    IBS-D problems?

@@biginjapan I'm going to miss cereal a lot. Especially grape nuts! And honey nut cheerios! I can live without the others. And I'm with you on the cheese. I love white cheese! Especially one from Kerry gold called Dubliner. Omg it's the best cheese I've ever eaten. And cottage cheese I could live on. If I couldn't have those and yogurt is be in big trouble. Just out of curiosity, do you have a problem with raw vegetables causing flare ups? One week! So excited for you! On a totally unrelated note...I want to go to Japan so badly. One day I will get there. The country had always fascinated me. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

    IBS-D problems?

Thank you. I would really like to be updated. Do you have a date or time frame for your surgery yet? It sounds like your diet is pretty much life mine except I can have dairy, though I've often wondered if that's a trigger for my flare ups. BTW, I love your favorite terms and can definitely relate. Look forward to hearing your progress! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

    Eating Disorders and WLS

i eat emotionally. I don't know if there's an actual "disorder" that goes along with how I eat or not, but I have started to go back to therapy to learn how to control it instead of it controlling me. I decided I better get it under control before I have surgery in a couple of months rather than later.
  4. I found out that sometimes it's your choice, sometimes it's your surgeon's. I decided to go with the RNY because of all my health issues and I want the weight off quickly. That was also what the nurse practitioner I saw at my very first clinic visit told me would be the best rout to take. now that being said, she also told me that RNY may not be what I get once they get in there because of the scar tissue that could be in there due to the large number of abdominal laparoscopic surgeries I have had in the last 18 years. (I think the count is now at 8) Just talk to your doc and let them know how you feel about each one and ask their opinion as to which they think would be best for your particular situation as every person's situation is different.

    Changing personality

What they said! I haven't had the surgery yet, but when I told my best friend what I was planning on doing the first words out of her mouth was "please don't change!" When I asked her what she meant she told me about someone she knew that had wls that was so sweet and kind and caring before he lost 240+ pounds and is now a total jerk. So, I know that it happens but don't understand it. I really think @@clc9 is onto something though. Best of luck to you!
  6. Maybe go back to step three (the stage right after soft foods) for a little while? Cut out some of the carbs? In the support group meeting I went to last week that's what was told to the group anyway by one of our RDs. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

    Surgery for a different reason

You will get it. I'm sorry you have a Dr that isn't thinking straight. My RD gave me a schedule to be sure to get everything I needed in....at the top of the hour try to drink 2 oz of Protein shake, 15 minutes later Water, 15 minutes later 2 oz Protein Shake, 15 minutes later crystal light. That way you get in all your Fluid and water needs. My Dr office doesn't offer the Vitamin Patches, but I think that's a really awesome idea! Oh! And be sure to check out the unflavored protein powder! You can add it to your favorite soups. Just remember to mix it into a paste with room temp water first because adding it straight to hot anything will get you glumpy mess. ;D Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

    Scared to see new therapist

@@Redmaxx Thank you. It wasn't as bad as I imagined it would be, but things rarely are, right? The counselor is nice and she is slated to have the rny at the end of summer herself! Now that's what I call luck. Lol! She's even going through the same Dr I am. I couldn't believe it. As for the support group... yes, there is one,but it only meets once a month. Bacon and cashews

It really depends on your nut/dietician/surgeon. Regular Bacon isn't allowed on my plan at all (turkey bacon is though!) And cashews are not forbidden, but they aren't encouraged either. Both bacon and cashews are high in fat, which is supposed to be avoided until goal is hit, according to my RD. It's poopy because I love bacon and cashews both! But, from what i understand, turkey bacon is usually allowed after being cleared for regular foods (i.e. your system is tolerating the soft food phase well-i think after 6 months) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

    Irrational fears?

@@almost40ish I have had problems with my hands going numb and walking me up in the middle of the night for years. I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel back a few years ago. I had surgery on my left hand because it was the worst of the two. I still need the surgery on my right because it still wakes me up on occasion but I have to be re-evaluated before that can happen. Maybe it will improve when I lose the weight? I didn't realize the weight affected that. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App

    Irrational fears?

My Dr. office has me at a goal weight that is like close to 50 pounds over where I actually want to be and I have a feeling that once I'm there I am not going to be happy until I'm down to my actual goal of between 115 and 125. But I've been told by numerous doctors that my ideal weight is 115 for my height and bone structure. I've never been below 145 in my adult life. (Couldn't get into the Navy because of it) So, technically I guess I can see myself at 145, but since I've always been told that even there I was obese...it won't be enough for me.

    Irrational fears?

I envy you that you can see an average size woman and totally understand the mirror thing. I'm different in that I've never been able to see anything other than fat from the waist down. Boobs up...if I'm being honest with myself it's actually shoulders up...I've never had a problem with. It's everything below the shoulders. Especially the stomach area after I had my first c-section (and two more after that) and my left leg that developed lymphoma after a bout of strep in my leg that left me in the hospital for a week.

    Irrational fears?

Don't apologize for rambling. Thank you for taking time to answer. I know exactly what you mean about fearing actually succeeding this time. I've never been comfortable with my size, but I've also had anxiety for years and it's weird that the thought of succeeding is actually making me really nervous. I think part of it is that I have a fear (manifested by my mother - yeah, thanks again mom!) that when I lose the weight I'm going to have all of this excess skin that I won't have the money to have removed and my insurance won't cover it because "it's cosmetic...not medical". I hadn't even thought of that until my mom pointed it out to me. The other thing was my oldest son telling me that he was afraid of going off into the Navy and coming home and not recognizing me because me being morbidly obese was all he's ever known.

    Sabotaging myself?

Thank you all. I am seeing a therapist tomorrow morning and going to talk to him about the surgery and other stuff. I appreciate the advice and I do know i need help. That's why I'm seeking it now rather than later. I want this surgery to be successful. Now to get my mother to stop with the "Let's have tuna noodle casserole for dinner" or "Tomorrow night for dinner, let's have chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, and corn! Doesn't that sound good?!" OMG! Really mom? And I wonder why I keep sabotaging myself?!

    Surgery for a different reason

Congrats on the quitting smoking! Are you seeing a nutritionist/dietitian? Are you trying to drink your protien shakes, taking your Vitamins, and getting your 64oz of Water in? My RD said that the protien should be able to be cut easily with a fork. If it can't be cut with a fork then it isn't soft enough and that the portion shouldn't be any bigger than a matchbook. 1-2 ounces. Good luck with everything. You can do it! 20. I was told by my nut to add the protien powder to a little bit room temperature Water (like maybe a quarter cup) and mix until smooth and then add hot water. Otherwise the protien will clump. I tried it with my chicken soup and it was great. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App
