  1. Weight the cheese. Then google "how many grams of protein in x ounces of mozzarella cheese"
  2. Your protein sounds great. My goal is 80. I'm only 3 weeks post op and at about 650 calories a day. Have you been gaining muscle? And are you eating a lot of high fat foods? those might contribute to the weight gain

    Coffee 4 weeks post op?

Yes! I've been allowed to have decaf coffee the whole time. I was only allowed to add milk at my full liquid phase, and still sugar free.

    Return to work

I work in retail. I was out for 12 days, and going back wasn't too bad. I got tired fairly early on in the day, but other than that I didn't have many issues.
  6. You really shouldn't be worrying about calories from what I've been told. It's much more important to track your Protein, and make sure you're getting in enough. Chances are, you're taking in much fewer calories than before the surgery, so your weight loss will continue regardless. My doctor wants me at 80-100 grams of protein, and 64 oz of fluids (including shakes) and I'm currently in my puréed stage. I definitely understand the curiosity though. I just count my calories as I track my protein. I'm usually at about 700-800 and I'm 2.5 weeks post op.

    4 days Post OP

I definitely feel this. I thought I wanted food during my liquid phase really often, but then I drank a shake and it went away. Even now in my puréed stage I think I'm super hungry and then it just goes away. My problem right now is trying to eat slowly and not swallow air. That suuuuucks.

    Hunger Pains?

I thought it had something to do with the gas pains, but I had it too! It got better on puréed foods
  9. That's amazing!!!! Seriously, my insurance covered 80/20, so it was still great. 100$ is like a miracle. I would definitely be happy with either surgery as well. Good luck!
  10. I did yogurt pretty often during my liquid phase. Just stir it a lot and eat it slow. I wanted food really badly during that first phase, but when I tried to eat cream soups I just got too full and it wasn't worth it for the lack of protein. It gets better! I promise.
  11. @@nandy have you looked in to anywhere else? I've seen people have success with the sleeve and the gastric bypass!
  12. @@nandy, I had the DS. My starting weight was around 270, with a BMI of 41. I went in thinking I was going to pick the sleeve, but the DS had such better long term results that the surgeon suggested it since I'm only 20. Definitely take the surgeons advice seriously. Good luck!

    I'm down 130 lbs!

    Yay! So excited for you!

    Drinking Water

I couldn't drink cold water for a few days after surgery. Try room temp, or hot tea to hydrate you.

    Coffee?

I had to be off caffeine pre-op, but the post-op caffeine was left up to me once I could get enough liquids in!
  16. @@nandy, exactly! I've been dieting all my life, and nothing ever worked. I struggled with eating disorders (both binging and purging) and that was the only way I ever lost weight. It's so nice to not have food be the center of my universe anymore. That's what the surgeries are. Tools. What surgery are you having? I may have missed that in the forum.

    Should I be upset?

When I was still on liquids, I always ordered a decaf coffee, and used my protein shake as creamer. It helped a lot to have something in my hands while people ate. Now that I'm in the puréed stage, we only go places where I can get chicken salad, eggs or refried beans

    Sleeve or DS

The waking up part is something a lot of people worry about. At that point, it's just trusting the doctors to do their job well. While age had a lot to do with my circumstances, I think the long term is relevant for everyone. I did it for my future kids, and for myself as well. I'm sure you'll make the right decision for yourself and your family. You'll be in my thoughts!
  19. "You're not big enough to do that!" "You look fine, you don't need that." And the ever constant "what can you eat?" "How much can you eat?" My life doesn't revolve around food anymore people!

    Pain after Surgery please help

Walk as much as possible. It sounds counterproductive but it really helps with gas pain. I also kept a hard pillow against my stomach as often as possible. I didn't take my pain meds during the day because I didn't want to be out of it, so the pillow and walking really helped.

    Sleeve or DS

I had the DS. My starting BMI was 42, and was 40 at surgery date. Everything went fine! I've heard that the rny is a tougher recovery because of all of the food restrictions. It also changes a lot more of your plumbing (they build you a fake stomach). I opted for the DS because I'm so young and the long term success rate is SO MUCH higher than the sleeve. My surgery went great and they sent me home on my second day. I'm almost three weeks out with no problems. I would strongly suggest having a super deep discussion with your surgeon, and trusting his/her instinct. I went in with the intention of having a sleeve (least "drastic") and ended up having the DS (most "drastic".) My suggestion is definitely the DS over the sleeve, but that's 100% between you and your surgeon.
  22. This is exactly what happened to me. I had no co-morbidities and if I lost weight, I would fall below the 40 bmi. It's okay though! Once they weigh you on your first visit (for insurance) that's the weight that counts. I was only able to lose 10 pounds before my surgery, but it didn't disqualify me at all. The waiting was hard, but the payoff was worth it!
  23. I'm in the puréed stage, and I don't have any problems eating things like scrambled egg and super blended chicken salad. I have found that I can't get enough protein in this way because of the restriction, so I still drink two shakes a day.
  24. I didn't get in to the show until after my surgery, but I can't stop watching haha. I find it both extremely frustrating and very inspiring, depending on the episode haha

    Sex

My doctor said two weeks. We waited a little under that, but still had to be careful with my incisions.
