  1. It was overwhelming at first. I flew in the day of surgery, got picked up in San Diego, drove to the clinic and immediately started filling out paperwork. I also met with Dr. Quinones before surgery, he speaks perfect English, and answered all of my last minute questions. Unfortunately, my surgery was the last one of the day since I arrived last, so I had a bit of a wait until they got me for surgery. I could have used someone to help calm my nerves. The entire staff was kind, and they always have a translator there, 24/7. My first 24 hrs after surgery was not great. I was constantly nauseated. And I was second guessing my decision. I didn't feel hardly any pain, but that nausea was too much. Turns out, they had me on narcotics for pain and an anti-nausea. Once I realized what they had me on, I asked them to stop the pain meds and only give me anti-nausea. I had a complete turn around after that. I was able to walk around a lot more and even felt up to talking to the other patients. I was able to laugh and smile again, so then I knew everything was going to be alright. My surgery was Nov 21, 2016. I am doing well. Other than how little I eat, I have no other indicators or issues I had surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Q and his staff.

  2. The one thing that I can think of is your body is adjusting to the weight loss so it could actually be your pelvis shifting... Have you talked to your doctor about it? I know that now that I've lost weight I've noticed my hips "click" a lot more than they did before... it has to adjust like everything else because of the weight change.

I hope it gets better! Keep us posted!

Thank you. I will bring it up with my doc on the 7th.

I would check with the surgeon. I've noticed tail bone pain and I think it's because my butt is smaller and I don't have that cushion anymore. Lol. I plan on talking to my surgeon at next month's appointment.

    Will do, thanks.

  3. Good morning. I have a question about some pain I have on the back side of my pelvis, both sides. It seems it is deep, coming from the bone itself. I don't recall doing anything to cause it. I first noticed it two nights ago when I was trying to sleep on my sides. Now I notice it just sitting. Anyone else experience this? I've lost just over 30 pounds but I have plenty of junk in the trunk as a cushion.

  4. My energy was depleted, I felt like a zombie some days. Once I was able to eat more Protein and increase my Water intake I slowly started having more energy. It took me about a month and a half to feel my energy levels return, and then some.

  5. Hi everyone. I'm new here. I'm from Chile, so please excuse any grammatical errors and the use of metric system, I'm two and a half years post op (vsg). Before my surgery I weighted 85 kg and I had congenital dislipidemia, hypothiroidism and insulin resistance. After six months of post op diet and excercise (swiming and gym) I finnally reached my goal of 56 kg. I was so damn proud!

A few months after my surgery I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I had suffered for years from chronic pain without getting a diagnosis.

I started to take pregabalin and duloxetin but after a couple months the drugs stopped working. The pain was unbearable and I stopped working out. Then I was diagnosed with depression, chronic fatigue and endometriosis, osteorthrosis and GERD.

With that came more medication (seroquel, escitalopram, higher doses of pregabalin and tramadol) and treatments that I couldn't afford because working became almost impossible. I started regaining my weight and I was commited to a psychiatric institution two times because of suicide attempts. I'm better now. At least mentally, but I'm currently stuck at 70kg with a 600 calorie diet. And I try to excercise at least 2 times per week (eliptical and ballet fitness). I don't have money to visit a doctor and ask if what I'm doing is safe or OK. if any of you have similar problems please help me out. Specially with a meal plan.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Perhaps you could restart by going on a two-week liquid diet. Protein shakes would be good for that.

The best Protein source I know is chicken breast. Four ounces (about 113 grams) of chicken breast has 32 grams of protein. If you ate that, or something similar, twice a day, you would be very close to your protein goal of 70 to 90 grams.

Have beef or turkey Jerky and cans or pouches of tuna or chicken stashed in your purse or car. Also, hard-boiled eggs make a nice snack.

For Breakfast, Greek yogurt is really tasty and the kind I get has 12 grams of protein per serving. Two scrambled eggs will get you about 14 grams of protein.

Make sure you stop eating carbs like bread, Pasta, rice, and anything with sugar in it. Always eat your protein first, followed by vegetables and fruits.

Last thing, be sure you are consuming 64 ounces (about 2 liters) of Water daily. Protein and Water, protein and water, protein and water. It's becoming my mantra!

    Good luck!

  6. I did it by myself in Tijuana, Pompeii Surgical. It was a bit different, but the staff was great, very friendly, and they always had a translator available for a couple of the nurses. It can be a tad scary just because I couldn't speak their language. The doctor spoke perfect English, so that put me at ease. I questioned some of their nurse practices because they weren't the same as here.

Get off the pain meds as quickly as possible. I was on narcotics and anti-nausea, but the anti-nausea didn't work while I was on narcotics for pain. I asked them to withhold the pain meds and the nausea went away very quickly. I felt very good after that. I haven't had to take any pain meds since. One of the gals there the same day as me was off pain meds 4 hrs after surgery, her recovery went better than mine sine she went off the pain meds so much sooner.

