    Pompeii Surgical

It was overwhelming at first. I flew in the day of surgery, got picked up in San Diego, drove to the clinic and immediately started filling out paperwork. I also met with Dr. Quinones before surgery, he speaks perfect English, and answered all of my last minute questions. Unfortunately, my surgery was the last one of the day since I arrived last, so I had a bit of a wait until they got me for surgery. I could have used someone to help calm my nerves. The entire staff was kind, and they always have a translator there, 24/7. My first 24 hrs after surgery was not great. I was constantly nauseated. And I was second guessing my decision. I didn't feel hardly any pain, but that nausea was too much. Turns out, they had me on narcotics for pain and an anti-nausea. Once I realized what they had me on, I asked them to stop the pain meds and only give me anti-nausea. I had a complete turn around after that. I was able to walk around a lot more and even felt up to talking to the other patients. I was able to laugh and smile again, so then I knew everything was going to be alright. My surgery was Nov 21, 2016. I am doing well. Other than how little I eat, I have no other indicators or issues I had surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Q and his staff. Pompeii Surgical

I had my surgery done with him. I highly suggest taking someone with you, they have a sofa and sleeping bag for your guest in your room. They also stay at your hotel the last night. I didn't have anyone with me, and looking back, I wish I had. Sleeve date: 21 Nov 2016 Height: 4'10" SW:190 GW: 125

  5. Good morning. I have a question about some pain I have on the back side of my pelvis, both sides. It seems it is deep, coming from the bone itself. I don't recall doing anything to cause it. I first noticed it two nights ago when I was trying to sleep on my sides. Now I notice it just sitting. Anyone else experience this? I've lost just over 30 pounds but I have plenty of junk in the trunk as a cushion. Sleeve date: 21 Nov 2016 Height: 4'10" SW:190 GW: 125

    Energy?

My energy was depleted, I felt like a zombie some days. Once I was able to eat more Protein and increase my Water intake I slowly started having more energy. It took me about a month and a half to feel my energy levels return, and then some. Sleeve date: 21 Nov 2016 Height: 4'10" SW:190 GW: 125
  7. I wore a semi-snug fitting tank with a loose t-shirt or sweater over it. That worked very well for me. Sleeve date: 21 Nov 2016 Height: 4'10" SW:190 GW: 125

  9. I had my sleeve on 21 Nov 16, I have had nothing but diarrhea several times a day. If I keep this up, I don't think I will be able to stay hydrated. Has anyone else experienced this and what did you do to resolve it? Sent from my SM-T817V using the BariatricPal App
  10. Perhaps you could restart by going on a two-week liquid diet. Protein shakes would be good for that. The best protein source I know is chicken breast. Four ounces (about 113 grams) of chicken breast has 32 grams of protein. If you ate that, or something similar, twice a day, you would be very close to your protein goal of 70 to 90 grams. Have beef or turkey Jerky and cans or pouches of tuna or chicken stashed in your purse or car. Also, hard-boiled eggs make a nice snack. For breakfast, Greek yogurt is really tasty and the kind I get has 12 grams of protein per serving. Two scrambled eggs will get you about 14 grams of protein. Make sure you stop eating carbs like bread, Pasta, rice, and anything with sugar in it. Always eat your protein first, followed by vegetables and fruits. Last thing, be sure you are consuming 64 ounces (about 2 liters) of Water daily. Protein and water, protein and water, protein and water. It's becoming my mantra! Good luck! 11. I did it by myself in Tijuana, Pompeii Surgical. It was a bit different, but the staff was great, very friendly, and they always had a translator available for a couple of the nurses. It can be a tad scary just because I couldn't speak their language. The doctor spoke perfect English, so that put me at ease. I questioned some of their nurse practices because they weren't the same as here. Get off the pain meds as quickly as possible. I was on narcotics and anti-nausea, but the anti-nausea didn't work while I was on narcotics for pain. I asked them to withhold the pain meds and the nausea went away very quickly. I felt very good after that. I haven't had to take any pain meds since. One of the gals there the same day as me was off pain meds 4 hrs after surgery, her recovery went better than mine sine she went off the pain meds so much sooner. I would suggest you bond very quickly with one of the other patients there so you can be each other's support. Good luck and speedy recovery! Sleeve date: 21 Nov 2016 Height: 4'10" SW:190 GW: 125
  12. I did a trial by eliminating things from my diet. Turns out it was the dairy. Apparently, I can't do dairy anymore. I had to go shopping since most of my liquid and soft foods were dairy based. Sleeve date: 21 Nov 2016 Height: 4'10" SW:190 GW: 125

