    Strawberries allowed? 8 weeks post-op

I’m 14 months out and still can’t eat them. They cause a lot of acid. Never did in the past. Early on you don’t want the seeds to irritate the pouch. But after you fully heal there’s no reason you can’t have them. Except for the sugar content. And if like me you get acid after eating them.

    North New Jersey Peeps!

If your in northern NJ why not go to NYC. I was at NYU. If you have a complication you don’t want to be in a ‘center’ you want to be in a multidisciplinary full hospital.
  3. We all get sick of protein shakes. Have you tried putting 1/2 a vanilla premiere in a strong cup of coffee, better than coffee mate and 15g of protein. It’s my breakfast every morning. Good to start day with protein.
  4. You’ll do fine. I was 315, 295 on surgery day. Sleeved 2:23/17. I’m down to 207. Get up right away after surgery and start walking and peeing. I did get dehydrated at about day 10 post. Dizzy cramps. I got an IV which made symptoms so much better. Be Careful to listen to your body. So close to Onederland!! Size 16. Energy up, rode a bike for first time in 25 years! Got in and out of a kayak! Keep to your plan and track your macros. I use Baritastic. 100 G protein, 30 g carbs and 40 g fat per day. I’ve been pretty consistent but not perfect. I’m just now STarting training for a 5 k on 4/1/18. Mind you I avoided even climbing stairs let alone run !! Never would have imagined it a year ago only dreamed it. Start visualizing the life you want because you are making it a reality now. Best of luck! Literally people don’t recognize me.

    Hair loss

Same story. Started losing at 3 months, now at 7 months slowing down. I got a layered bob to help look fuller and stopped blow drying, dying and ponytail s. I started doing a trim once a month to try to stop split ends because it’s dry as well. Looking a little better, hair dresser said new hair growth visible will take several months to grow in.
  6. Best bet in any restaurant is shrimp cocktail. Pure protein. Appetizers cost less and right portion size. Grilled octopus, mussels. Etc.. always protein . At Italian restaurant chicken dishes rule.

    Dumping?

Could I be dumping from just a few bites of ice cream? I’m 7months post. Down 100 lbs! Have not had this issue before. Please advise!!!
  8. A lot of this depends on your tolerance. I'm six months out and struggle with my water intake. After I've eaten any solid food for the day I have to wait several hours to consume water otherwise I feel overly full. To accommodate this I drink a lot of liquids in the morning. I still have my protein shake in the morning and about 40 ounces of water before lunchtime. Drink water again around 4 PM. That's pretty much it.

    Feeling sad after surgery...

Where do you live? There are probably a dozen of us right in your neighborhood who would help you out.
  10. My husband says I eat like a mouse. Lunch at work usually consists of couple ounces of cheese. Four crackers. Some type of veggie stick with some hummus. And a small piece of fruit or some grapes. Late afternoon when I start feeling hungry again I'll be sure to drink more water. Then usually 1 ounce of some type of nuts. That holds me till dinner time seven-ish or later. Some type of lean meat 3 to 4 ounces and whatever veg I cook for the family. I skip out on the starch. I won't lie now and again I have a spoonful of rice or a spoonful of mashed potato after I've had my meat and veg just to give me a little satisfaction. By that time not much more will fit anyway so I'm very limited to those couple of bites. I've been pretty consistent about tracking my food. Not perfect. I use Baritastic app. I've learned about my body that I need to be in the 75 to 85 g of protein range under 50 g of carbohydrates and 40 g of fat to continue to lose. And 1100 to 1200 cal per day. If I fall below those levels I stall. Loss has slowed a little bit to 1 1/2 to 2 pounds per week which is still pretty good. The minute I have something sweet and sugary I just want more and more seems to fit. I try to avoid it altogether. But now and again I have a little nibbles again just to satisfy that craving. I still have about 50 pounds to go to get to a normal BMI. Trust me I was the biggest binge over eater ever. It's nothing short of Americal this fantastic tool I've been given. I'm going to use it to the fullest advantage. Good luck to everyone. Everyone's journey is different and everybody's body is different the key for me has been paying extra close attention to my bodily responses to my food intake. Something I completely avoided and never paid attention to most of my life.
  11. I'm 6 months out and still don't eat solids until 12 noon or later. I have coffee with protein shake (vanilla) and it is it's like creamer. I have 40 or more oz of water. A shake and coffee . Once I eat solid food , water is tough to get in. Seems to be working I'm down 98 lbs since surgery in feb 2017. I am able to get my protein and calories in from lunch on. Some times o miss breakfast food and just have it for dinner.
  12. You just got to get through the first month to 6 weeks. Hang in there. It's so worth it. I am 98 lbs down as of today!! Surgery was 2/23/17. I rode a bike, kayak, canoe for first time since I'm a kid this summer. Think about what you will do for the first time in .... to keep you motivated. The time flies as does the weight if you stay focused on being healthy and always remember why you did this surgery to begin with. Hang in there!

I need some help. Diet and pain

You will consume so little like 1/4 to 1/2 cup you really can have any soup blended you like. I had a butternut squash soup . It was Devine. I had some soupy mashed potatoes with plain yogurt. Was like sour cream but more protein. It too was Devine. Just get used to something a little thicker than a shake. Eating this way is not so much for nutrition but healing, I couldn't tolerate purée until beginning of third week. Every one is different. It is always good to get ideas here. I did two full weeks post op on clear liquid. Then third week shakes and soups. I heated my chocolate protein shake added some milk to have a hot cocoa. Good luck.

    I'm freaking out

The minute I eat sugar I want more and at 6 months Out i can tolerate it. I agree with other posters. Count your macros. Most days I get 85 G protein and under 40 g carbs and 40 g fat. It has worked well for me. Hw: 315 Sw: 298 Cw: 217 Gw: 175 ish Vsg: 2/23/17 Doing some light exercise. Pilates a few times per week. But I am more energetic and active. I use an app called Baritastic. Definitely consider using it.
  15. Pretty normal. As pain passes you will straighten out. You need a couple weeks.
