Hello, Rachel. I just joined the forum and will be having my sleeve next month. I currently weigh 215, but because of my height I have a BMI of 39. I am also wondering how slowly the weight will come off, plus I am 55 years old, so the metabolism isn't what it once was. But I figure the weight is going to go down for sure, so how long it takes shouldn't be the worry. But when you take a big step like this to lose weight you want to get on with it already!!!
I have only told a couple of women that I work with who I thought would be supportive and quickly got the "you don't need surgery, just diet" BS. What??? Like we never thought of that! I told them that my arthritic knees and back hurt so bad I can barely walk to the bathroom without considerable pain and I'm finding it increasingly difficult to wipe my own a**. That shut them up. I think people who have never lived with obesity just don't understand how it physically (and mentally) affects you.

Well, that was my my opinion in the matter. I don't get why you would say I lack empathy or support for others. You really don't know me. I still stand by my opinion. I had the surgery and I have to adjust my life according to my new habits required by my wls.
My friends and family are making their own choices for their lives. Who am I to expect that the rest of the world has to change according to my wishes?
If my friend has to have some dental work and can't drink or eat for a few hours, does that mean that I have to do the same, even though my wls requires I meet my liquid goals? Or when my dad gets his hip replaced, should I also stay at home and do exercises for my hip, instead of going shopping or out with friends? Or should I have gone to the same school as my best friend from high school? No.
We all make choices only for ourselves, regarding any matter. That's what makes us individuals and the world more interesting.
Sure there can be raging feelings due to hormones exiting our bodies, but again, we all made that choice to have it happen. That doesn't mean I can't be supportive, but the issue here was of expectations of the world to accomodate us and that just isn't realistic or fair to others.

The first day post op I was doubting my sanity. Now, five weeks later, I can't believe I waited so late night to do this.

Not to be rude, but you chose to have the surgery, not them. I don't expect my hubby or family adjusting their eating habits for me. I will eat according to my plan and they can enjoy whatever they want.

I'm in the same boat, I weigh 213 but have many medical issues so having the sleeve will help me with reducing my high cholesterol , my sleep apnea, etc. Good luck

My BMI is 33 and I am 5'4, 195 lbs and will be getting sleeved on December 6 in Mexico. I have juggled back and forth with my weight my whole life but was finally 134lbs 4 years ago. Then I became pregnant and gained close to 90 pounds. I've tried to lose the weight in so many ways, but as soon as I lose 20 pounds, I gain it back a month later. It is so depressing, stressful and overwhelming to constantly be thinking about your weight. I feel so heavy and uncomfortable in my own body and I've finally decided to do something permanent.

I was sleeved on the 5th October with a BMI or 30.8. I now have a BMI of 27. Getting close to normal. It's been quite straightforward so far and the fear was the worst bit. I'm a Brit living in Singapore, but the doctors/ hospitals here are fantastic. I self paid. I would say go ahead and don't listen to the naysayers. Only thing is, have you spoken to previous British patients from your doc. I'd insist on this. It will help you know what to expect. Be sure you will get the right after care if any issues. Good luck with your surgery ps there are some low BMI chats on here you may want to follow.

My BIN is 35. I also have a mild case of heart disease , high blood pressure and the beginning level of diabetes which is the reason I decided to do the surgery after I had done all of my research these past 8 months despite my cardiologist and PCP reccommanding it to me last year. So I know I made the right choice.

I was 245 in early July b4 I even attended the seminar. When I went for my 1st appt I was down to 236 and as of today I'm 224. In total Iost 21 lbs but from my surgeons stand point Iost 12 lbs since they are going based on what my weight was at my 1st appt and not b4. I'm just so focused on eating right and doing all I need to do b4 my surgery on Jan 30th. My goal weight is 155 and I know I will achieve it and maintain it .

My surgery weight was 235 and my goal weight was 150. I surpassed that and got down to 143 where I've been maintaining within a few pounds for over a year now. My surgery was in August of 2014.

I'm still not seeing it as non supportive. I guess you would know this person's tone. Are you sure you're not reading too much into it? Did you ask her what exactly she meant by it?
I think we all have a tendency to be hyper sensitive after this surgery sometimes.

Hi, I hope you're feeling well. And thanks so much for replying..
When I tell people how much I weigh they laugh at me and so I know what u mean with saying you're scared to tell people your weight. We are both short, therefore our bmi us quite high still. I do know it's going to be a lot longer for us to get it off, but I'm sure it's all worth it.
Have a great day and thanks for taking the time to reply. Good luck and well done xxxx????

Wow, what an amazing reply. Thank you so much for your honesty. I've already lost friends from this and I haven't had it done yet. I have one person by my side, and thats my husband and tbh if I only have him, then I'm ok with that. Although he's a little on the fence about it all atm.I'm really quite scared, but all this positivity has really helped me.

    Hi guys,
Just wondering if there are any sleevers out there having or had surgery done weighing 200lbs and if so, did you lose much from it?
I'm so so scared. I've read loads of good stories on here thank God, but the very few people I have told are really against my decision. My husband is half and half about it. He is paying for my surgery but he is ready to bail at any given moment due to outside influences. I've battled with my weight my whole entire life. Even at the age of 6 I weighed 8 stone. (112lbs) this is the smallest I've been in my whole adult life, but it's coming back and fast!! So I feel this is my last attempt at making myself happy. I know weight loss isn't a magic cure to make you happy, but I'm fortunate enough to have all I want and need, except for being able to look in the mirror without crying and not wearing the clothes I want to wear!
    Thanks to anyone that reads.
    Have a great day

Mine finally stopped dripping for no apparent reason, but it does drip when I am bordering on full. I love it. It's totally my warning sign that I need to stop eating NOW.

Sometimes I am full after a 1/2 cup, sometimes I am full after a few tablespoons. I can't always tell, but my nose can! It's my built in personal alarm. When I listen to my nose, I never get the gacky I gotta throw up NOW feeling, when I don't, well...