    Pain meds

I was on a narcotic for pain immediately after surgery. This also caused me to have nausea. I asked to be taken off the the narcotics; I had mild discomfort, but no real pain, plus no more nausea. I was able to walk around better and that helped with the gas build-up. I didn't take any additional pain meds afterwards, nor have I since and I am 3 weeks post-op. They sent me home with some non-narco pain meds, but I never had to take them. Also, they didn't need to give me anything to calm down, so I don't know if they even offer something like that. There was a woman there at the same time as me, she was very nervous prior to surgery. The doctor said that it was her choice and she could leave if she wanted to. I don't think they will operate if someone is too nervous or too anxious. By the way, in Mexico, there is no HIPA, so no patient privacy. The staff was so irritated with her, they were talking about her amongst themselves and with the other patients. That is how I know her situation. Plus, she spoke to me a few times. I felt she didn't do enough research prior to her decision, and that is why she was so nervous. Family at the hospital

I had the surgery and was by myself for 4 days at the hospital. The first 36 hours, I was feeling regret because of the pain and nausea. I wasn't able to distract myself at all since the nausea made it impossible for me to even watch TV. I think having someone there who is willing to sacrifice some sleep for your mental well-being would be a good thing. The good news is, as soon as I was off the narcotics for pain, my nausea went away and I was a completely different patient. Just my own personal experience. Good luck to you! 15. I will look into that, thank you. I have a suspicion it's the sweeteners. I didn't do artifical sweeteners until now. Height: 4'10" SW:190 CW:178 GW: 125

  19. Hello everyone! This is my first time posting on a forum of any kind. I want to make sure I am doing things right, and looking for help and support. I have done a lot of things on my own, without success; now I want to give myself the best chance of success by reaching out to others. My two-week pre-op diet ends on Sunday. It has been a real struggle, mostly smelling the foods others are preparing and eating. I also had to help prep for a birthday party, I even had to bake the cupcakes! It was torture the entire time. I really had a tough time taming my urge to eat. The first week of my pre-op I was allowed to eat 4 Oz of lean meat. I tried to teach myself to chew my food more thoroughly than is my tendency. Anyone have any good advice on how to make sure you do this? I know I have a while before I will even be able to consume solids, but this will be one of my bigger issues since I have always been more of a "mash, mash, swallow" type. Another big issue of mine is that I am not very good at prepping. I have a tendency to go for convenience. Any convenient food items you can purchase and stick in your car or purse? That's it for now, wish me luck on Monday! Sent from my SM-T817V using the BariatricPal App
  20. Not to be rude, but you chose to have the surgery, not them. I don't expect my hubby or family adjusting their eating habits for me. I will eat according to my plan and they can enjoy whatever they want. Nilla Everybody handles things differently, and everyone's journey will be different. She was just being truthful about how she was feeling. While in the process of losing weight, our fat cells shrink, which forces out the hormones that are stored there. This is called hormone dumping. This can explain mood swings, irritability, etc. It is perfectly normal to become upset, resentful, angry, or whatever, especially when those you love are sitting around eating whatever they want. The other day, I had to leave my parent's house when the family was gathered because I almost flew into a rage when they ordered pizza. Today, I was crying because I was overwhelmed. How about being a bit more empathetic and supportive of your fellow WLSers. Sent from my SM-T817V using the BariatricPal App
  21. I hate to tell my numbers because too many people do not understand. I will share them with you (and obviously anyone who reads this). My surgery was last Monday. My starting weight was 190, my pre-surgery weight (after 2 week liquid diet to shrink liver) was 180. I have not weighed myself since Friday, at that time I was 178. I know the numbers seem low, but I am only 4'10". The less weight you have to lose, the slower it comes off. According to some charts, it will take me 18 months to get to my goal weight. The decision is hard, don't let anyone else make it for you. Good luck! Sent from my SM-T817V using the BariatricPal App

    Not losing anymore

Also remember, the less you weigh the harder it is to lose weight. It will continue to be so as you lose more and more. Don't get frustrated, be happy when you do lose, even if "only" half a pound. Sent from my SM-T817V using the BariatricPal App
