    Running Shoes

Don't be afraid! I went for the first time a few months ago and I was so glad I did. They wanted to see me walk. I asked them to watch me run. It was just inside the store - a few yards at most. It is totally worth it! Ask for recommendations from your running/gym friends. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Fixing Posture

I would also make a conscious effort to stand and sit with good posture - meaning put real thought into holding your shoulders back, back straight and head high as much as you can. Eventually it will be a habit. Also, sitting on an exercise ball instead of a chair can help. I sometimes swap my office chair for one when I want to work on core strength. 3. For me it was being declined for extra life insurance based solely on my BMI. I had been working out and eating right for a straight year and losing maybe 10 lbs! That threw me off the fence and into the surgery. Best decision ever! Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Going to the gym post-op

My doctor's office gave me this advice for people with no complications or other major health problems: 0-3 weeks walking only 3-6 weeks walking, cardio, running 6+ weeks anything including weight lifting Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. Thank you for posting this! I have been a slow loser too and struggle with it not going as quickly even though I am working SO hard at it. I hope to have a similar story when I hit 18 months. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Have I made it?????

My doctor's office said that hair loss is the most common in the first 6 months and usually levels off by 12 months. So, there may be some risk you could start losing but I think it's very low. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!! Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. That seems ridiculous. I was put on a presurgery low carb, low fat, less than 1200 calories. But that was for two weeks prior to surgery. I never could have done that for 3 months!! Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

    January Sleevers Check-In

I am about 60 lbs down since surgery. 5'8" 275 BMI 42ish > 220 BMI 33ish. I have been a slow loser. I lost 30 lbs in the first 2 months and only another 30 in the following 4 months. But since I started a bit lower I guess this is normal. It has been bothering me since I work out intensely 5 days a week and stick within my calorie, water and macro goals. But on the positive side, I am just about as small as I've been as an adult which is wonderful! Hoping I can get lower another 20 lbs lower over the next 6-12 months. 11. Many people do regain some weight 2+ years postop but unless you completely fall off the wagon, you'll probably never be your largest sizes again. If your wardrobe didn't sound so nice I'd recommend 14-6 but since it sounds high end, maybe sizes 14-10 just in case something goes sideways in the next 5-10 years. Favorite exercise

I joined my local Burn Bootcamp and I LOVE IT!!! I've been going 5 days a week every week for a year now. We NEVER do the same workout. You work your whole body - cardio, weights, etc and everything can be modified to for your fitness level. I also love that it's women only! Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I think it's interesting that your surgeon wants you to get to a size 10-12. I just had a conversation with my surgery team at my 6 month follow up where they told me that getting to my goal (shopping in regular stores size 12/14) may be unrealistic... Keep in mind I started at a size 20W, kill myself at the gym 5 days a week and stick to the eating plan religiously. I share this just to show you how far you've come and how different doctors have VERY different expectations of their patients. I say you are doing an amazing, stupendous, completely wonderful job!!! If I were you I'd keep going until my body felt like it's where it wants to be. Then I'd convince my surgeon to finish the plastics. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Pre-surgery Exercise

The exercise you do will depend on your overall health and physical abilities. If you have trouble walking, aerobics and running are probably not good options but you may be able to swim. If you are already active, you should push yourself to do something now strenuous (walking to running, lifting weights to CrossFit). Regardless, focus on being very consistent and continue to push yourself to do more. You want it to be a habit before surgery so you're more likely to be successful postop. Use this preop time to find something you love to do. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. I was in a very similar situation so I'll tell you my story. I had to go through a six month weight loss program prior to surgery. I started that program with my former employer. I was only at my current company about 2 months when I went out for surgery. I did not tell anyone in advance what I was doing. When I got my official surgery date (about 1-2 weeks in advance) I told my boss I had to go out on leave for a medical procedure for about 3 weeks. I did not say anything about what I was having done just that it was routine, I would be back to normal quickly and that I shouldn't need to take any other time off. I still haven't told anyone at work why I was out. However, my company's short term disability insurance needed to know what surgery I was having. I even tried not to tell them but they required it. They approved the disability no problem. Regarding FMLA, I am not sure you will qualify since you are so new to the company. I am pretty sure I needed to be employed there for a year to qualify. Finally, just because you could live without the surgery doesn't make it elective.... I like to think of it as preventative. Unless you are so small that the surgery is simply removing vanity weight, it's a necessary medical procedure just like any other. I hope this helps. Best of luck!! Heat sensitivity?

I haven't experienced any change with hot temperatures but was definitely cold during the cooler months. I was going to suggest to check your hydration but you said you are drinking enough water. Maybe it's a vitamin imbalance or something. I'd ask your surgery team next time you go in for an appointment. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sleeve vs RNY

This is not true. They remove the excess stomach and they remove the pyloric valve. It is not possible to reverse it. You can't recreate a pyloric valve... The sleeve also does not touch your intestines which RNY does. The sleevers can also get a revision into DS if it's ever needed. Only the band and balloon are fully reversible. 20. I have the same problem. I am only 6 months postop so I can't answer the long term question. What I have been doing is buying 1 black jacket, 2 pairs of pants and 2-3 tops every 2-3 sizes I drop. When I buy, I buy them 1 size too small. I find I can get away with bigger tops longer but even those get ridiculous after awhile. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Sleeve vs RNY

These were my primary reasons for choosing the sleeve as well. I wanted my pyloric valve to reduce the risk of food intolerances and dumping syndrome. I also did not want to have additional vitamin deficiency risk. Sent from my XT1585 using BariatricPal mobile app
