    Hair Loss?

Hello all! I was just reading posts in a Facebook group I am a part of, and one lady posted about losing her hair. It had tons of comments from people saying they all lost hair, too. Is this something to expect? My surgery is scheduled for December 23 and I already have very thin hair, so I'm kind of worried.
  3. What all were you consuming 3 days after surgery? Today my hunger hit me like a force! Still on liquids though. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    3 Days Post Op

I was (still am - PO day 5) mostly Water and maybe about 1 oz of sugar-free Jell-O per day. I tried chicken broth but it was very unappealing. I sucked the salt off of a few pretzels - my body was craving electrolytes. I cried on day 3 from hunger. Day 4 was Christmas, the family made cinnamon rolls for breakfast and I cried. SO FREAKING HUNGRY. I was mad and weak from having no calories in 10+ days, ya know? I am still angry because why the EFF am I hungry????? That was the allure of this procedure: to not be so GD hungry! Christmas dinner was easier than breakfast, but still difficult. For me, the feeling of "full" is totally different than before the WLS. It's more of a slight pain or that feeling you get just before you're about to burp. I'd recommend trying to discover what your new feeling of fullness is. I've not vomited at all, so I think I've done well with not over-consuming. Tonight, I had just the liquid from vegetable soup. I'd have a spoonful, put it down, and wait at least one minute to try for another. I'd say I had maybe 10 spoonfuls before feeling full. As for measuring water, I bought a bottle with the oz/mL on the side - just fill in the AM and try to hork down as much as I can without causing myself discomfort. At the end of the day, I know what I've been able to drink. We can do it, hayleyf3706! I am so sorry that you're hungry. I am extremely hungry, too. It must mean that we're special, right?? LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling this way! We got this! Requirements before surgery

@@kaypitre5 From what I understand, your surgeion has requirements and your insurance has requirements. The surgeon's office should look for you and find out what you need to do, adding it to your checklist. That's what mine did. The 90 day supervised diet for me was three phone calls with a nutritionist (one a month) and a 1200 calorie diet. Don't stress too much, just ask them as many questions as you need!
  13. @@pleezeSleeve They told me it would take about 15 days, but it only took about ten. Call and check on it in a few days! Bug them!

    Anxiety

Honestly, even though I'm only 25, I've already gone through a handful of surgeries in my life. Not fun! I will tell you that EVERY time I have surgery, I start to think to myself, "What if I don't wake up? What if something goes wrong?" I think that's a perfectly normal fear to have. When I expressed this fear about my surgery tomorrow, my dear husband reminded me of this: These are trained professionals. They are there to make sure we get through surgery safely. That is literally their job, and they've done it countless times. They KNOW what they are doing. Hopefully remembering that helps you. Post again when it's almost your date and I'll keep you in my prayers!
  19. @@pleezeSleeve Thank you! It was NOT easy! Especially considering how much happened in all that time! Car wreck, broken arm, surgery to repair that, loss of a family member, my wedding, my honeymoon.... Goodness! But it was totally worth it! (*correction, took 4 months)
  20. I was required by my surgeon (not insurance) to lose 50lbs. This Tuesday I weighed and am down 51! That's in three months.

  23. Well, running and exercise are great stress relievers. I HATE running. Like completely and utterly hate it. Every single step I am thinking... "when will this be over? is it over yet?" But it is undeniable that running regularly keeps me in a better mood the rest of the time and takes my mind off the stress in my life. So I put up with the hour of misery every other day in order to make myself happier the rest of the time. I also find it incredibly helpful and constructive to have a goal or goals that I am working towards and can focus on. When other parts of my life are out of my control and getting me down, having a goal I can work toward and feel like I am making progress on something I have control over is incredibly reassuring. Great tips!!!! I will have to remember these!

    Newbie

Good morning! And welcome to BariatricPal! I'm fairly new here myself, but it's a great place to find answers and support. My first consultation was GREAT and provided me with a wealth of information. The surgeon you meet with should tell you what other appointments you need, if you need to start a diet, etc. Mine was so helpful in planning all of this. Let us know what they say when you go!
