  1. I'm at my half way mark!! 70 lbs down, 70 to go!!
  2. I'm not embarrassed and I tell a lot of people about it. I think I'm doing great, so I feel totally proud of myself! Like the other pp said, I can do things I could never do before. I had the nicest flight last week and I fit well in the seats and was not squished and uncomfortable. I want to travel more now and just got tickets to go to Florida on spring break! I like to dance and want to go out dancing! I'll see if friends want to go this weekend! I feel sexy, so I went online and got myself 3 dates this week! So yeah, what's to be embarrassed about??
  3. I went on vacation and basically ate what I wanted (but couldn't eat much) and didn't lose or gain. I am fine with that. I went to NYC to visit my friends from when I lived there a few years back--- and ate the top of a pizza, some great Israeli food, amazing thai food at my favorite thai restaurant in NY and lots of other things... some bad things too, like candy (peanut m & m's, plain m & m's and a snickers bar.) I stayed with a guy friend who had less than great food at his house. I had captain crunch for Breakfast and cheese and crackers at 4 am when we'd get home from the bars (seriously, that's how he eats!) Oh, and I drank a lot!! I even took a shot, which I thought might make me die, but just made me incredibly drunk!!! but I didn't gain weight, so that's perfectly fine with me!!
  4. I haven't had anything carbonated at all- not even champagne on New Year's!! I just don't miss it at all. I also feel it will open a can of worms if I do start to drink it! I was seriously addicted before! The hardest part for me about skipping soda is finding drinks when I am thirsty and you're someplace like a movie theater. I just hate spending $5 on water!! I think diet coke would be better in some ways, but there are times I will drink lemonade or something non-carbonated but w/ calories if I'm desperate or something, but that's rare. Since I don't eat and drink together, it makes it easier at restaurants. Just give it up. You'll be fine. before the surgery ALL I DRANK was diet soda! I never drank Water at all!! I had a major caffeine addiction too, and have given that up as well. Now when I drink caffeine or even have chocolate I get all giddy and hyper. It's more fun that way, to have it something rare!
  5. I'm the same person, but more confident, outgoing and physically active. Sometimes I even dance in the street or move around, just to move! I have had some internal/emotional changes with my relationship to food and have come to grip with some of my problems in that area. It's all part of a process and you will change, but it's a bit unpredictable and you can't know how you will change until it's happening. I think this is true especially if you've been fat all your life (I have been fat since about 12 years old in varying degrees, at least I THOUGHT I was fat and saw myself as fat.) I realized yesterday I haven't been this weight in as long as I can remember and feel so THIN now... I know I'm not thin, but last time I weighed 210 I was on the way up and probably felt like a whale... I was probably thinking, "oh man, I weigh over 200 lbs. This sucks, how will I lose it?" and so forth! Now I'm like, "whoo-hoo, only 11 lbs till onderland!! I'll be there by Feb or March!" The difference is I KNOW I will get there, as before I always felt like there was this wall up!!
  6. Between my consult and my pre-op appointment I lost about 15 lbs, but on the day of surgery I had gained a few pounds. I didn't even have a "send off" feast or anything! I stuck to the diet! But, of course they did the surgery anyway. Have you lost some weight before the surgery? I think your doctor should be fine, because this is the reason you are doing the surgery, right?? Good luck!! ((((HUGS))))
  7. I'm starting to notice it as well... what a change from being invisible. Even when I'm not being hit on, I see more people smiling at me.
  8. I'm 31 but since being banded am starting to feel 21! I'm smaller than I was at 21 and look better too! however, I would not have been able to handle the changes that have happened to me at 21 (emotionally, anyway.)
  9. I waited about 6 weeks. I had an infection in my surgical site, and I just couldn't wait for it to heal completely. It was fine.
  10. Here are some things I am feeling soooooo good about- what about you? 1. Not knowing how to react to being hit on (that this is actually a problem for me is a totally brand new thing!) 2. That I bought skinny jeans in a size 16 (I can actually be fashionable now, and look all hipsterish and cute!) 3. That the boots I bought 2 years ago actually zip up on my legs now! 4. That last summer when I went to Torrid, even the size 4's didn't fit. I just bought a shirt in a size 1!!! 5. I feel so damn good! I even bought make-up and thought I would never wear make-up and that it was stupid. I showed me! (ha!) 6. I really want to keep going! I am over the hump and happy, happy, happy. 7. 2009 is going to rock! what are you feeling GOOD about these days???
  11. When I was heavier I never wanted to go out! I was always embarrassed and self conscious when I did go out. I think I put up a natural wall that made me someone people weren't interested in. I haven't really had a relationship in years... other than little flings and they always ended badly. Now I am feeling very confident. I feel like I look good, and I DO!!! I am feeling hot n' sexy. I actually need to learn how to turn guys down (I'm a lesbian anyway) but I have had a couple guys try to kiss me or something since losing weight and realize I don't understand the signals and make conversation and don't get that they are flirting. When I was younger I had some strategies, but they were rather rude (as teens can be) and I don't want to do that. It usually resulted in the guy being rude back... so not a very good adult way to deal with being hit on. But honestly I can't remember being hit on in public since HS unless it was at a college party and I was drunk. Even then, the times were few and far between. Any time I have been hit on by someone I was interested in, it ended up in a relationship... so I don't have a lot of experience just being hit on by strangers and dealing with it. I actually have had a couple bad experiences since I don't know how to deal with this kind of attention. I am so glad that this has happened though because I can learn a lot and take my life in the next direction (hopefully, relationship, marriage, kids, so forth.) I am feeling very confident and great looking, buying new clothes and feeling hot, hot, hot. People pick up on that and I notice even strangers smiling at me more. it's so strange!! I know I have some things to learn, but I will...
