    I need your input, please

I've learned that as long as you have however many months your insurance requires documented CONSECUTIVELY by a physician, etc. it will count. I went to my doc from March to December of 2016. But my doc only documented 3 of the months. My insurance requires 3 consecutive months documented. So I'm having to do it all over again, but with the dietician with my surgeon 's office. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I'm not sure about the forms as my surgeon's office is taking care of it all. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Long story short I had a house fire on New Year's Day and haven't had a chance to hop on my scale since. I hoping I'll feel better if I can confirm I've continued to lose weight over the last couple weeks. Meantime, I don't feel much like congratulating myself. I feel like I'm letting bad habits, i.e. snacking, back in, even if my calorie count is still at 1000. It seems like added stress triggers the bad food habits? Do you have a hobby or a goal (non food/weight) that you can turn your attention to? Exercise is a great stress reliever. Again, You've done a phenomenal job thus far, you can always pick right back up and keep going. I'm rooting for ya! Intermittent Fasting

I'm interested as I'm a fan of IF. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Do it YOUR Way!

Awesome. I love IF. I did it while I was weight training and plan to make it my lifestyle after surgery as well. You can lose consistently on IF. The best part is working out during your fasting time. There's so much medical science out there that helps explain why this works and as a testament to it, it does. Although I only dropped 4 lbs, I lost 3 inches all around my body. (I was also not really watching everything I ate at the time, just the window) But alas, I still have a lot of fat on me, so I need to reset my metabolism with the sleeve. Currently, I'm doing my weights. I'll add the IF later. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. Your body should be hungry to fuel up. Is it head hunger? Additional carbs will tend to make you feel hungrier too. Like all who have said before me, stick to the Protein first. Hope this helps! And congrats on your loss! That's awesome. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    A New Me

Has anyone decided to weight train a few months before surgery? If so, what has been your results, skin wise? I know a lot of people tend to do it after surgery to help with the skin, and I commend everyone for doing so, but I wonder if there's a bigger benefit beforehand???? A New Me

January 24th. Was supposed to meet up with a friend to workout together. But secretly I wanted to go alone. I just get it done without all the talking. Anyway, she decided not to go. I almost didn't, but I did! And boy I'm glad, as usual. A bit shaky now, did heavy weights tonight. Now it's time to wind down. ????‍♀️ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    sodas

I'd say whenever you can whether having surgery or not. I personally think they're all terrible, diet and regular. Lots of chemicals and sugars our bodies just don't need. But I can sympathize with addictions and know it's got to be hard to give up. I went cold turkey when I found out a flame retardant chemical was found in many of them. Eew. Dizzy Spells When Standing

That's scary. Please get checked. I've never had an issue with blood pressure, but I haven't had the surgery yet either. I do have vertigo and it can happen just like you described too. Probably not related, but still the same stuff. Anyway, hope all will be well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    A New Me

I think I'm going to just dedicate this one thread to everything I'm going through, after all, it is my journey, right? I hope it helps others as well as it's helping me. I have my first nutritional appointment tomorrow morning. I'm excited for it. Do I sit there and act dumb or do I share my expertise with the dietician? I don't want to come off as a know it all, cause really, I don't, but I do know a lot! A little of my childhood, I grew up very active. My dad would lug the whole family, 5 kids and my mom, out most every weekend to go do nature trails, etc in the U.P., MI. "Say ya to da UP, eh!?" (For you Michigan folk, LOL). We had to eat healthy in the house. Rarely fried foods, and especially no junk food in the house. My mom was always secretly buying candy bars, chips, junk when my dad was at work or if we went out to run errands. Gee, wonder where I picked up that awful habit??? But overall, I was a healthy happy kid. My dad used to run fitness programs and I would always go with him. I loved working out with him and his clients. Imagine me decked out in my hot pink leotard and hot pink spandex shorts. Lol. Hey, it was the 80's!!! Even now, I like working out. Granted, I don't have all the time I want to exercise, but when I do, I enjoy the challenge. I'd see other women lifting heavy so I wanted to beat that and lift heavier. I usually do. But I still need help. My body isn't the same. I can feel how hard it is to lose 5 pounds now than my 25 year old body. Now, I hurt. My knees have been aching these last two days (weather related) but with the extra weight, ugh. Feels awful. I've got hip bursitis (all those years of the elliptical). Painful inflammation in the joint. Any age, any weight can get it, but imagine 120 more weight then needed having to move with it. Ouch. So here I am. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Cookies!

