daya reacted to James Marusek in Stricture?
    According to http://www.dartmouth-hitchcock.org/bariatric/risks_of_bariatric_surgery.html
Intestinal obstruction (blockage) In some cases, scar tissue or inflammation can narrow the new connection between the stomach and intestine. This is called a stricture. Strictures usually develop four to six weeks after surgery, and affect less than five percent of bariatric surgery patients. Patients with strictures will notice that they are progressively less able to take in fluids and food. Strictures can be treated with an endoscope, which is a thin, flexible tube with image sensors and special tools at the tip. A doctor will use an endoscope with a tiny inflatable balloon at its tip to open the stricture. An ulcer may narrow the outlet of the pouch as it heals after surgery. The ulcer can obstruct the passage of food, or cause bleeding. Such bleeding is usually controlled by medications. To prevent ulcers, patients must take an acid-blocker (like Pepcid) for two months after surgery. If you are already on an acid-blocker, such as Prilosec, Nexium or Prevacid, you can continue this medication. In addition, all patients must avoid aspirin (unless you take aspirin for your heart or to prevent a stroke) and other medications that increase the risk of bleeding (such as ibuprofen, Advil) for two months after surgery. Only in unusual cases is surgery needed to revise the stomach-intestine connection. After any abdominal surgery, internal scars (adhesions) form in the abdomen. In rare cases, the lower intestine (bowel) can become twisted around an adhesion and cause an obstruction. This keeps digested food from passing through the body. An obstruction can happen at any time, even years after bariatric surgery. Because the obstruction must be repaired before the intestine loses its blood supply, an emergency operation may be necessary.

daya reacted to Looser27 in Pain In Back, Clear Ulcer Pain and Chest pain
After a year of dealing with this I thought id try here and see if anyone had similar experiences. I am about 8 years post surgery. I have had horrible spastic pain in my high upper left back side. It is beyond horrible on the pain scale. To me it seems similar to when I had gallbladder pains (which was removed 4 months post op). We tried regular anti spasmics drugs but doctor thought it was more my stomach. It took 3 months to see a GI doctor who thought it was muscular. I landed in the ER with chest pains that worried me only to hear I should suck up the pain and they just called it gastris. I got charged 6k to swallow some maalox and liquid lidocaine. I am still waiting 2 months for endoscopy (last one was about 6 years ago when I had ulcers). It seems to be triggered after eating certain things. I will often find the only thing that can calm it is hot noodle Soup. I do have clear ulcer pains from time to time on top of the other 2 issues. While Im waiting for the endoscopy I was given more liquid lidocaine to try and see if it would help. I have mixed results with it. Overall Id say its innefective. I also was newly prescribed Robaxin for a back spasm and surprised that doesn't seem to touch it so Im leaning toward stomach. I am desperate to be rid of the pain and better yet get diagnosed and fixed before my next deductible year comes around.

    Hello sunnydeeliteful,
How are you? I had my surgery on November 8th I can help you as much as I can since I still new at this too but is also helpful to have someone to talk to about how are you feeling and other things that a regular person won't understand.
