    What do we need!?

I'm going to add that I think gas x was a god send for me, there was an insane amount of pressure in my stomach and nothing brought me relief till I got desperate and picked some up. It was the day after surgery and it was super necessary for me. I will second the sugar free popsicles, they helped make me feel human again lol

    First NSV!

The point where I knew I wanted surgery last year was when I went to the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Hollywood, CA and I couldn't ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. It was so embarrassing, I went with some girls from work and because my restraint didn't make that third click, they quickly ushered us off the ride to a tester seat, no one knew what was going on (except me) and I finally had to YELL at the team member just to let them ride without me. Because literally no one knew what was going on and I just kept saying "just let them ride" and they were like "no no let's just check really quick" and I just said "please just let them go" and they were like "let's just check to make sure " and I finally just blew up and said "CAN YOU PLEASE JUST LET THEM GO!" Everyone was so understanding about it but it definitely put a damper on the rest of the trip (it made it incredibly awkward for all of us). I always feared going back, out of heartbreak and just being traumatized by the whole experience. A couple weeks ago I learned a few friends wanted to go check it out and out of fear I almost bailed, but today my sister and I went to check if I could (I've lost 45lbs since that incident, so ya never know) and BOOM, fit with NO ISSUES! A team member overheard my excitement (I was crying) and he gave me a front of the line pass so I didn't have to wait in line! It was one of the most magical moments of my life, makes all the pain and hardships worth it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Not going to apologize for being vain

Girl I feel you, the amount of selfies on my phone have gone up tremendously. I have never felt or considered my self beautiful until very recently, it's a nice feeling and a bit of a confidence booster. Continue to do your thing girl, let's all continue to slay!
  4. You're a beautiful queen who doesn't have to take **** from nobody. You have your revenge bod and a good head on your shoulders. Continue to slay girl because you're killing it.
  5. Stalls are common and happen frequently. Talk to your doctor if you're concerned, but I stalled after a week as well and stayed that way until about 3 weeks out. My Weightloss tends to happen in intervals, like I'll be stuck at the same weight FOREVER then I suddenly lose 10lbs in two weeks
  6. I'm a post op so cal Kaiser patient! Good luck! They booked me pretty quickly after I finished my classes, it happens so fast!

How do I start the process?

I started just by asking my pcp, she said I did qualify for it and referred me to a bariatric program. My insurance is through Kaiser, which is pretty much a one stop shop, they have basics pcps and different departments with every kind of specialty, I was lucky that Bariatric surgery was part of their offerings. From there I just followed their program and it went from there.

    What to tell people?

I feel you about your sister telling people . My sister and I used to work together, then I transitioned into another job. I'm still friendly with a lot of my previous coworkers and she went to town telling everyone! I was so frustrated, especially since the people I've told are sworn to secrecy. I've told 6 people, 6! So far my mom has admitted to me she told 1 person and my sister hasn't been shy discussing it. Only 3 people at work know, and they're incredibly trust worthy, I'm very fortunate they haven't said anything. Honestly though, I'm 3 month post op and nearly 40lbs down, no one has really noticed? I think it's because my coworkers and I see each other every day, so it's not like suddenly I'm a brand new person. 1 person has asked what I'm doing, I just say low carb and strict portion control (which is the truth).

Pain - Does it ever stop

I promise you it gets better, you were me in post op lol, I hated all of my recovery and I just long to feel normal again. Give it another week, you'll feel 1000x better then. It took about 4 weeks for me to finally feel normal again, but I promise you this misery is only temporary.

  15. Sure, my stats are: Highest weight: 285 Surgery weight: 268 Current weight: 239 Total weight loss: 46lbs I've been struggling a fair bit, i didn't lose any weight for a while after my liquid diet because I indulged a little when I could eat solids again, but I'm back on track and things are going well. I'm in Los Angeles, CA. Had my surgery at West LA medical center. I DID have to lose 10% of my weight before my surgery, and it was difficult since it was over thanksgiving. I have always done the low carb high Protein diet. And to be honest, I lost most of the 10% in about 3 weeks before class ended (just so I could make the weight, yeah, I'm bad). I did it by eating high protein (poke bowls were a constant thing in my life), no sugar, and walking a lot. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Returning to work

Definitely would recommend at least two weeks if your job is physical. A week out I was still in a bit of pain and not sleeping very well (being stuck on your back is the worst). It gets 1000% better every day, but it's definitely a healing process. My surgery was on a Wednesday and I was working again on Friday (from home) I work in digital marketing so I sit all day, but I couldn't go into the physical office till tuesday, and even then, it was very difficult. Here come the haters!

