  1. **Disclaimer ** Tomorrow I am going to reach out to the dietician. I'm 6 weeks (almost 7) post-op and I can't eat much. Tuna sits like a ball and won't move much even following the chew lots, eat slowly, make sure it's not dry routine. Salmon makes me nauseous. I'm a pescetarian so my options for Protein are limited. I've tried Beans but they're high in sodium and carbs. I've tried a little tofu. It does OK but isn't much protein. Lately just about every meal has been 1 egg mixed with 2 oz fat-free greek yogurt with some dill relish and it's not boring yet. (This has all been approved per plan) I mean -- I know it gets better. Guess I'll just keep trying some different things. It's really hard to find a balance with high protein AND low carb AND low calories. And weirdly enough, Water fills me up quicker than anything and then makes me nauseous. My hair is going through a renaissance and I don't want to lose it. I'd like to get myself on the right track so I don't get low in Vitamins and nutrients.
  2. It's like I'm still at puree and intermittently try solids. I like the ricotta bake but I also LOVE cheese. It's almost a trigger food. I have to be very careful with it.
  3. Give it another week or two. I don't know where you're at stage wise with food. I went through a period of intense hunger but it passed. I'm at 6.5 weeks out.

What You Wish Someone Told You Before Surgery

I wish people had told me less to be quite honest with you. But I do wish they had talked more about how to handle family and friend's reactions --especially the negative. People have asked me how I'm losing or why I'm not eating at all or much at all and I haven't been honest. I feel like a fraud. I was expecting nausea, vomiting, smell and taste changes, constant coldness, no hunger, etc. I have only vomited once and it was early on. Everything smells and tastes the same except peppery things. I am very sensitive to hot food at least for right now. Even lemon pepper bothers me and I used to LOVE hot food. I'm average cold; I'm never really freezing or super hot. The scale has moved but my clothes size really hasn't. Water can make you nauseous. Yes. Water. I get hungry but it's a different kind of hunger which will not make a bit of sense until after surgery. I tried to understand it before surgery but you just can't understand it accurately when you've got an abundance of ghrelin I don't think. Some days I'm realllllly hungry and some days I feel no hunger at all. They tend to rotate. You may not feel like a new person immediately. I get tired. I get little aches and pains. I get little asthma flare-ups. I get grumpy. Keep your mind open and remember every day is different. Take it all in stride and remember that you are unique. No two people will have the same experience.
  5. Wow. Your stats are great! I am on omeprazole for 6 months. I supplement with Protein Shakes right now (typically I do a tbsp of PB2, a half cup of Fairlife fat-free, and a scoop of Matrix 2.0. The past few days I have been adding a banana for some variety and I had the calories left for it. Bananas aren't an everyday thing. They didn't give us post-op "goals", if you will. They were super strict pre-op but there have been no calorie or carb limits post-op. I kinda wish they would give me a daily food plan. It was easier that way pre-op. I'm sure if I talked to them they could give me some suggestions but I know they're busy and it's not like I'm having any bad issues.I work with medical offices often and I don't want to bother them. I haven't tried TVP yet. I'm worried about the sodium (I have hypertension) and the effects it may have on me as far as swelling and such. But I have some in the refrigerator from a local company and will try that too. The beans I have tried are canned, but I rinse them before cooking them. Hummus is a great idea and I may add a little bit of unflavored protein to it for a boost. It's rough but I know it will pass and I will miss these days hahaha. Part of this is in my head. They stressed so much "none of that" or "you can't have that" that even with the recommended items I'm just a little nervous like I'm being judged or watched. It's crazy.

Ladies only - IUD or Implant?

IUD. I love it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  7. I had severe GERD. I used to take liquid antacid, Tums, and acid controller plus a daily PPI to deal with it. I had a 4 cm hernia repaired during sleeve surgery and have had no issues since. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Quick question.... Did you know about the hernia prior to surgery or was it found and repaired during surgery? I've heard lots of people say they had hernia repair during surgery and I believe I have one... but wonder if you need pre-authorization to get it repaired during sleeve? Thanks Sent from Dee~Dee via BariatricPal It was found during the EGD. I actually had 2 repaired during surgery. No pre-authorization was needed. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Goal weight?

I didn't set a goal weight or date. I've lost and gained weight significantly at least 3 times. I don't want to set myself up for stress and failure and disappointment. I didn't do this to be a number. I did this to be healthy and to enjoy life. I know many people don't have the same opinion as me and a goal is what best keeps them accountable. 9. I feel the same. It sucks and makes you think that you can't do anything without food or drinks being involved. I have thought several times to myself "I should have pushed this into January 2017." Hindsight is 20/20. I feel you so much. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Shake Question!

Adding to this ----I have tons as well. I probably have a 2 week supply. I'll happily give it away. It haunts me looking at it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Unjustly kicked out!

