When I went to my 3 week postop appointment and spoke to the psychologist, she was afraid I was being too much of a perfectionist with my diet. She said to take a 90/10 approach. Eat on plan at least 90% of the time. But allow yourself to indulge occasionally when it's really important to you and do it in a small way (i.e. small slice of birthday cake on your kid's birthday, ice cream cone on a hot day, etc). I think a few pieces of candy falls into that category especially if you really, really wanted it.

Post Op Exercise???
GrrlAnn replied to sleevingbeauty321's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told only walking until my 3 week check up. At the 3 week check up they said I was cleared for everything but core exercises (including my beloved Bootcamp) until 6 weeks. -
Lately, I have been feeling sooo on the fence about wls
GrrlAnn replied to pink pixel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This video really helped me with the decision. It's from a surgeon in Michigan. It goes into some of the myths about being able to lose the weight yourself vs. bariatric surgery. I hope it helps! -
Tomorrow is the Day!!!!!!! Help me

I think the preop diet was so much harder than postop. You'll do fine! Best of luck tomorrow!! -
Does anyone know if Mucinex is okay for liver shrinking diet?
GrrlAnn replied to lambypie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got a cold while I was doing my liver shrinking diet. They said it was fine to take cold medicine but to avoid anything with NSAIDs. I took Mucinex and I never stopped my allergy medicine (rhinocort and Zyrtec). But all doctors are different so you may get different guidance from your doctor. -
You need to call your doctor. Hopefully it's just sore from the coughing but you need to be sure. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

You can do it! I am three weeks postop and I assure you the preop diet is so much harder than the postop liquid stage. This stage is important for your surgery's success and your safety. Stay strong! Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

I had my 3 week check up this week and was told to wait until 6 weeks postop to start Bootcamp again because of the core exercises. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

Tracking food, nutritional content question
GrrlAnn replied to healthyliving23's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am early in my journey but I really like Baritastic. It's meant for bariatric patients so it focuses on things we need (e.g. highlighting protein and water intake). But the food logging process seems about the same on every app (Fitbit, MFP). Not sure you can get away from it. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App -
Stronger and healthier, but no weight loss? Sounds to me you added muscle mass and that's always a GREAT thing! ...you know...the muscle burns the fat. I probably bet you lost some inches too. Yes I definitely lost inches, my endurance and energy skyrocketed, and I felt so much better. But by not losing weight I was still morbidly obese which increases all sorts of risk factors including early death and makes it much harder to get life insurance and with two small kids, for me, that is unacceptable. So I was very confident going into surgery that it was the right choice for me. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

What flavor did you try? I went to my Vitamin Shoppe and they only had one flavor and I think it was raspberry something. I did not like it at all. It tasted like medicine almost. Really similar to what a 5-hour Energy tastes like. But yes, definitely expensive. Just curious what flavor you tried to see if I might can try or find another one. Thank you! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App The Blue Raspberry is the only one I don't like. But the other flavors are somewhat similar, except for the tea one. So if you really hated that one you probably won't love the others. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

Anyone anxious about new food?
GrrlAnn replied to melliecat's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am going to be moving from my Protein shake and Water diet to purees this week and I am both excited and nervous. I think I've become very comfortable with how simple my food choices are with such a tight restriction that opening the door to other things is kinda scary... Have you tried Isopure? It's expensive but it's very different than a shake. It's watery and fruity, super low calorie, zero carb, super high Protein. I love it! You can get it at GNC. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

Got my surgery date- now super nervous!
GrrlAnn replied to krissee624's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was my first surgery as well and now that I have had it, I feel like it is a gift from god. I fell asleep, a few hours later (which felt like minutes to me), I wake up and it's all done. Medical technology is amazing!! -
I agree with previous posters. I had to wait 6 months (no loss required) and I am very thankful I had that time to research the hell out of the surgery and prepare mentally. But most of all I used it as my last real effort to lose the weight without surgery. I busted my a$$ at the gym, I ate healthy food, gave up Diet Coke and alcohol (those were the last to go). I ended up getting a lot stronger and healthier which made surgery and recovery a lot safer and faster. But I didn't lose any weight at all... That more than anything proved to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that I needed the surgery. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

Are you getting better about your liquids? I think in the beginning some of the weightloss is mostly Water. You are probably losing fat and replenishing your water loss making it look like a net of zero. Also, I've never heard of anyone who stopped losing weight permanently at week 2. It'll probably fall off next week. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

Got my surgery date- now super nervous!
GrrlAnn replied to krissee624's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's hard work to get your fluids in and then make sure you are getting enough Protein. You truly have to focus to get it right. The day after surgery I could only drink half an ounce every few minutes. It took me an entire day to choke down half a Protein shake. Later when you are getting better you have to deal with being around real food but not eating. I have been on a protein shake and Water diet for two weeks now and it hasn't been too bad. I still get cravings but they are no where near as bad as they were preop. I just drink more protein and I am fine. I actually understand what "head hunger" is now. You will also be really tired and uncomfortable from the surgery. The first day or two you'll need help just getting out of bed to go to the bathroom. For me, the pain killers made it very manageable. So it's not climbing Mt. Everest bad, but it is certainly not the "easy way out" either. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App -

GrrlAnn replied to krissee624's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 2 weeks postop and I also got the last minute jitters. Don't let your nerves at the final hour undermine the weeks/months/years you've been preparing for this. If surgery wasn't a good option for you, you probably would have figured out it long ago. Best of luck!! It's hard work but it's worth it! Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App -

Reasonable caloric intake one-week post-op?

2-weeks pre-op liquid diet, when are you used to it?
GrrlAnn replied to CocoNina's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I will be 2 weeks postop tomorrow all liquids (Water and Protein shakes only). It does get a lot easier. I find that I "crave" a lot of food but it's very easy to say no... WAY easier than preop! I actually understand what "head hunger" is now. It's particularly easy if I've had enough protein. I also found that at about a week postop I could drink a much more reasonable amount of water and protein. For example, rather than just being able to drink a few drops of water I could drink a mouthful which made hitting the protein and water goals much easier. Protein Shakes & what kind/Brand
GrrlAnn replied to CantStopMeNow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know I am in minority since everyone seems to love the Premier - I can't stand them. I really like the Glucerna Rich chocolate which I can buy by the case at BJs. I also like the premade Isopure. All flavors are watery/fruity so it's a nice contrast. I get them at GNC but they are far more costly at $3/bottle. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App -
I just got sleeved on 1/20/17 so I am only a few days ahead. I agree with Rick's advice. Dehydration will land you in the hospital before anything else. The doctor told me that liquids won't make your incision leak. If you drink too much you'll throw up not tear anything on the inside. And you are right, the restriction you are feeling is partly from swelling. Every day I can fit more Water into my stomach - today was noticeably better. FWIW, my doctor said the priorities were: walking, water, Protein. They said it would be 2-3 weeks to hit 3 Protein shakes and 60+ oz of water a day. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App

Motivation or lack there of
GrrlAnn replied to dominyks_mom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had to find a workout routine that I really liked - as in liked enough to truly enjoy it, not just tolerate or get through. I also found going more often rather than less helped. For whatever reason it's easier for me to go 5-6 times a week rather than just 3 times. Sent from my XT1585 using the BariatricPal App -