I have no intention of telling the vast majority of people, although the people I have told feel really inclined to do so sometimes, for really dumb reasons. For example: for Christmas when I barely ate my dinner (I wasn't even a month post op) a relative noticed and asked what was wrong, I said that I had been picking at the food all day and spoiled my dinner, but my mom looked at me like " ON NO WE HAVE TO TELL" no, I don't. I also have the truth and a lie out there lol. 2 groups know I've had the surgery, only a handful of people know I've had the sleeve (we're talking parents, sibling, and 1 friend) , but the majority of people (coworkers mostly) who know about it think I got the lap band. Generally in my experience, people are less judgmental if they think your surgery isn't permanent, so it's a nice buffer to why you're losing weight, but they don't have to deal with knowing of how big of a decision you made, because ultimately it's none of their business lol. Normal?

I had a super wicked period during and after surgery for about 10 days. I think it was all the IV fluids because I was a waterfall (TMI). It was super hard because in recovery I had to change pads constantly, then after I left the hospital I recovered on my couch, I had to put a towel down to make sure I didn't stain it! I've never been able to keep up with my Water intake, so I think with all the influx of iv fluids my body just went to town and did a uterine self clean lol. 19. I went through Kaisers 12 week program, hopefully my timeline can help ! These are all 2016 dates btw lol Met with my PCP, said I want to look into getting the surgery, she then referred me to the bariatric program: May 10th Was contacted by the guy who schedules the classes in mid may to book my overview. Initial Options program overview: June 6th (This is where I signed up for my classes) Options class began: July 11th Mid point appt: Aug 17, I got all my labs, EKG and other test done this day as well, I was there forever! Because my class was on mondays, due to the Labor Day holiday it was 13 weeks (not 12) because we didn't have class. I also missed a class (so I had to make up one) so I didn't officially end class till Oct 10th (my official class end was scheduled to end Oct 3). Final Appt with Bariatric Dr: Oct 17 (this is so I could get REFERRED to the surgeon) Surgeon Appt: Oct 31 First Surgery schedule: Nov 4th but due to a scheduling mishap (ughhhh) it was rescheduled to Nov 30th Come Monday I'll be 2 months post op
  20. Hi all, I'm sure you're all asked about this a bit, but I also just wanted to talk lol. I've been feeling pretty good and my surgeon cleared me for puree foods today, I was so excited. Well I found myself at KFC getting mashed potatoes for lunch then Taco Bell getting mushy Beans with nacho cheese and sour cream. I am pretty sure this wasn't what my surgeon had in mind, but I've been so over liquids and Soups I wanted something different. Does anyone have any tasty recommendations for their puree stage that were quick and easy to grab? Or stored well once prepared? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    I did it!

That's awesome! Congrats and welcome to the other side! I am officially a month post op tomorrow and feel completely normal. So I promise you the pain your experiencing now will get exponentially better each day! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. Area** darn typo Hi all, Please delete if not allowed, but when I was pre op (I'm a month post op tomorrow woot woot) I bought 2 cases of Isopure (fruit punch flavor) and now can't stand the stuff and I have 7 bottles left, completely sealed. They are FREE to a good home if anyone needs them post or pre op for their liquid diet/ Protein. They expire 8/17 so they're good for a while still. They're usually around $5 a bottle and they're heavy, so I don't think it would be worth it to ship. Totally willing to meet you somewhere, I just want them off my treadmill so I can start using it (it's been a fancy coat rack for too long lol) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. They gave me some stuff to help me relax, but when they wheeled me into the OR I was fully aware of what they were doing. I wasn't scared per say, just nervous, because you know, this was the moment I've spent MONTHS waiting for and it was finally happening. So it was kinda surreal. It was also my first surgery too, so I was a little excited to try the anesthesia, I wanted to see if I could challenge it (I know I'm ridiculous, luckily for me the docs know what they're doing lol) I thought it was be like fading into sleep, but nope, just lights out and poof, in recovery. Literally as if someone turned off the lights for a second then turned them back on. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
