Been away for too long! Everything is going great, hit some milestones. One I hit today - I'm down over 66 lbs in two and a half months. When I did Weight Watchers about 9 years ago, it took me about 9 or 10 months to lose the same amount - and then I put it all back on and then some No chance of that happening now though!
Also some non-scale victories. The big one - I can wear my wedding ring again! I had to stop wearing it for a long time, it just got too tight! Started wearing it again a few days ago, feels good.
Also cool - i have about 8 suits I rotate through for work. Before surgery, I was down to three I could wear, the rest were too small. And the three were getting a little tight too. Now, I wear all of them. The original three are way too big and I had to get them tailored. The other five are starting to get loose, going to need tailoring soon. That's a welcome expense, especially with what I'm saving on food.
Tonight I saw a recipe on Facebook I had to try, and I made a GRILLED cheese SANDWICH with cauliflower toast for bread, and turkey bacon. The toast wasn't as crunchy as I would have like, but not bad at all! I could actually only eat half, saving the rest for tomorrow. I'm attaching a pic for your enjoyment. Hope everyone is well!

That's awesome, good luck with the scrambled eggs! I make them similar to the way Gordon Ramsey makes scrambled eggs (but without the creme freche, if that's how you spell it). I put a little splash of skim milk and an ounce of shredded cheese, put the pan between low and medium, wait about a minute, pour in the eggs, shortly after start scrambling, then take them OFF the heat and scramble for a minute, then back on the heat for a bit, then off, and that's it. As soon as they're solid I'm done. Eggs are creamy, fluffy, delicious. I used to like that a little al dente and with the crispy edges but this is SO much better and easier to eat too. Here's the video that inspired me -
Also, lucky you with the mashed potatoes! I was told I wasn't allowed to eat them because of the starch

Well the liquid diet was no fun, but actually in retrospect (and while I was doing it) not as bad as I thought it would be. I was actually fine during the day, it was the evenings that were tough. Dropping 25 lbs in 2 weeks was pretty nice too!
I can't speak to the other surgeries, but I did have an appendectomy and umbilical hernia repair a year before I got sleeved and the recovery was tougher for that and more painful, for what it's worth.
Can't speak for your doctor, but I wasn't intubated when I woke up, they had an oxygen mask on but they do that for everyone.
Good luck, don't let your nerves talk you out of saving your life!

It's so strange how all the different doctors have different rules. I did a 2 week liquid diet pre-op, but I've heard of others who only had to 3 days. Or 2 weeks but could have a small "real" dinner. And apparently my doctor is a rarity in allowing soft foods starting the day after surgery.
Now I have two scrambled eggs with cheese every morning, totally fills me up.
i keep trying to think of new things to keep from getting bored. Yesterday my whole family was eating turkey meatballs for dinner and I wanted to join in, so I microwaved three of them (3 oz), ground them up in the food processor, heated up 1.5 oz of meat sauce, mixed it all together .5 oz of shredded cheese, heated it up a little more in the microwave, and it was DELICIOUS!

Finished the last piece of that Ricotta bake today, going to make more tomorrow, it's my new lunch every day now, holy cow it's so good.
Tried some mahi mahi tonight for the first time ever, also first time I ever cooked fish. Not sure if I did it wrong but it was pretty bland, just bleh. Finished 4 oz. though, lots of Protein and it was something new to try. I have another piece in the freezer, maybe I'll cook it up and then blend it in the food processor and add some mayo, make a little seafood salad.
Everything is going great, although I get little blood spots every day on my shirt from the large incision. The PA at my checkup said not to worry, but at some point it should stop, right? Anyone else noticing this 10 days after surgery?
Also I noticed on my little signature ticker thing that my BMI is below 40, so I guess that's a milestone, woohoo!

