  1. I had everything done through Kaiser. I met their requirements for surgery (I think it's 50 bmi, I could be wrong) so my insurance covered my surgery (Kaiser insurance through work) I was very fortunate that my contribution was only $500 for the entire thing. Single Incision VSG?

So this was my only surgery I've ever had, so I have nothing to compare it to, but from my experience I liked that I had multiple tiny incisions vs one large one. The pain from the incisions were VERY minimal, I did have one incision (the larger one where they pulled my stomach out) sting during the healing process for about 4 days which was uncomfortable, but I can't imagine how a larger scar would feel during the healing process. Time off

I had my surgery Wednesday and was working again on Friday. HOWEVER, I code for a living (which is just sitting at a computer all day) and I can do it from anywhere, so I did it from home Friday and Monday, then went into the office Tuesday on. Because I was sedentary (I did get up and take walks) it didn't effect me too much. It all depends on the kind of job you have. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Feeling Pretty Low

You're only human ms queen! We wouldn't need the surgery if we were perfect! I would recommend writing down some goals you want to accomplish along with a grocery list for your next visit to the store. Maybe google some tasty vsg recipes to inspire your motivation! Don't be too hard on yourself, everyone's journey is different and we all have bumps along the way. It's time to dust yourself off and try again. What I recommend is trying some sugar free candy (have you tried the ice breakers sours mints? They're pretty tasty and sugar free! I recommend giving those a try if you're looking for something sour to have). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. I was on a heavy period during my surgery, so they did give me a pad and some cotton panties, it made me feel a little more secure down under as well haha. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Anyone else this sore!

The first week is always the worst, I promise you each day is a LOT better than the last! Wednesday I'll be 3 weeks post op. I'm still struggling to a sore tummy, but that's about it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. Hi all, another random question from me. Tomorrow I am two weeks post op (yay) and I was wondering if a very sore stomach is normal? It feels like I've done 100 sit-ups lol. So it's definitely not the right side regular pain. Haven't had this type of pain before in my recovery yet, just wondering if this is part of the recovery stage or if I messed up. The reason I ask is because yesterday I was eating apple sauce and definitely over ate some, I'm scared I may injured my stomach. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    I think I need help

It's called body dysmorphia, talking to a psychiatrist may help ease that. Seeking praise from others will only put a bandaid on the issue. We can tell you, you look great (because girl you're killing it) but if you don't see it, you need someone to help you understand what you're feeling and how to work through it. Kiaser so cal

That's awesome! You're so close to the finish line! It'll happen before you know it! I guess some Kaiser's are different because mine didn't require a support group visit, although it was heavily advertised as an option after surgery. And thank you! The first week is rough, but I feel exponentially better every day. Today is the first day I was able to get up on my own and it's only a week after surgery. I thought I was going to be down and out for weeks because how major of a surgery it is, but I'm walking fine and had very little to no pain by the 6th day, today is my 8th day recovery and my tummy is only slightly sore, so yay! Kiaser so cal

Hopefully I can help, I went to Kaiser Panorama City, had my surgery in West LA. Met with my PCP, said I want to look into getting the surgery, she then referred me to the bariatric program: May 10th Was contact by the guy who schedules the classes in mid may to book my overview. Initial Options program overview: June 6th (This is where I signed up for my classes) Options class began: July 11th Mid point appt: Aug 17, I got all my labs, EKG and other test done this day as well, I was there forever! Because my class was on mondays, due to the Labor Day holiday it was 13 weeks (not 12) because we didn't have class. I also missed aclass (so I had to make up one) so I didn't officially end class till Oct 10th (my official class end was scheduled to end Oct 3). Final Appt with Bariatric Dr: Oct 17 (this is so I could get REFERRED to the surgeon) Surgeon Appt: Oct 31 First Surgery schedule: Nov 4th but due to a scheduling mishap (ughhhh) it was rescheduled to Nov 30th I am officially a week post op ! Note: I didn't have to see a psych or do a sleep test. Hope that helps shed a little light! It sounds long but really flew by! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Kiaser so cal

I had it done at Kaiser West LA! The process is fairly on par with Kaiser's pace. I finished my classes Oct. 10th, had my last drs appt (before the surgeon) on Oct 17th, my surgeon appt was Oct 31st and my original surgery date was scheduled Nov 4th, due to a long story (nothing at fault on my end) I was rescheduled to Nov 30th and I am a week post op ! Hope that kinda helps! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pre op importance?

I wasnt required to go on any special diet, just liquids only the day before. I have mixed feelings on it, Im a week post op today and feeling much better, but the liquids are a little maddening. Because I didn't have to diet prepare myself I am having serious withdrawal now from Soda and junk food (just cravings, no headaches or nausea) man I miss it. But I don't know if I regret not doing liquid, because I want to cheat now but can't, I don't know if I would have been as strong with out the sleeve (seriously, why are we here?) so I kinda liked that I got to have my food funerals, thanksgiving with my family and just overall no pressure before surgery, because I'll have the rest of my life (i.e. Now) to behave. Comforts?

I have a giant shark whose my cuddle buddy (his name is BLÅHAJ from Ikea lol) the hydrocodone they gave me from the hospital and gas-x strips. Oh and sugar free popsicles! Water is hard to get down and Jello makes me gag, but man those popsicles were such spirit lifters (got them day 2 of recovery). I also have a really fluffy blanket. I just recommend any soft cuddly things and stuff to ease the pain. (Popsicles, don't forget the popsicles lol). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Tell me this is a joke.... so angry!

I had a mildly similar disappointment. I was scheduled for surgery Nov 4th, went the whole 9 yards, did everything I was suppose to do, work was aware, family was prepared, it was happening. Then MORNING OF my surgery I get a call from my surgeon telling me that my surgery was canceled due to a scheduling error and they'll try to fit me in sooner. I was finally scheduled for Nov. 30th, I was absolutely devastated, CURRENTLY STILL REALLY ANNOYED. I am about one week into recovery, but if it was done on Nov. 4th I'd be a month post op and over this part of the recovery stage. Rawr! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
