  1. I would go into any Kaiser adult medicine and ask for a weight check. Then make sure they document it in the computer. Then start losing weight.

I originally went for a regular appointment in January 2016 and was shocked by my weight. I did a non-surgery healthy eating class and then in May asked for a referal for WLS. By the time I met with the surgeon she went off of my January weight as my starting point even though I'd lost about 18 pounds already by the time I saw her.

What a kick ass idea!!!! You seriously rock !!!!! Much easier than going through kp.org and tracking down someone that can tell me what i needed.. this way I can weigh in after my class and start my process..

They should be open tomorrow, I think. If not then Tuesday.

  3. I had surgery 13 days ago at Kaiser Fremont. I went to orientation meeting/class in June. At the end of the meeting they tell you to go to the reception desk and book s consult with a surgeon. I didn't rush down there, but noticed some people left the room early. Turns out many people got their consultant appointment that very day. I couldn't get in for 6 weeks. They were booked by the time I was in line.

Finally met with the surgeon and she gave me a goal weight. Had to lose 12 more pounds before the next step. So if your weight is already documented start losing now. It will count.

Took me a while longer to get to my 5 pounds to goal because I wasn't sure I was going to go through with surgery at that point.

When I was finally 5 to goal I called to schedule my psych appointment and Fremont had lost their dr. So had to go to Union City which was booked up for 5 more weeks.

    Ugh!

So, for me it was 6 months from orientation to surgery. A friend of mine around the same time had things fall into place much faster and it was just under 3 months for her. Had to do with her hitting goal just 9 days before I did and she originally had a psych appointment early on.

    Hope that helps.

  4. I'm still having a hard time hitting 60+ grams of Protein per day. I seem to get to 50 okay, but the extra 10 is a challenge. Are you getting in all your protein and how much were you told to have per day?

I definitely have not been getting in 60 grams a day. My doctor said if I hit between 45 and 50 I'll be good. 64 is the "month" goal for me. I usually drink a Protein Shake and a half and that's it as far as protein.

Me too. I just got some Adkins Lift drinks that have 20g of protein. That has really helped. They have 3 flavors, but I've only tried the berry so far.

  5. Hi! How are ya doing on full liquids? What does your daily menu entail? I was excited yesterday I finally met my liquid and Protein intake but I feel like I maybe doing too much. Mind you when I drink my shake it takes over an hour before I finish the whole thing. I find myself with a Water bottle at all times. I am just curious what everyone is eating. 10 days post op down 11 lbs since surgery.

My daily menu is nothing exciting. I usually have a Protein Shake and a half, and then something of the Soup variety for dinner. I've been digging light creamy Soups, because they have a lot of flavor. I don't think I've been doing 64 g and 64 ounces, but I've been doing about 50. That's what my doctor suggested. I have my 10 day postop tomorrow, and I'm probably going to be cleared for soft foods. I can't wait!

When you have Soup how much do you usually have?

I can drink 8oz of broth now. Been primarily living on premier Protein shakes, broth with Protein added, G2 drink, crystal light. I've had yogurt once, still not something I actually like, and I've had cottage cheese and refried Beans with plain greek yogurt mixed in. On christmas I did have two spoons of mashed potatoes drenched in turkey juice and a shred of turkey that I chewed to death.

I also have chewed some string cheese into mush too. I know these things aren't on my current list, but I'm careful to not swallow anything until it's mush. My doctor said I could have a scrambled egg with cheese on day 10! whoohoo.. and if that goes well I could also try some fish. She seems to be less strict on the stages than I see in other programs.

  6. How is everyone doing?

I've been off pain meds since Christmas Day, but yesterday started getting a bad pain on my right side at my upper rib cage. Just talked to nurse and she said it could be an internal stitch there that I pulled or aggravated. Might be taking pain meds again if it gets worse.

On a positive side I'm down 12 pounds since surgery! Yay!

Congrats on the weight-loss! But I'm sorry you're still in pain. Hopefully it heals quickly! I feel great, as far as pain. I've been off pain meds since the 22nd. I'd rate it may be a two out of 10, it really doesn't hurt except when I switch positions. I'm able to lay on both sides, and flat on my back. My main problem has been that my throat is still super sore, and I know it's nothing other than pain from intubation. It's slowly getting better but it's super frustrating. I feel it on the side of my face and it's just very blah. On the upside, getting required fluids in his gotten easy, I have a doctors appointment tomorrow hoping to move onto soft foods. Im down about 15 from surgery. I wish you guys the best!

    Congratulations!

Sorry about the throat pain. I never had any which I was very surprised by.

I have had a strange feeling of being strangled around my neck. Finally figured out it was from gas so taking gas meds more regularly.

  8. I'm still having pain and taking pain meds. I can tolerate the pain, except my blood pressure goes up significantly when I have pain and gives me the worst head ache. I'm going to have to request a refill.

I'm sick of Protein shakes, but still sipping a bit each day. I prefer chicken broth with unjury Protein added.

Been able to get in more Water yesterday and today. Probably still not enough though. Also drinking some crystal light and G2, and having Popsicles and hello occasionally. Oh, and ate some yogurt yesterday, but I don't like yogurt much so it's hard to eat.

Can't wait to eat some stage 2 foods. Thinking of making a chicken or tuna salad in my vita mix so I can eat that. Next week. My doctor said I could try a scrambled egg on day 10 and then some fish if the egg is tolerated. Looking forward to it.

Oh I'm sorry you're still in pain! I hope it's better for you soon. And yeah, it is super hard to get liquid in. I keep worrying about dehydration. And oh my God an eggs sounds so good. When do you see your doctor next?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I think I see her on January 3rd.

    Ah okay.

She told me most patients call her by 10 begging to eat something so she now says go ahead and try eggs and fish on day 10.

I agree. Pretty disappointed at some of the comments I've seen here. It's not you, some people can't help themselves.

About your question... I'm only 5 days out so take it for what it is. If you're making if yourself I recently found low carb high Protein tortillas at my local grocery store. Had them a few weeks ago. They weren't bad. You can always eat the Protein out of the dish first then if you have room take a few bites of the tortilla and see how it works for you.

    Merry Xmas.

  12. Bariatrcpal's store sells chicken and noodle (which you don't eat I gave them to my hubby when I used it) it has I believe 15 grams of Protein. They also carry other kinds of Soup with added Protein. I also use Non-flavored Protein Powder that I add to other foods it helps with getting in much-needed protein to aid in healing. Just a few tricks. Get in lots of protein and lots of fluids.

Which unflavored protein to you like most?