An alternative: Ricotta cheese mixed with a little bit of cocoa or cacao powder and some (whatever sweetener you use). I haven't had this in years (since my south beach diet) but it's amazing and takes care of the sweet tooth. Good Protein too. 28g in one cup. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Consultation

All depends on the insurance and surgeon really. I just had my first appt with the surgeon. He just asked a bunch of questions, asked me why I want the surgery, etc. I worked up my nerves for nothing really. Lol. I have nutritional appointments (4) and one psych evaluation. As for the pre-op, I'm sure that part will come along when the insurance goes through and I have a surgery date. Until then, I go to the nutritionist and I'm going to do the best I can to change my bad habits to good now. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Gallbladder

I've heard many have it done at the same time...at least, I think I've heard that. ??? I wouldn't see why not but having your gallbladder out shouldn't excuse you from wls. I'm sure someone who's had that happen will comment soon. I've had mine out for 15 years now, so sorry I can't help much. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  18. Lot of this. Carb cycling throws your body into a guessing game and can help break up plateaus. Do your weights on higher carb days and cardio on lower carb days. If you can't break it up at least save cardio for the end. My rule of thumb when lifting is that regardless of how many sets you do (3x10, 4x8, etc) you do not want to be able to get all of your reps on the final set. People think if you can't get all your sets you're lifting too much. The idea is to keep at that weight until you can do all those reps. Once you don't feel challenged then go up in the weights (only 5-10# depending on the lift you're doing). ************************************************* I never am able to get all my reps in--gotta burn baby. When to count calories

I was reading this and hoping my doctor wouldn't be concerned with calories because I absolutely hate counting them. If I have to, I will, but then I looked up to the side and saw that you have Dr Stegemann!!!! I too have him. Had my first consult last week. What a lovely man! I like him even more now...

    Denial about my weight

@@Walter.Sobchak, I was just like your wife. I managed to lose about 40 lbs back when I ended up being 40 lbs overweight and that was before marriage and three kids and all kinds of life thrown in. During the last 9 years (of marriage) I've slowly gained 120 lbs, but it wasn't without trying to lose it all on my own numerous times and I was opposed to weight loss surgery too. Not so much if it were a matter of life/death, but I guess you can say, I was ignorant (uninformed) of all the facts. It's only been the last two years that I stumbled on sleeve surgery and started to make inquiries and educate myself on it. Even then, I went to the doctor and she and I both decided for me to do this on my own, once again. 3 months later, i'm 4lbs down (but I did lose 3 inches all around--thanks to weights), but going this rate, my chances of developing co-morbidities were climbing. She then placed me on a medical prescription for weight loss. Did about 10 lbs and then it stopped working. Finally, she says, "I'm referring you to doctor Stegemann (bariatric surgery)". I tried to do it on my own-but these days my body isn't the same as it was before marriage/kids and 20 years ago. So here I am. It's really my last resort to reset my metabolism and my life. Congratulations on six years too! Happy Anniversary! I speak many more blessings for you and that includes another precious child.

That is so awesome Walter.Sobchak! To do this together....many blessings to you both for taking charge of your health. Please stay posted, I'd love to hear of your journey as a couple. So awesome.
  22. Thanks for your update. I was reading all the responses and was hoping you shared one. Keep hanging in there hon!! Think of your non scale victories and how you feel. Don't let numbers define you. Keep marching on, you'll do well. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Already sleeved question

I haven't heard anyone tell me it's the "easy way out" but I've seen some faces and hesistant replies. I always say this "before you give your opinion, do your homework and educate yourself about it." Usually either they shut up or actually do the homework. It's like politics, I won't talk to someone about politics unless they've educated themselves about it and actually exercise their right to vote. So sleeve and politics, educate yourself. LOL AND...if they truly aren't ignorant about WLS anymore, than most should be supportive, given how hard it truly is/will be.
  25. I've been eating terrible since yesterday. I know I have my first NUT appt this next wed, but I didn't really think I was going to do a food funeral. It's like everything I know I won't be able or shouldn't eat, I'm eating. Not cool. Got to get a handle on myself.

I know the feeling! Sometimes it's like your mind/body is deliberately sabotaging you before you even get started! Maybe it might help to make a list of things that are really worth it, so you can narrow down the types of food you are eating.