This was awesome. I'm hoping for a February date so this was great to read. I died laughing out loud when you mentioned the poinsettia and having preferred to keep sleeping. Haha
    Updates please!!!
    Best wishes

    Trader Joe's creamy Tomato soup
Whipped goat cheese with smoked salmon and a sprig of tarragon or dill
An electric blanket I use at my computer. I'm always cold.
New tennis shoes. Now mine are all too wide, and I can't work out in them.
A portable, battery-powered food scale. I got a small one off Amazon for about $12

The best way for me to describe my Foodie life post op is quality versus quantity. If I am going to have 1/2 cup of food, it's going to be the best I can possibly make or find.

On Saturday, I had a few friends over for "local" night. I bought local wines, fresh cheeses, and local charcuterie. I made a blackberry tart with berries I picked myself this summer.
I ate, I drank, I had a great time. The food was amazing, and I didn't go over 900 calories.
Surgery made me realize how much I ate was just "filler". It was stuff I ate because it was there and it was OK. Now, I eat only the best.

I was a definately foodie before and am still a foodie now. My tastes have simply changed and for the better.
The first 4 to 6 months I was pretty limited in what I would tolerate but I am over two years post op now. Honestly I can eat whatever I want but i am super particular about what I eat.
I love date night and enjoy trying new things. The good news is, I always have a lot of leftovers and hubby and I share things as well.
Prior to surgery I would have a cocktail when going out, now I absolutely LOVE decent wine so I choose that as my drink with dinner which I ONLY do when i go out. The rest of the time, I follow the not drinking with my meal rule to a tee.
Nothing passes these lips that doesnt taste good or makes me feel good. I figure, I can only eat so much so it damn well better be worth it. I also do restrict carbs and honestly i feel bad when I eat them so I choose to avoid them as much as possible.
I also love to cook and cook differently than I once did. Instead of all the Pasta (I am Italian), I enjoy cooking delicious Proteins and veggie dishes.
I still love food, its just different now.

The reality is that after WLS you still have to be obsessed with food, except in a different way. The emphasis is getting in your Protein and Fluid. So it requires constant planning to figure out how to make that Protein goal each and every day. It can be challenging.
Check out the following blogs: "The World According to Eggface" and "Bariatric Foodie". These are two women who have risen up to the challenge of life after WLS and still like to cook, just in a Bariatric friendly way.
Also BariatricEating.com has some really wonderful recipes that look just as good as any pre-WLS recipes.
As far as eating out, well it's a mixed bag. You can't eat that much (at 8 weeks I can eat almost 2 oz of meat and I'm done) so you take a lot of food home if you order a regular meal. Recently at a Mexican restaurant I ordered tortilla Soup (w/o tortilla strips) and shared guacamole (no chips) with my friend. I ate 1/3rd of the Soup and a few tablespoons of guac. You just have to plan ahead by looking at the menu and figuring out what has the least fat and sugar (to avoid dumping if you have Gastric Bypass).
I do not regret this surgery in the least.

I was a HUGE foodie (no pun intended!) pre-op, and I think the sleeved life lends itself to being a foodie, honestly. For me, I'm eating what I want (minus tons of carbs, but I hardly miss all of that) but just in a vastly reduced volume, which doesn't change my enjoyment of food. My surgical program is all about Protein, fats and eating satisfying food; before, when I would do Weight Watchers or whatever the diet du jour was, I'd have to cut out fats and basically anything with taste or staying power...then I'd fail because my diet was so boring and Spartan.< /p>
I think you'll find that you can still enjoy the things you enjoy now, but it won't be the drive for volume that it used to be...in a way that makes us REAL foodies, since it's all about the taste now.
The alcohol is a different topic and one that brings about many different opinions. My team goes at this one as a moderation vs a removal from your life. Of course, if it's a problem for you, that's a whole other thing, but I was cleared for alcohol consumption when I was cleared to a full diet. I have a little wine or a few sips of beer, but I don't enjoy either as much as I used to and I do have to count them as carbs.

Good luck, and I think it's great that you're looking at yourself and your food lifestyle this critically
