    Why did you choose bypass?

I'm only 2.5 weeks post-op. I chose bypass for a lot of reasons mentioned above. It has so much solid, long term data studies backing it up whereas the sleeve is more recent, and I only wanted to undergo surgery once (hopefully!), not get the sleeve and risk it not going well and wanting a revision. I was borderline diabetic as well. My sugars were normal and they took me off Metformin before I left the hospital, and my blood pressure is now super low even though I am taking 1/4 the dose of inderal I was before surgery. This still kind of blows my mind. It's early and I have a long way to go and I'm still scared, but I wanted to go with the procedure most likely to prevent me from ending up diabetic ( it's in my family) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Let's talk food

My first food in that stage was a scrambled egg. Low fat Greek yogurt went well too and still does (I'm early in the "soft diet" phase-- my RNY was 1/16). Puréed cauliflower it just a tiny bit after Protein. Really super duper mashed canned salmon with a bit of low fat mayo. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    TV Rant

Ha-- I'm so glad I'm not alone! I started madly wanted Taco Bell when I saw commercials for it and I normally HATE Taco Bell. My husband was amused. And, yes, Netflix was a good way to go. I would say books, but the people in my books keep having feasts and then I get mad at them, too :-) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pain Meds?

I am 6 days out (but had a full three nights in the hospital due to nausea). In the hospital it was a mix of roxycet and Tylenol. The worst pain was indeed the early gas pain. I was sent home with Percocet. I mostly take it at bedtime and try to stick to Tylenol during the day. On some days there is enough pain that I take a second Percocet in the afternoon. (I am someone who has low pain tolerance although perhaps not the very lowest) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Heat? Fat? Pain? Day 4-5 post op

Thanks, that's helpful. One small one in the hospital but none since. Taking miralax Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Day 3

I am simply not weighing myself until a week out because I don't want to get too obsessive about it--- but I feel bloated, like my stomach is huge but my face is thinning Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Heat? Fat? Pain? Day 4-5 post op

Interesting. I also get pain when bending (ah, the wonder of incisions!). The gas pain is overall declining. No previous galllstone issues (I know that can happen but also thought it happens later, after big weight loss-- I'm not weighing myself daily but nothing crazy is happening based on my clothes). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App (I lay down and felt better-- it is possible I just need rest, for all of the internal and external muscles!) 8. Hi, So, my RNY surgery was Monday and I finally got home yesterday! (I had severe post op nausea and dry heaves so they kept me until they were sure I could stay hydrated without an IV). Right now, I am being told to focus on liquids above all else. Jello, G2, and popsicles (and water) are all fine. But when I try chicken broth I sometimes get pain on my left side. Sharp, weird pain. Could it be the heat? The fat? (I made and froze homemade chicken broth; I skimmed the fat but didn't manage to get it all) I'll try Protein shakes soon too although the smell bugs me so far. Just curious: was anyone else sensitive to temperature post op? The very good PA in the hospital did not seem surprised when I only wanted cold things Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Post Op Food Woes

I'm day 4 and definitely not able to handle a shake yet , though I have tried (i had a long hospital stay due to severe nausea). In my case the nurse wants me to focus on hydration, not Protein, for now, but of course, every doctor and patient varies ... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Surgery tomorrow

Thanks! Yup, I took several before pictures. A good reminder because I never see the twenty pounds I've lost since June (admittedly not that dramatic in my frame, but, still) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. My gastric bypass surgery is tomorrow. Despite doing a lot of research, being in therapy, and having a supportive family, I'm tremendously nervous. This is normal, I'm sure, particularly since I have never had surgery of any kind before, but still, I woke up early today and couldn't get back to sleep. Too scared. 13. Just wanted to mention that CPAPs really do get better-- I can't sleep without mine either. Ditto finding a mask that really works. I am hoping that surgery will reverse my sleep apnea because it makes traveling a pain, but after a few months I really did get used to the machine (and Treating the apnea helped my migraines) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pre op liquid diet

Deb, I am with you! I'm on Day 5 too and while I'm not as out of my mind as on the first day, I have no energy at all and a headache. Trying to stay strong. We can do this! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
