  1. So I decided to share my before and 4 month post pic and stats. I was on the lower BMI side but was a personal decision for me because of yo-yo weight my whole life and although on surgery day I was down Lbs I still know myself to not keep weight off so stick to my plan. PLEASE no judgmental comments we each do what's best for us! I paid out of pocket and went to MX. Definitely not easy from day 1 but honestly much easier experience then I was expecting after reading so many posts. I'm 5'5 and highest weight 230 Starting weight 2 week pre op 203 GSV surgery day 195 (left photo) 4 months post 155 (still have a BMI and fat% considered overweight on charts) My goal weight is 145 or 140

    4 month post update

@jjcorley I probably started with walking at about 6-8 weeks post then I started going to Zumba classes around Feb. probably not working out as much as I should/like but for last 2 months I have been doing cardio type workouts about 4 days/week and then a class with weights. My goal now is to workout at least 3 cardio days and 3 weight days. I feel like the weight has been slow to come off at a steady 1 lb a week for a while. I'm now about 10 lbs from my goal. I definitely struggle with getting my water in and usually don't do have to work on that too! Good luck and I look forward to seeing your progress!!

    Low BMI sleevers... results?

I was sleeved 12/16 in Mexico with BMI of 32. Gained/lost hundreds of pounds all my life and hope this tool will help me finally stay at my goal weight when I get there! Had a very easy recovery from day one (not to say I haven't thrown up several times in process). I've lost 40 lbs since sleeve date (plus 8 lbs preop diet). Goal is 10-15 more pounds but slowing down now. Easter was the irate time I did have a slice of cake and felt so guilty. My husband is only one that knows I had the surgery so it's hard when eat with friends because eat very little and can't drink at the same time. Here is my day of surgery pic and my current pic.

    4 month post update

Thanks@YeaMe. I completely understand the losing and gaining the same 200 lbs so after going thru this process I'm using my "tool" to keep the weight off once and for all.

    Booze!!

About 10 weeks post I had a glass of wine then 2 weeks later I went on an all inclusive vacation and yes I had a drink daily but I can say if I hadn't had the surgery I would have drank all day / everyday at the pool and several more into the night so I guess although I wish I hadn't had any, I find having had one or 2 drinks per day a victory in comparison to pre surgery and I haven't had any alcohol since back home and I used to have wine pretty much daily!
  6. Wow you are getting in a lot for less then a month post. I'm 2 1/2 months post and not sure I've had even one day yet that was 600 calories. I am 300-500 calories for majority of days but now when I go to an event I may get up to 800 calories max on that day only Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. So I'm 6 weeks post and really really dislike Protein shakes. Always have. I've found 2 favorite go-to that I have daily to get in at least 30 grams protein and actually love them. First is sugar free pistachio pudding made with fairlife milk and GENEPRO. It mixes very well since mix cold (I did not like Protein powder mixed in SF Jello personally) and makes 4 servings which I estimate I get 30-35 grams from one per day. Find your favorite flavor! Second is fage plain Greek yogurt with a scoop of Click Brand Mocha protein powder which gives me about 35 grams. I either have as a meal or a snack depending on the day. Super Bowl food/drink

I was a week post for Christmas Eve and have a party we attend annually and I did as anonmom mentioned...I walked around with a solo cup people thought was vodka and soda when it was Water with a splash of juice and I never ate and no one even noticed! Eat what you can if it's there and just have that same plate for a long time. No one will even realize. Trust me I'm one that loves my cocktails and I haven't entertained even a sip yet. 9. You look GREAT! I couldn't even see a scar. I had my surgery 12/16/16 and feel like progress is SO slow; down just 20 in over 6 weeks from surgery day. Plus my scars are very visible but I know that too will take time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Trouble with friends

Live your life and enjoy it. If she is like this after a month just think what she'll be like after your loose even more weight. Start making new friends and deal with her as just a co-worker. Some people can't hide their jealousy whether she is thin and was always comforted by you being her big friend or she is overweight and now you won't be. No one needs friends like that! Insurance won't pay

I went to Mexico! Here is my only thought/suggestion as you will research and find a handful top rated Tijuana surgeons and price range can be $3000-$6500. My PCP says you want to know things like what staples are being used (say in that $3,000 surgery). Some have recovery houses for a day or 2, some operate in hospitals, some in their own surgery center then go to hotels. I did a lot of research and was happy with my choice on the higher end of the range as that worked for me. I also see those on lower price range very happy too! I'm 6 weeks post, have had zero issues (not even pain day of surgery and beyond) and I'm down 20 lbs from Sleeve day, 28 total with 2 week pre-op. My starting BMI was just under 32. 16. @@erica_ozzy73 my BMI was 31.5-32. Here was told 31.5 and day of surgery in Mexico was told 32 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

What to bring to the hospital?

I overpacked from reading posts and all I actually needed was pretty much what Diana mentioned above! Plus just some face wipes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Locked and Loaded

Wow that's a lot of yogurt! I literally have a drawer in the fridge and one cabinet of food because I can't eat too much and have had to throw away food like yogurt that expires Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    I'm having 2nd thoughts!

I am self pay too, had mine in Mexico. Had 2nd thoughts literally until the day I was flying out because I am on lower end of BMI and had lost 8 lbs in 2 week pre-op so thought I could just do it myself but then I reminded myself that I've lost and gained the same 70-80 lbs many times over so I went for it. I had a super easy recovery (100x better then I was expecting) and now I'm 5 weeks post and down a total of 27 lbs and so far no regrets. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  20. I was self pay to buy went to Mexico. So far been a breeze and 5 weeks out today! Down 8 lbs pre-op liquid (that I probably didn't need to do since I'm lower BMI but guess 8 lbs is worth it) and then 17 lbs from 12/16 surgery date. Haven't felt any restriction pain yet and on soft foods for about another week or so. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

How fast can you return to work ?

I had Sleeve on 12/16 because I was off work 12/15-1/2 so ideal time (although I could have applied for state disability (even using a doctor in Tijuana they complete paperwork for you which I was surprised to hear). I'm in sales so work from home 2 days and out in field 3 and the 2 weeks we're totally enough for me. I was totally fine to go back to work. I also have had a super easy experience from day of surgery so maybe that contributed. I agree that energy level can be the bigger factor vs any discomfort. Protein

Premier Protein is way to sweet for me. I also use GENEPRO and there has been much debate about the 30 grams. I'm sure by now if it weren't correct there would be consumer complaints to verify and adjust the claim. Do the research as I've seen the 15 gram claim before and don't think that is accurate. I like it cause I can mix it in everything even if just add 1/2 scoop to things like yogurt that already has 15 grams of protein to get to 30. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. Are u eating 4 oz of chicken meat in the soup? Puréeing it? At a month out I can barely eat 2 oz of tuna with a lil Protein powder. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  24. Wow had no idea anyone did outpatient Sleeve. Thought one night was the norm/min. I stayed one night and just had the pain Med in my IV. Other then that I took one pain Med first night just because I was afraid I'd wake up in pain and that was all. Had no issues with Water, popsicles and broth and now one month out I've tolerated all foods in stages allowed. I also thought to date that it's been to easy and kept thinking maybe the Dr. Only took out 50% of my stomach LOL. Guess so far it's a good thing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    1 month post op

I'm one month out and also down just 15 lbs although my doctor said that is good as many patients retain fluids after however I read all the posts of people losing like 30+ lbs in first month. Also of course the heavier individuals are the more they'll likely lose in beginning. Perhaps 15 lbs is good for our starting weight? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
