exceeded your goal within about 10 months or so! I hope to be that lucky!

If you get constipated - stay on top of it. I'd never been before, so I didn't really think about how bad it would be after not going for over a week. And it was bad. Most painful thing I'd had after the first day after surgery.

Think about how your brain works and work with it to make sure you get your liquids/proteins/walking/breathing in. I like logs, etc. So to stay on track, I had a google doc that had a chart on it. It had a space for my required medications, A food/liquid log (time, what I had, how many oz Fluid, how much protein), a place to log my exercise (in the beginning, the # of laps around my bunch of townhomes, how many minutes), a place to log my breathing exercises, and a place for notes. I kept this up for about 2 months. I was also tracking my food in Sparkpeople. Now I just track food/liquids/exercise in Sparkpeople. But, this doesn't work for everyone. Maybe you just need checkboxes or something. Really think about how your brain works to best track your needs. It made me feel better to see that I was getting a bit extra liquid/protein/exercise each day, even when I felt like I was woefully low.

I'm definitely a spreadsheet person, so I think I may take your advice and start a spreadsheet to track everything. Thanks!

After the surgery and for the first few weeks you will be on liquids. I was a huge Water drinker and the transition from chugging liquids to sipping little NyQuil cup sized portions was tough. In the hospital, the nurses kept telling me I was doing it all wrong. I was thinking it was a challenge to see how much I could drink. They had me charting my Water consumption not to see if I was taking in large amounts but to see if I was doing it at the pace they had set for me. The one thing I was doing right was walking as much as possible. I have always been able to do things in extreme measures but it's the moderation part I have to work on. Good luck with your surgery next week. I hope it is as successful as mine was.

Thanks for the advice! I think I may have troubles with slowing down to a sipping pace as well due to the fact that I drink so much water during the day now.

Don’t bring an underwire bra to wear home! I wish someone had told me that - lol! Pain killers can make you constipated so don’t use them unless you REALLY need them. A friend told me that one because she took them and got impacted. Let’s just say that was something I did NOT want to experience! And walk ASAP after surgery. It is the best thing for the gas pain!! Good luck!!!

Very helpful, thank you! I was wondering about what I'd wear home. I will definitely make sure a nice sports bra is in hand lol

  7. Hello all!

I am very excited to say that I am just over a week away from my surgery date of January 16th. I am very excited and feel like I have everything planned out and bought for after my surgery. I was just wondering if anyone could provide any tips or wisdom they had learned the first few weeks after surgery that could be helpful for me. I also would love to hear anything about things you wish you would've known or things that you experienced that people don't talk much about.

Thanks in advance! I look forward to hearing from all of you!

  8. Hello All!

I was just wondering if anyone here had a boob job prior to having gastric sleeve or any weight loss surgery? I had my boobs done about three years ago. I finally got a surgery date and I am wondering how they will look after I lose the weight. I know they are fake, so I'm hoping the shape or form doesn't go from them, but still a little nervous as I've read some of the forums. I'm wondering if I should start saving in order to have them redone after the weight is gone.

Anyone have experience with having fake boobs prior to weight loss surgery and how they turned out after?

  9. Hello All!

I was just wondering if anyone could provide me with information about the first couple of appointments with the doctors. I am going for my first appointment on January 16th to speak with the doctor, dietician, financial advisor and psychologist. I'm lucky that I get to meet with all of them at once instead of having to go back a bunch of different times! I'm not going to lie I am a little overwhelmed with having to meet all these people, but so excited to start this process.

I was hoping someone could share their first appointment story so I could know what to expect and what happens after the initial consultation.

Will there be a follow up appointment to schedule the surgery or do tests?

When do they schedule your surgery? (If doctor and insurance agree)

About how long does the process take from initial consult with all the doctors, dieticians, insurance and psychologist to determining a surgery date?

(Also my insurance does not require the 6 month dieting- BCBSIL)

I'm just not sure what comes next.

    Thanks!

  10. Hello All!

I was just wondering if anyone could provide me with information about the first couple of appointments with the doctors. I am going for my first appointment on January 30th to speak with the doctor, dietician, financial advisor and psychologist. I'm not going to lie I am a little overwhelmed with having to meet all these people. I was hoping someone could share their first appointment story so I could know what to expect and what happens after the initial consultation. Will there be a follow up appointment? When does surgery get scheduled if your doctor and insurance agree. I'm just not sure what comes next.

    Thanks!
