Ok Fluff I think I can safely say I've read every page of your thread now! It was so funny (sorry) watching you go through those first few weeks of experimentation post-op! I'm going to be taking pretty much the opposite path in terms of nutrition and philosophy but I'm so thrilled to have you as a guide along the way! I "sparkleheart" you, my friend!

Yikes! Carbs are a hot debate.
Yes, I specifically asked Creekimp and Jess bc I know that they both have had different journeys to the same place -SUCCESS!
I am trying to figure out the best diet plan so I can get to the same place. I love all of the food suggestions Jess made, just not feeling full eating only protien (yes on PPI) and trying to figure out what to add in. For right now I think I will add veggies and plant based protien to increase my Fiber and nutrients with out adding too many carbs, YET.
I love carbs and will have to add more complex carbs later. That is why I asked Creekimp bc I know she uses carbs the right way to still lose weight.
Calm down everyone, we all find our own way 😁

When you can't admit a diet made up of 50% carbs is a "carb rich diet",,,...was logical discussion ever happening?
Dude, I get it....you like Keto, you're horrified by the number of carbs I eat, and you think I eat too much. LOL
    It's cool...to each, their own.
But to address your concerns......my carbs and calories are an approved part of a study being conducted by a major medical research hospital...and they seem to be working great. My doctor and nutritionist are delighted with my progress and compliance. And most importantly, I am, too.
I love that I'm off my blood pressure meds, I love that I'm off my diuretic, I love that my legs don't swell anymore, I love that my cholesterol is low. I love that my A1C blood sugar is normal. I love that I don't have any nutrient deficiencies. I love the energy I have!!! I love that I can mow my whole yard comfortably, without getting out of breath. I love that I sleep better. I love that I haven't had a cold or flu or illness in over a year. And I love my forever diet! I don't ever feel deprived or hungry. I feel like I can do this forever...and that's the first time that's ever happened with a diet in my life.
There are a lotta ways up this mountain. I wish you tremendous success no matter which path you choose:)

Yes! I would like a foot tattoo of a molting snake to commemorate my adventure. I have an inspiration photo from google that is somewhat loosely similar to what I would like the artist to design - particularly the intertwining and the white, lacy molted skin. But I'd like a much more colorful snake and obviously the size and shape of the two snakes would have to be fit to the top of my foot. I really prefer to let the artist take over as much as possible, I feel my pieces are truly unique and a sort of bond of trust between me and the artist. I know most people are way too a-n-a-l (sorry, trying to avoid filters haha) and want to control what it looks like which I totally understand, cause it's going to be on your body forever, after all! But anyway, yes, I definitely want a tattoo in honor of this huge life change.

Hey y’all. It’s been slightly over a year since I had the sleeve. I’m 5’6”; my highest weight was 266 (size 20 pant, 2x tops), surgery weight was 259, and my current weight is 183. I currently wear size 12 pants, a large in tops (sometimes a medium) . Although I still have some lbs to go, I’m am VERY grateful and thankful for the surgery. I had the surgery for prevention purposes, had no complications either. I changed to a plant based diet and have been very happy and healthy with it. I take a multi Vitamin, Calcium, B12, and Probiotics. I walk and do some home strength workouts.
Thats just a tid bit of my journey, I hope it inspires and encourages others. Enjoy my before and after!

Oh, pardon me. I didn't realize we were talking about energy expenditure; I assumed we were discussing energy consumption. It seems really strange to call a diet made up of over 50% carbs "low-carb" in an effort to include the person eating that diet in a category containing people who, by contrast, avoid grains, legumes, fruit, etc. But by all means, carry on!

    Hey ladies! Newbie here! 😊
Like many of you, I am in a six-month pre-op program. I’m only two months in, so my surgery - the sleeve - will most likely be in October 2018. So far I have met with my surgeon and had a session with a dietician.
My starting weight on 4/26/18 at my consultation with my surgeon was 398 pounds. My current weight today (5/27/18) is 406.4 pounds (also my highest weight).
I just wanted to take a minute to say hello and introduce myself. I look forward to supporting each other throughout our individual journeys! 😊

YYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!!! This thread! I'm thrilled and honored to be in the presence of you ladies. I honestly feel like it's a totally different experience when you have a BMI above 50 and sometimes there is so little to relate to when reading about smaller women's journeys, no matter how hard you try.
My highest known weight is 381 - I had stopped drinking soda and started trying to change my diet about two weeks before I saw that number so I'm assuming it was higher, 385+ at least. My BMI was 58, I believe. I weighed 367 when I first met with the surgeon and 342 on surgery day. No idea what I weigh right now but I'll know Friday
It's difficult to realize you need to lose 220+ pounds (the same weight as some women who have WLS!) in order to be a healthy weight, and particularly depressing when you look at statistics that say you'll likely only lose 70% of your excess weight.
Honestly, I like being "big and tall." I would really like to have a normal BMI for health reasons, but I don't expect or desire a "slim" silhouette. My secret wish is to play roller derby and I would love to have a solid, strong body with big skating thighs and hips I can bodycheck people with My only concern is my health, my fitness, and my mobility.

Well if you can believe Surgeon #1. I am nearly 200 pounds overweight, Thursday when I met with Valerie, my nurse-practioner, she asked what my goal weight, was. I played coy, I told her "work with your figures and see what you come up with" her answer,175-184. I laughed and said that was coincidence I had come up with 175 myself. After plotting and examined for myself, I am not too large on the upper story, the "girls" are a C-D cup but for a 320-330 person that is not large. What I am is an oversized Junior, if they ran to an upper range I am a 27 instead of a 26W so my dream size a 15 Junior, and I will make a good attempt to get there. Proudgrammy (kathy) says there is no try, you either do or don't do something. Seems a little strict but I won't argue with her, she may be more a success than I ever will be. So you have to lose a whole Bariatric woman, well I have have to lose at least a place kicker and that's still a human being. I would like anything less than 199 but let's see,how things work out. Sending a virtual hug because. a real one would hurt. 💜💞💚

150 grams is 600 calories a day and Creekimp eats fewer than 1200 calories. So her carbs are over 50% of her diet which makes her... decidedly not a low-carber.

It is definitely challenging having close to 200 or more pounds to lose.
Most of my adult life I hovered in the 270 range and gained and lost the same 20-30 pounds over and over again like many of us seemed to. I was able to lose small amounts of weight but never able to keep it off long term.
The last few years before my surgery I felt stuck in a stressful job and discovered I was hypothyroid and this added over 100 pounds to my body. I was utterly and completely miserable. My highest known weight was 389 pounds and my consult weight was 384 pounds. My surgical weight was 369 pounds.
Sometimes I do think about how things would be if I hadn’t let myself get so far down that road. Maybe I’d be close to goal if I would have had surgery at 270 vs 370 but this is defeatist thinking that is not helpful. I am really trying to focus on moving forward and not dwelling on the past.
I am halfway to goal and if it takes me two years to get there then so be it. Getting to goal would mean a loss of 194 pounds for me, and that’s an enormous accomplishment.

Hi all, joining the party. When I was 21 I found myself at 305 and it freaked me out, and I went on a severe diet. I dropped 112 pounds in a year, but after I met my husband and quit smoking I was back up to 305. And then marriage added another 72! My highest was 377 in 2011. From 2011-2017 I was able to get down to 315, but I kept bouncing back and forth from 335 to 315. When I decided to start the sleeve journey I was 333. On my surgery day, 4/27/18, I was 303, and nearly 4 weeks post op I am 278.
I question my choice constantly. I am discouraged by the 3 week stall, I miss food, I hate the nausea and the heartburn and all the pills. I am super tired. I know a lot of people regret their sleeve the first month. I just hope to get out of this funk soon.
    Here is my progress.

Frustr8, I hear you loud and clear. I've recently been "chatting" with quite a few guys on a dating website. It has taken me a long, long time to get to the point where I can just say what I want and wait for someone who is worthy of me (!!) to answer or to step up to the plate. A guy I had a lunch date with today emailed me this morning that he couldn't make it, "too much going on." Really? He's the one who picked the time. Next!!
Another guy wanted to come to my motel room (where I'm currently living, waiting for an apartment to become available) with some wine or beer, even after I told him I don't drink. I've made it clear that I'll meet someone for lunch, but I'm not inviting someone I've never met into my room! And so it goes--I won't give out my phone number (too many scammers out there) and I won't join Hangouts or whatever the latest online chat thing is.
I'll protect myself as much as necessary, and the right guy will understand that. This isn't rocket science: say you want to meet and show up. We can go from there . . . if you seem compatible.
Good luck to all on this journey. I bought new clothes for the first time since my surgery and I think I could have bought a size smaller. Woo hoo!