  12. I went out to this fancy tea place for Breakfast. We all shared our meals. I had the salmon quiche, someone else had a strawberry brie omelette (it was SO good) and another person has this quiche wrapped in phyllo dough. I had 1/3 of each of those items. We also got fresh fruit. I ate a bit of everything for breakfast. I ate all of my salmon piece, then had the rest of the other two later in the day for dinner/lunch. At night I had 2 perogies. I ate very little today, and also didn't get in much nutrients.
  13. I can eat maybe 5-6 bites of food. I think it's about 2-4 oz at a time or 1/4-1/2 a cup. Depending on the food, I could eat more. I almost always find the Protein fills me up and I don't have room for the veggies. I'm on my third fill and think I have good restriction now.

  15. You need to go back to your doctor and have them look into what the problem might be. I am guessing there is a medical reason why it's not working...but the band is a TOOL and you need to work it like a tool. I hate to say it and be preachy, but don't eat the bread, Pasta and junky foods. Stick to the 1/2 cup portion size even if you CAN eat more. Or go back on liquids for two weeks to shrink the pouch. Don't drink and eat at the same time. You can't just go back to old habits and make the band work. The band won't work alone. You MUST follow the diet and exercise plan. I found that when I strayed I lost a lot less.. When I was back on track, I've done great. I was eating potato chips and pasta for awhile and went on what I called a plateau, but really I wasn't losing b/c I was eating JUNK!! also, if you haven't GAINED, consider that a success. I know I was continually gaining before surgery, so if you've managed to keep off that weight you are doing great and the band is doing something for you!
  16. I've had days like that, especially in the beginning when I just started eating soft foods, or right after a fill. Sometimes I eat a spoonful of Peanut Butter, which is good, has Protein and carbs, which maybe you need more of. Cottage cheese is really filling too, as is ricotta. You can heat up low-fat ricotta w/ spices and marinara sauce, or w/ some spenda and apple sauce or something. I wouldn't worry unless you start to really get sick and woozy. Drink more Water. You will eventually find yourself at a place where your intake is more normal. I had days where I only had 200-400 calories in a day, but now I have anywhere from 800-1200 and am losing really well.
  17. I have a lot, but here is one... by 2010, I should never have to shop at lane bryant again!! I'm already very close, so I just have to keep at it. I am so PROUD to say that today at Torrid I bought myself a size 16 pair of SKINNY JEANS!!! I also want to have a lot of SEX in 2009!!! (2008 was a bummer of a year in that department!)
  18. I told almost everyone. I don't tell strangers so much, but I'm so happy that when I meet people who are struggling w/ their weight I tell them about what I've gone through. It's not a secret. the only people who don't know are the parents of the students in my class. All my co-workers, boss, etc. know as well as friends and family.
  19. I've noticed a huge change in my face... That was yesterday At my heaviest YAY YAY YAY
  20. I puked today at lunch. I ate about 3 bites of chicken, and had a major "stuck" issue and threw up what I had eaten. I am out of town and have no shakes or anything w/ me. I am drinking a jamba juice because it was at the airport and what was available. I got the all fruit one (218 cal) because they were out of soy Protein and I don't drink whey. Anyway, does your doctor tell you no solids for 2 days after vomiting? I am VERY hungry- as it's 4:20 and all I ate today was an egg white and a bit of avocado. I only vomited one other time and that was before I even had any restriction.
  21. Thanks everyone... I am starting to see what you see. I'll focus on the clothing sizes, measurements (my doctor took them so I will have to ask if they can take them again for me) and just on my great progress... and I'm going to start saving for my tummy tuck and boob job!!
  22. I've seen ppl post about this before... so I thought I'd let everyone know, it's NO PROBLEM. My doc said not to eat 2 hrs before take off, so I didn't. Also, on the flight I did eat (since it was a 6 + hour flight.) I drank 5 oz of orange juice and a few hours later had some chips. I would say be careful but go ahead and enjoy traveling!
  23. I wonder if the weather is the reason! It's been very cold here.
  24. It's a bit unpredicatable... for example, I make this great turkey salad and eat it all the time (for lunch several times a week) but last night it got stuck. I didn't PB but it was definitely a not great feeling. I have had that stuck feeling with a lot of different foods. I have only PB'd a few times, and DO avoid those foods or foods like them by all means (fried chicken, french fries, etc.)
  25. I've lost a lot of weight- numbers say so... but I don't see the difference at all!!!! I'm posting these because I need help... DO you see the difference??? August 15 (3 days before surgery) Today Today August 15 I don't understand why I don't LOOK different!!!!
