    Revision to RNY - Hypoglycaemia

Thanks for sharing. How do you function with it? Is it a way of life for you now? Has the doctor shared if there is a cure?
  2. Hi 👋 Wondering if anyone has experienced hypoglycemia after surgery? I had my VSG done September 25/2016 with severe GERD which prompted the surgeon to do a revision to RNY on August 28/2017. From that surgery they perforated my bowel and had to go back in for emergency surgery then after that a large abcess formed which resulted in needing a tube inserted surgically into my pelvic area to drain. Then from that I formed an infection from one of the incision sights which they had to reopen and then have packing to heal it . I'm happy all that trauma is over. I was at the doctor Friday and he advised me I am now hypoglycemic and I need to change my eating routine and need to eat more often throughout the day. I have done that but I am still experiencing episodes of lightheadedness clammy and energy loss. Has anyone here experienced this before? thanks for taking the time to read my post

    Struggling - Update

Hi dear! LOL I share so much with you and don't even know your name ? My name is Tammy. Checking in to see how you are doing and give you an update since my surgery on the 28th of August from Sleeve to RNY. Well the surgery definitely fixed my initial problem of not being able to eat without feeling nauseous and a heavy feeling on my chest. It was immediate from the first drink of water I took. It was an amazing feeling to feel 'normal' when I drank. That's the good part of the story! I stayed overnight in the hospital of course the surgeon came in on the Tuesday and saw my heart rate was elevated and fever and I was in excruciating pain in my stomach which I thought was from all of the work he had to do on my bowels. He repaired over 250cm of bowel from adhesion's. They were keeping a close eye on me throughout the day but then my heart rate jumped to 160 and he rushed me into a CT scan - the surgeon literally pushed me on the gurney down to the CTscan himself because he couldn't wait for a porter he was that concerned. Rightfully so as the scan showed he perforated my bowels. So then I was rushed into emergency surgery. From this my heart didn't go down or my fever and my white blood cell count wouldn't come down they had me on antibiotics. so then they sent me to radiology and put a picc line in. then they sent me for another CT scan and saw a large abscess on my pelvic which was causing extreme pressure on my bladder and bowels causing pain of course. so back in for a small surgery for them to put in a drain to this abscess but they couldn't go through my stomach because of everything there and fear of perforating bowel again. So they went in from my backside literally at my bum just a 1/2 inch from my bum crack it was so uncomfortable and painful but it needed to be so the abscess could drain. so then my whiteblood cell would go up and then down. they kept trying to take me off iv antibiotics but the infections were to strong and the oral antibiotics wasn't working. Then one of my incisions became infected just over my belly button. The surgeon came by looked at it because i mentioned it was a little sore and hard and red and he immediately lanced the wound and of course the stuff that came out was horrible and it just kept draining out and it was very deep. then they became concerned that it was so large that it may be going to the bowel and some of the discharge might be bile. So then they took me off all foods again and only iv nutrition until the ruled it to be ok. So after almost 3 weeks in the hospital they have sent me home with nursing care on a daily basis to pack my wound and drain out my tube. I'm still only eating pureed food as directed my surgeon and nutritionist. I really feel my bowels aching when it is digesting my food. i'm super tired now and need to take a break. i really hope you are doing well! Tammy

    Struggling - Update

Hi I've posted a few times since my surgery sharing how I've struggled and not how I haven't been able to eat. I have undergone numerous tests to rule out other issues. Well after seeing my surgeon on Wednesday he has advised me the only course of action now is to revert to a Roux-en-Y now. So now it's just waiting for a new surgery date. I'm looking forward to a better healing process and getting my life back on track. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

    Partial digestion

Hi I haven't watched that video or any others. My doctor shared with me that this happens to 10% of patients. I unfortunately am 8 months post surgery and have being struggling with food intake. On average I eat around 300 calories a day. When I try to eat more it comes back up. My doctor just ordered me back in for surgery to have the Roux-en-Y to hopefully fix this issue.

May need to have RNY now :( FRUSTRATED

Hi painter88, Thanks for your kind words. They say that the bypass helps to relieve hiatus hernia's and GERD. You can also read my response below to another member. Hope you have a wonderful day

May need to have RNY now :( FRUSTRATED

Well, the insurance says 200 calories a day is not a sufficient amount to do the tasks to required. I get tired after my morning routine of getting my young 4 year old off to school then taking a shower I need to rest after I do all of that. The surgeon said that often with Hiatus Hernia they will perform a bypass on individuals without obesity concerns to correct the issue. They are not doing the surgery so that I can loose more weight they are doing the surgery to try and correct the problem. The major issue with it though and the reason why they went with the sleeve surgery is that I have tremendous amounts of scar tissue which did not allow them to do the Roux-n-y to begin with so they are saying they will try but are not confident they will succeed. I really don't know what the outcome is going to be. I know I want my life back though I'm tired of waiting and putting my life on hold. Thanks for your kind words and support. On a positive note though one of the main reasons I went for this surgery was because of the sever back pain I lived with and I don't have any pain in my back now WOOHOOO. That makes me super happy
  11. I posted here a couple months ago about my struggle post sleeve surgery. Not able to take in more then 100 cals a day. Doctors said it will get better keep trying but also had scopes to rule out anything serious. I am now 4mths post op and today the doctor thinks we should look at going the bypass route. I am up to 240 calories a day but it is a struggle. I push myself to take in as much as I can which then has me vomiting. They put me on 4 different types of meds which has not helped with the GERD or hiatus hernia. I still feel like my food sits in my chest just waiting to come back up. My work insurance will not allow me to go back to work and have put me on LTD because I am not healthy enough to do my job. So now I am financially put in a difficult situation as well. I can't believe I'm in this situation this is not what I had planned. I'm now concerned if this is the route they are going to take I have to wait another 2 months for it to be done. FRUSTRATED

    Struggling

Hi I had a gastric sleeve on September 26. The plan was to have a RNY but due to excessive scar tissue in my stomach from previous surgeries they had to do the sleeve. I was pleased with their decision as I preferred them doing it all laparoscopic then to being cut open. So my issue is since surgery I have been struggling with pain/discomfort and the inability to to eat. My daily intake is at the most 100 calories. They have done a scope which just showed inflammation, CT barium which showed no issues and now 2 barium xrays which I am awaiting results from. I have no energy because I can't eat. When I do it sits in my chest and then crawls up to my throat and then once it starts to digest I get pain in my stomach area. This occurs with any food pureed, regular and/or liquid. My sick leave case manager has reviewed my case and has taken me off work until at least January 5th and is looking at extending it. I'm so frustrated I wish we could figure out what is happening because I want my life back. it is 9 weeks now since surgery I was certain it would get better. Other people tell me to take sips it will get better and that frustrates me because that's all I've been doing! I try to eat more because I'm so concerned for my health but it just comes back up. Thanks for letting me vent/rant having a hard day!