I'm sorry that happened. You made a choice and it affected you alone. Why others feel the need to make snide remarks is beyond me. Your choice literally had no effect on them. Don't apologize to bullies; it gives them power that is not deserved. Every one makes mistakes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I've never been much for holidays. They're just days to me now. My family kinda does their own thing. Boyfriend and I have no kids. We go to his family. This is not a healthy way to cope but I am an avoider. Large amounts of food and pressure to eat? I'll just stay home. drinks with friends? I pass on the invitation. Trying out a new restaurant? I end up declining. It's worked out ok. I've gotten comfortable declining things and being alone. It sure beats explaining yourself to people that just don't get it. 14. When I woke up from surgery it was the first time in a while I truly felt at peace. Leading up to it, I wasn't sure my boyfriend would stay with me. I avoided family and friends because I internalized alot of my struggles even from those I'm closest to. All the nutrition appointments were in a group setting with alot of people so it's not like I could reach out there. And I'm not sure if you feel the same but I felt like there were so many threats that I was scared to ask questions for fear of cancellation or postponement. I feel your pain more than you know. I'm sure there are others who can relate. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. Is it too late to find someone else? I understand how you feel because I went through something similar. There were some very, very dark days. I wasn't "at goal" 9 days before surgery. I did some unhealthy things and was 2 pounds below the goal at the last weigh in but I had no energy, was depressed, very weak, and felt hopeless. Truly, I really do know how you feel. It gets better!

Have you lost any more weight? Two pounds in nine days seems so little. Sent from my SM-T817V using the BariatricPal App I haven't. I weigh at the clinic because I have troubles with scales and my obsession with a number. I don't look. I just read it on my visit summary. I will weigh again on 11/28. I think I will have lost some. November sleevers?

I asked to join yesterday and have had no response. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Give it a few days. As a reminder: the group may possibly show up in the recommended pages to your friends and family. I did not know that until I joined. I chose not to tell anyone so I had to leave the group. I didn't want to answer questions from people. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Does anyone regret having surgery?

Yes! Yes! Yes! All told I have spent about $3K with insurance. My surgery charges are still processing. That includes Optifast, EGD fees, Vitamins and medicines, an "elective surgery" fee, anesthesia and provider fees, supplements (seriously don't buy many ahead of time and buy sample packs instead), copays, gas to go to the center, times I've had to take off work to go to the center for the bizarre meeting times, and the "program" fee. 19. For me, it's 3 weeks post op and is only for 5 days. But honestly, I can't stomach the thought of puréed anything. I may do baby foods. I can have yogurt as a Protein and will most likely stick with that plus some applesauce. I feel very meh about puréed. I know some people get excited about pureed but I'd rather skip and move to solids and soft veggies. I'm not much of a meat eater. It's salmon or sometimes tuna, if anything. 21. Hi. I was wondering when you all started logging foods via a tracker if you were not given instructions to do so? The nutritionist has not mentioned it being necessary and they pretty much have covered everything I needed to know as I progress through the stages. I'm on full liquids now and starting "pureed" next Thursday. By the following Monday, I will be on solids. They know I have had issues with tracking before and suggested the half veggies/half Protein with a fruit for pre-surgery servings. I currently log amounts of liquid, exercise, protein, and meals on a paper form from the office. I don't track carbs, calories, fats, etc. I suspect I start logging my food at the solids phase as that is my last appointment until February. Though, I'd be cool with not tracking too. I'll ask at my next visit. I may just need to continue to track via the paper form. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Post-op, Time off work

Surgery was on a Thursday. I had a late surgery time so I did a little work that morning. Friday I was off. I was also off the following Monday. I went back to work (from home) on Tuesday. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. I'm almost 2 weeks post op. I expected way more "stomach" pain than the actual random pain I had. No nausea and to this day no vomiting and I was prepared for it but it never came. Gas pain is random and it moves in odd ways. I walked, rested a few hours, walked, and walked. You don't walk because they're telling you to; you do it for comfort. Same with sipping. I thought I wouldn't be able to monitor my gulping but your body accommodates quickly after there is a few times of sipping with pain. It becomes 2nd nature. Post op 24 hours I had pain in random places at different times. I had 2 Dilaudid doses in the hospital. Came home, went to the grocery store with boyfriend, got back home and took a Norco. Then I took one before bed. The next day, I took 2 Norcos (once in the evening and once in the morning.) The following 2 nights I took one Norco at bedtime. The night after that I took Tylenol. I can only give my experience with pain and healing. I was fine a week later less a rash that is almost healed and a slightly twinge-y pain to the right of my belly button. I'm meeting my Protein, Water, meals, and exercise goals. For me, I healed much faster than I expected. You know when you get a cold you only feel slightly better every day? With this, I felt significantly better every day. Best Wishes! You'll do great. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
