2 Days Out - feeling pretty awful

I hate zophran. It doesn't work for me and has horrible side effects. Ask you dr for phenegran It works so much better. And I'm almost four weeks out. My side is still sore, but the pain lessens every week. That first week was horrible. The second week was bad after sitting for a while. Third week was a little better. Yesterday I had no pain, but it was back today. Those muscles have to heal. They cut through then, inserted a stapler, and had to stitch them back up. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

Heat? Fat? Pain? Day 4-5 post op

I'm almost four weeks out and I still have pain at the large incision site. They cut through those muscles and had to stitch them up so you don't get a hernia. That has been the hardest part of my recovery. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

So sorry for all of you not tolerating food yet. Bariatric Advantage has some Protein Soups that are good. I ordered these protein shots I'm getting tomorrow. In less than two ounces you get 20 grams of protein. I'll update after I get them. I'm hoping it works since volume is my problem. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

Heat? Fat? Pain? Day 4-5 post op

Yes - lots of us are sensitive to temperature. Usually it is to cold things. Is that the only time you have pain? and with the only thing? Sorry you went through that hospital drama, but glad they kept you on IV's while they sorted it out.

@@horse.rider I hear you. I can't get protein in for anything. I finally called my nutritionist today and said, can I eat a quest protein bar (I'm 3 1/2 weeks out). She was like - no because they have too many calories for the protein. So I told her that they are 200 calories for 20g of protein (the same as the shake guidelines). She said that was way too many calories. Then I said that I was worried because I was lucky to get in 600 calories a day (if I had a 200 calorie shake). She said - oh no, that's great. How do you get to 60g of protein a day on 600 calories unless all you do is shakes. She wants me to do 2 shakes a day. So that would leave 200 calories for the rest of my meals? That's crazy, right? I'm exhausted and weak and I know it's because I don't have any nutrition right now. And it's been 5 weeks like this. Anyway - I hate slimeys too. I only had one week of pureed foods because I stayed on clear liquids the first week after surgery. I guess my dr. is more open to other foods. I hope you find something you can tolerate soon.

    December bypass buddies

Hi everyone. My surgery was 12/27. I'm just now getting past the pain in my side. It's still sore, but at least the stabbing pain is gone. So weird how different diets are. I've been on soft foods starting two weeks out. It's lots of foods. Just no dense Proteins like kids e chicken breast or steak, no raw fruits or veggies, no nuts, no rice, Pasta or bread. I'm ok with foods, but I've also over eaten a few times and been sick. I can eat only about two ounces over thirty minutes. Fish has been my friend. eggs don't agree with me, but it's not horrible. I still can't eat an entire scrambled egg. Weight loss is great. I'm happy with that. But the best thing is to be rid of the pain. That will wear you out. Is there a difference between bypass and sleeve? My surgeon said bypass patients lose the most first year, but sleeve catches up in year two. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

1 Day Post Op -- Hard Time

Zophran sucks. I make them give me phenegren it makes me sleepy but knocks out the nausea. Hope you are feeling better now. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

  13. Has anybody used the New whey Protein 3.8 ounces ready made? It has 42 g of protein per little bottle. I ordered some, but wanted to see if anyone else used it. I figure I can drink half the bottle in two small sips and have my morning Protein Drink and the other half for my afternoon. I'm just struggling so much with protein. My other shakes make me gag or take me an entire hour to drink. And at this point with only being able to eat 2 ounces at a time, I can not get my protein through food. Maybe when I'm able to eat more at a time. Any other ideas?

    Vitamin patches?

I just ordered the Iron ones. They say they are non-constipating. That is just one of my issues with the Iron. If this could be the solution, I will be happy.

    Vitamin patches?

Thanks everyone! I might try them. At least I won't forget them. One of my biggest ones I forget is Iron. I don't take it when I take the rest of them because you can't take Iron and Calcium together or the Iron won't absorb. And that's a pain. Anyway - any other input is much appreciated.
  17. @@My Bariatric Life that is so rough. That is quite a lot of issues. Have you done research on fecal transplants for those conditions? It sounds so gross, but there are currently studies going on for all sorts of auto-immune diseases (like Celiac), and they have great results. I'm not conspiracy-minded, but it doesn't get a lot of press because of big pharma. Until they can put it in a capsule, there won't be a lot of press or doctors who use it. I had C-Diff for about six weeks. It was miserable. I did so much research to figure out how to not only get rid of it, but to keep it from recurring. In fact, one of the reasons I opted for the surgery were some studies indicating that the surgery helps to reset and "fix" the gut bacteria. I really hope that you get some relief soon. It is miserable.

    Cranberry Sauce

I'm just impressed. I couldn't tolerate anything but Water and Isopure for a solid week. My instructions allowed me clear broth. Are there actual onions? You would have to strain it. But I'm not sure. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

    Weak...no energy [emoji30]

I've felt the same way. I've been struggling to get my Protein in, so I just decided to eat nothing but protein right now. It has helped a lot. I hope you get to feeling better soon. I keep telling myself that every day is a little better.
  21. It's ketones. Means you are burning fat. It doesn't go away while you are in fat burning mode. My dr. Said sugar free hard candy was better than gum. Gum can cause gas. Anyway, lots of Water will help clear them too. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App
  22. So do you have any insurance? I ask bc if you have a hiatal hernia, insurance covers that and it drops the cash price for the surgery. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

    Weight loss

Yeah, normal. I came home from the hospital weighing 14 pounds more than when I went in. I stayed on Clear liquids for a week because of pain and feeling horrible. I lost no weight until that 2nd week. I'm three weeks out and down 26 pounds. It fell off at some point. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

    GERD and Gastric Sleeve

My surgeon told me it depended on the type of reflux. I had bile in my stomach from a weak valve between my stomach and intestines. Losing weight wasn't going to fix it and the sleeve would make it worse. I had to do the rny . I was disappointed, but I had enough time to get used to it. If my reflux was just my stomach acid and my belly pushing it up, we could have done the sleeve, but not with bile in my stomach. They'll have to do the egd to tell what type of reflux you have. 25. So, I read some people need added bile salts to help digest some food. They sell them on Amazon. You could be experiencing a food intolerance. For that you would need an elimination diet. Finally, your gut bacteria could be out of balance. The best they offer now are Probiotics. They are working on this now. Some strides are being made with fecal transplants, but still not approved.