I started at 362 at my consult and lost 92 pounds before surgery. I’m down 10 pounds since then (2 weeks ago). I am 5 feet even. I agree with AshAsh, it has taken a long time for me to see a difference. And I worry that the honeymoon period will not be long enough for me to lose as much weight as I would like. The other piece for me has been psychological—there don’t seem to be many women my size or larger here (starting BMI was 70) and so I feel still like an outlier and there are fewer examples of people who have been successful at my size or larger. It would be great to support other women with higher weights.

I'm still avoiding that Jolly Giant and his vegetable factory, hopefully the next time he comes into my valley I can tell him "I just had surgery, and can only do light things" a 50 bushel container of vegetables is too big for me. Hurray, hurray, for, making it,back home.😜

depends on your goal - everything on that list will raise blood sugar and then raise insulin levels so they should be consumed in moderation with that in mind.
only you can decide what limit you want on carbs. 150 g 100g 50g (me) 20g
keep in mind the govt asked Americans to eat more carbs and obesity and type 2 diabetes have risen every year since to reach epidemic proportions today - thank you U.S. govt.
track all your food with an app and decided what number to stay under then adjust your food choices as needed.

I eat a metric fuque ton of carbs. Love them. They're a huge part of the mayo Clinic Diet...which has served me very well.
That said...there are two kinds of carbs. High glycemic simple carbs....processed white flour and sugar...I'm extremely careful with. Sugars, in general...I'm careful with.
In addition to being bad to give you insulin spikes and rebound hunger....the kinds of foods they're in...cakes, Cookies, baked goods, fried sweets, snack foods, processed foods....are typically full of tans fats..partially hydrogenated oils that raise your bad cholesterol, lower your good cholesterol and clog your blood pipes. Heart disease is the #1 killer for both men and women....so I'd really like to avoid this.
Low glycemic carbs are a huge part of my daily diet. Whole grains, oats, brown rice, Beans, lentils, chickpeas. Whole raw fruits. Low fat dairy. In addition to having a nice slow glycemic burn that doesn't spike your insulin like processed carbs.....low glycemic carbs are typically rich in fiber and/or PROTEIN:) Both are awesome for weight loss! Fiber is great for poo...and it's what the best gut microbiota eat. Getting some of your Protein from plant sources helps to reduce your exposure to the nasty fats that come with animal protein. So, to me, it's win-win.
The diets of the healthiest people on Earth who have the most longevity, least cancer and heart disease.....Mediterranean Diet and Japanese Diet are low in simple sugar and high in low glycemic carbs, vegetables, whole grains, fruit, nuts, seeds and fish. High in plant protein, low in animal protein.
So to answer your question more specifically....
Carbs are carbs...but some are better for a healthy diet than others.
Some I eat regularly, and some I eat very seldom in very small amounts.
Fries...I make my own out of potatoes in the oven with olive oil and rosemary, and leave the skins on:) pizza....I make my own with thin whole wheat crust, tons of veggies, fresh mozzarella, and very little meat. ice cream....nope, but I LOVE Yasso frozen greek yogurt bars Cookies, etc......almost never. Would be a special occasion food and would limit it to 75 calories worth. Couple bites of hubby's dessert on special occasion, microscopic piece of birthday cake, etc. bread? No white bread, but I do eat sourdough, pumpernickel, and the gross, "healthy" kind with all the seeds and grains...I LOVE it:) Toast it up and put some avocado on there with red pepper flakes, sunflower seeds and lowfat swiss. Yum! Pasta?......No white Pasta, but I do LOVE lentil/chickpea pasta, I prefer it. Potatoes? Yep. White and Sweet. Love me some potatoes! Love my diet potato salad, too. Beans? Yes. All of them. As often as possible. Fiber-licious! oatmeal, rice, quinoa, corn... all whole grains, so which ones do you avoid?,,,,, I eat sugar free oatmeal regularly, brown rice in moderation regularly, not into quinoa, corn I eat in once in a while in moderation as an ingredient. And I like popcorn sometimes, air popped. I'm a big fan of Chia seed pudding. I like flax. And all the nuts:) Love me some lentils in my veggie Soup.
  25. Thanks

If you're counting carbs, a carb is a carb. I wouldn't eat anything on your list. If you just had to have something, look on Pinterest for Keto bread, keto pizza, meatza. Find low carb marinara on Amazon as well as almond flour and xantham or guar gum for thickening, etc.
