Thanks so much! You're very welcome. That's why I put up the pic with my hair in case someone had a similar texture to mine.

I'm half white and black too. Hair just like that, if I went natural. Lol. I can't stand to comb it out all the time, thus I relax. But I suspect during the "hair loss phase" I probably shouldn't. Lol. Hoping I won't lose too much if any anyway. Great job on the weight loss. You look great!

  2. I 'm only telling my family and one truly supportive friend. When Ive discussed this with friends before I was discouraged by the negative feedback. Another friend of mine who had WLS and has had amazing results told me that people act really strange. The most negative comments come from friends who are also big and have chosen not to have surgery because they are afraid of it or they don't want to change their lifestyle. Even when I was strict on my diet and was eating clean and no alcohol I had friends who made remarks like oh call me when you can have fun again. I realized that people don't want you to change from the role you play in their lives. If you are the fun one and always available when they want to go out and have fun, they are afraid that will change. I have no problem socializing with people without drinking and I can still have fun. I think it makes people uncomfortable when I'm not drinking and eating bad food and they are because of their own issues. Your true friends will be supportive. For some it just might take a while to realize that you are still you.

You nailed it. It's all for how they will fare. Smh ????????‍♀️ "your true friends will be supportive" Amen!

  3. I bought his book recommended by another bp user. I've read the first two chapters and it really confirmed to me this is the way I want to go post op (trying to do it pre op too). I'll still have some lean chicken and shrimp on occasion, but I do love the idea of a pound of veggies a day. Great way to heal the body naturally.

You've got to watch Forks over Knives on Netflix if you haven't already. All the science behind a mostly plant based diet is just awesome.

  4. I hope you find your answers soon, I'm no doctor and I just don't and can't fathom having what your body needs is a cause for cancer to come back. 80% or more of cancer is usually diet related, like processed foods and tons of sugar (which it thrives on). Congrats on beating the cancer! And good for you to take charge of your health with the sleeve. I really do hope you find your answers!

  5. A couple of questions here.

I need a Multivitamin. I currently take juice Plus supplements and not sure if I need the multi after all. But besides that, does anyone take Alive! and have found their vitamin/mineral levels just fine? I'm quite leery about over the counter Vitamins, like, do they even work?

Second, I'm working on changing diet habits now, but four days in to it, it's a mean struggle. I feel like it's easier for me to just go cold turkey (current diet then start pre-op liquid) when the time comes. Anyone ever do that? If so, do you regret not changing earlier, etc? I do know it's probably better to change now (of which I will continue to try to do) but at the same time, it's freaking hard!

  6. My sister had a bypass done some years ago. Lost all the weight and gained it all back and then some. She's the biggest she's ever been these days, BUT she also has a lot of mental issues and addictions that she never really got help for that led her weight gain. For this reason alone, I haven't told most of my family because they'll automatically associate my decision with hers. We are not even close to being alike in any way, shape, or form.

I told my husband, he supports me. He wants me to be happier about my health/weight and tells me all the time to do what I feel like I need to do, no matter the costs, etc. I also suspect that he wants me to be the "hot" again. LOL My youngest brother had concerns, "why don't you just eat better?" I quickly told him to educate himself on bariatric surgery before he slams my decision. Two days later he texts me and says he will be here for me for whatever decision I make. And my sister in law to whom I'm very close to says she's a supporter. I have told some friends and they're on board (but I don't need nor care if they approve or not). I think overall, the only person I need approval from is my husband. That's all that matters to me.

  7. I felt that way when I first began my journey and like keeping track of everything would be a pain. But I found once you get into the habit it's not so bad. Once in the morning I sit down and decide what I'm going to eat and log it into the app I use to keep me on track. It has made eating less stressful for me and made it easier to stay on track. I wish you success no matter which route you take ultimately it is about what works best for you and your success and that's so subjective. :)

  8. Thanks for your replies. I have a feeling I may be throwing it out of my diet for good. Since I posted this question, I asked the nutritionist. She says I could have it IF I were to let it sit for about 15 mins first (I guess let the fizzies go down?) but I like the fizzy, it's a great alternative to soda and sooo much healthier.

Guess I'll enjoy what I can until my pre-op diet.

  9. If you have acid reflux now,get the Bypass.I was sleeved in 2011.Then acid reflux struck.Nothing helped.I had revision to bypass on Nov 22,2016.The sleeve makes reflux worse.

In the past my reflux was all because of the foods I was eating. Since starting my diet (cutting out carby, sugary, greasy foods) I have not had reflux once. He requires you to be on antacids anyways so he said I should be all clear

I was wondering about this. I get reflux from specific foods, I.e. Spicy, fatty, acidic and I'm getting the sleeve. I figured I wouldn't have a problem so much if I just stay away from them.

  10. I was never one to weigh daily but a lot of my friends were. They drove themselves nutty with numbers. I refused to do that. I'm one to forget to weigh and my scale is collecting dust somewhere. I know the biggest change will come with how we feel, our clothes fit or don't fit, etc. So, that's what I'll go by with the occasional doctor visits that'll tell me what the number is. Good for you btw...I thnk you'll find a better sense of peace without the numbers driving you loco. :)

  11. My starting weight was 294. I am now 116. I NEVER thought I would be a 39 year old mom that can wear a size 0. I didn't seek that out as a goal, it just happened. My doctor gave me the goal of 135-145. I hit the top end of the goal in 9 months. It took about 3 months to lose the other 10 pounds. I started training for my first half marathon in July of last year and got down to 121 then. Even though I stayed the same weight, during that time I went from a size 6 to a size 2. I lost more weight after stopping birth control.

With all that said....how you look after is based on so many different factors. I lost 178 pounds, but have minimal excess skin. I know others that have lost 80 pounds and have LOTS of excess skin. I give credit to my workout regime in part. You cannot just do cardio, you must do weight training.

The hair loss. I experienced that starting the 3rd month through about the 9th month. It was minimal though. I have PCOS and experienced much worse before the surgery. I have been committed to getting my Protein and taking my Vitamins.

I agree with the others. Looking a certain way is still healthier than being obese or morbidly obese in my case.

Thank you for sharing yours! I'm going to be 39 soon and I lift weights pretty regularly. I haven't had my surgery yet either. I am half white and half black (I do think genetics play a big part to how we look, skin, etc) and I'm extra hopeful now!!! Yay!

With that said, my health is more important than what I will look like. We can always use makeup, get cosmetic surgery, etc.

I like what a previous poster said, being obese will kill you, looks won't. So true.

  12. Low carb and extremely low carb or no carb isn't meant for long term diets. Ever wonder why you're so tired or can't remember anything? Your brain NEEDS complex carbs to function well too. It functions off of 80% of whatever carbs you put in to your system. Do you workout? You need complex carbs, doesn't matter if it's cardio or weights.

Overall, I'd talk with a professional if I were you simply because you can get all sorts of info here and all of them will contradict each other. And every body is different. What works for one does not mean it'll work for you. But we can all have a general sense of what's good and what we should be doing.
