  1. I am 2.5 years out from gastric bypass. I had lost 100 lbs but have gained about 15 back. In November my blood sugar started dropping out of nowhere. I have seen my both my gastric doctor and my pcp and they both tell me to cut carbs and eat every two hours. Those are both ok but I have found that if I eat some carbs along with Protein I have many less episodes which is great except I'm scared I'm going to gain. Anyone with experience or advice on this? I have an apt with a endocrinologist that specializes in bariatric patients but it is not until November.

  2. I am gonna share this here because I have nobody else that could understand.
I realize now I have always looked shelter from food. Lack of self esteem, self love. food was always my best friend as sad as it sounds.
So I drowned my loneliness, pain, sadness, and anger in food. Thinking this is the least I deserve.
I didnt realize how much I was hurting myself until I turned 24 and realized I was 380 pounds.
I finally searched for help and got sleeved june first after hard work to get a down payment for a loan.
My mum being in the states (Im in costa Rica) I felt really lonely.
NOW 13 days post op the depression is terrible, there is no food to comfort me and I am hating and regretting everything right now.
I just wish to know I am not alone in this feeling and that eventually it shall pass.

I am so sorry to read this. I understand your feelings so well. I was there, I mourned the loss of food. Weight loss surgery forces you to deal with the issues that you were using food to deal with. I suggest therapy or a support group. You are not alone and the emotional toll is a hard one. Hang in there and try to make new healthy habits while you are being forced to change anyway.

  3. I had an ulcer I didn't know about and I was drinking coffee every morning with Premier Protein for sweetener and Creamer and tea in the afternoon. The caffeine caused the ulcer to rupture. So I switched to Decaf. Now if I ever drink real coffee my arms get all funny and I feel like my heart is racing.

I should mention I spent 4 days in the hospital and missed more than 2 weeks of work for the ruptured ulcer. It was on a seam and leaked into my system.

  4. i wouldn't go calling the authorities over 3lbs. i crap three pounds.
unless you somehow managed to overeat 10,500 calories over your BMR last week alone... (hint: you didn't)... it's just Water weight and your body still adjusting. remember, it's common after reaching your lowest weight (usually about 1.5 years after surgery) to gain about 5% back before settling on THAT new weight as your long term set point.
in other words - keep up the not drinking, follow the 80% principle, and try to relax and practice acceptance.

Thanks! I will do just that. I just needed a little perspective I guess.

  5. Had my bypass done in dec 16. I have done awesome! I quit everything I was supposed to. I take my Vitamins and drink my Protein. 130 is my ideal weight and I had stayed there for several months. I had an ulcer and didn't know it so I spent a week in the hospital in Feb. I left the hospital at 127. Took me March and April to get back to 130 (I wasn't trying to gain I was just ok with it). I have struggled a bit with alcohol so I cut it out completely. And gain 3 lbs in a week!!! I'm sad, what am I going to do now that I'm really healthy, no ulcer, no alcohol, I gain??!!! I know that foods gave snuck back in and my brain knows what I need to do but why does it have to be so damn hard??!?

  6. I’ve been hospitalized twice with ulcers since my May 2017 bypass. One was about 12 days after surgery and i was in hospital for 4 nights. Second time was about 5-6 weeks ago and i was in overnight. No h pylori, no NAISDs, no smoking. Just ulcers at the connection sites (anastomoses). I was on carafate the first time and this time Protonix twice a day for another month, then once a day forever I guess. I just had lots of blood in stool both times as my sign. No pain. My heart would race and I’d feel very faint when i stood up.

Glad you are home and recovering!

Interesting, my heart would race when I stood up too I had no idea that was a sign. No blood though. I have learned so much. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Careful drinking Gatorade it has sugar. The shoulder pain is the gas they use to raise your organs out of the way to do your surgery. Mine hurt so bad, I remember it clearly. Walking is the only thing that helped it go away. My husband would massage my back and shoulders too. It would help for a minute then it came right back.

  8. I don't tolerate any kind of cake or muffin very well. It just feels weird going down and the sugar makes me sick. A very small bite or two will remind me I really don't want it I just think I do. It does get easier. The only thing I really crave anymore that I can't have is soda. I am a year out and I really want a soda so I don't dare take a single sip.

  9. I had my bypass on December 11- kept fluids down fine- but once I started soft foods I almost always vomited my food. Endoscopy revealed an ulcer. I’ve been on carafate and omeprazole 2x a day. I can keep saying me food down- but still vomit every 1-2 days. How did you know your ulcer perforated??? Pain?? My blood work has alarm been so off- my pcp is very worried.

And my bloodwork has been great so it was very unexpected. Good thing you know so you can take care of it and let it heal properly.

Yes it was excruciating pain so bad we called 911 and I took an ambulance to the hospital. My bypass was Dec 2016 and I had no idea I had an ulcer. Is your carafate a pill or liquid form?