I would suggest you bond very quickly with one of the other patients there so you can be each other's support. Good luck and speedy recovery!

  7. Have the same problem and I am five weeks out. I had my gall bladder out years ago and have been prone to diarrhea since then. My suspicion is the sweeteners for the most part. It is getting better but my nut said some people just have this issue versus the Constipation.

I did a trial by eliminating things from my diet. Turns out it was the dairy. Apparently, I can't do dairy anymore. I had to go shopping since most of my liquid and soft foods were dairy based.

  8. I was on a narcotic for pain immediately after surgery. This also caused me to have nausea. I asked to be taken off the the narcotics; I had mild discomfort, but no real pain, plus no more nausea. I was able to walk around better and that helped with the gas build-up. I didn't take any additional pain meds afterwards, nor have I since and I am 3 weeks post-op. They sent me home with some non-narco pain meds, but I never had to take them.

Also, they didn't need to give me anything to calm down, so I don't know if they even offer something like that. There was a woman there at the same time as me, she was very nervous prior to surgery. The doctor said that it was her choice and she could leave if she wanted to. I don't think they will operate if someone is too nervous or too anxious. By the way, in Mexico, there is no HIPA, so no patient privacy. The staff was so irritated with her, they were talking about her amongst themselves and with the other patients. That is how I know her situation. Plus, she spoke to me a few times. I felt she didn't do enough research prior to her decision, and that is why she was so nervous.

  9. I had the surgery and was by myself for 4 days at the hospital. The first 36 hours, I was feeling regret because of the pain and nausea. I wasn't able to distract myself at all since the nausea made it impossible for me to even watch TV. I think having someone there who is willing to sacrifice some sleep for your mental well-being would be a good thing. The good news is, as soon as I was off the narcotics for pain, my nausea went away and I was a completely different patient. Just my own personal experience. Good luck to you!

  10. I had the exact opposite problem, for 8 days post op I didn't have a BM.

Probably not a bad idea to check with your surgery team, there may be a medication you have an allergy to, or perhaps a sweetener in those sugar free treats.

(Google Amazon reviews for Haribo sugar-free Gummy bears to see what maltitol and xylitol do to some people's GI tract)

I will look into that, thank you. I have a suspicion it's the sweeteners. I didn't do artifical sweeteners until now.

  11. If you are 10 days post op, fluids in means fluids out. Where would solid bowel movements come from when you aren't having any solids?

Just keep drinking, it will all change once you get on some solids and semi solids.

My diet allows me suger-free pudding and greek yogurt for week two, so I thought that would be enough to produce some solid.

  12. I don't mind the weight dropping (down 44 lbs since 31 August 2016) but I do feel bad when I go out to eat with my family and they eat whatever they want with no regard for what I can eat. Oh well.

Not to be rude, but you chose to have the surgery, not them.

I don't expect my hubby or family adjusting their eating habits for me. I will eat according to my plan and they can enjoy whatever they want.

    Nilla

Everybody handles things differently, and everyone's journey will be different. She was just being truthful about how she was feeling. While in the process of losing weight, our fat cells shrink, which forces out the hormones that are stored there. This is called hormone dumping. This can explain mood swings, irritability, etc. It is perfectly normal to become upset, resentful, angry, or whatever, especially when those you love are sitting around eating whatever they want. The other day, I had to leave my parent's house when the family was gathered because I almost flew into a rage when they ordered pizza. Today, I was crying because I was overwhelmed. How about being a bit more empathetic and supportive of your fellow WLSers.

  13. Hi guys,

Just wondering if there are any sleevers out there having or had surgery done weighing 200lbs and if so, did you lose much from it?

I'm so so scared. I've read loads of good stories on here thank God, but the very few people I have told are really against my decision. My husband is half and half about it. He is paying for my surgery but he is ready to bail at any given moment due to outside influences. I've battled with my weight my whole entire life. Even at the age of 6 I weighed 8 stone. (112lbs) this is the smallest I've been in my whole adult life, but it's coming back and fast!! So I feel this is my last attempt at making myself happy. I know weight loss isn't a magic cure to make you happy, but I'm fortunate enough to have all I want and need, except for being able to look in the mirror without crying and not wearing the clothes I want to wear!

    Thanks to anyone that reads.

    Have a great day

    xxxx

I hate to tell my numbers because too many people do not understand. I will share them with you (and obviously anyone who reads this). My surgery was last Monday. My starting weight was 190, my pre-surgery weight (after 2 week liquid diet to shrink liver) was 180. I have not weighed myself since Friday, at that time I was 178. I know the numbers seem low, but I am only 4'10". The less weight you have to lose, the slower it comes off. According to some charts, it will take me 18 months to get to my goal weight. The decision is hard, don't let anyone else make it for you. Good luck!
