    How soon...

The r e was one small and (IMo) flawed study a few years ago that got lots and lots of airtime but there aren't any controlled studies to verify the claim that WLS patients are at a higher risk for alcoholism. How you absorb alcohol depends on genetics not your stomach size. All that being said you need to ask your surgeon how far after surgery you can consume alcohol. My said 8 weeks but I can't even imagine wanting it or wasting calories on it.

    Not losing enough

We didn't gain this weight overnight yet we expect to lose it instantly... just keep telling yourself "I am staying on my prescribed plan so I am losing FAT no matter what the #!?¢& scale says"... Consider donating your scale to Goodwill or at least locking it into the trunk of your car.

    Calories?

I'm the weeks out and in only getting between 300-400 calories a day also. Getting all my protein and liquid in. I lost 10 lbs the first week and unfortunately nothing since. Hopefully things well pick up again soon. Getting a little frustrated seeing people dropping weight like crazy and I'm stuck already. Sent from my SM-S903VL using the BariatricPal App I'm the weeks out and in only getting between 300-400 calories a day also. Getting all my protein and liquid in. Sent from my SM-S903VL using the BariatricPal App I am the same way I was losing weight everyday now I been stuck at 208 for 3 days. I am 11 days post op. Very frustrating I get worried and start thinking what if I don't lose the weight is this surgery really going to work ?!?!? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App If you are staying on your plan you are losing FAT. If the scale s less stresses you out consider not weighing yourself.

    Calories?

I follow my plan and it's between 600 and 800 calories per day, depending on how much fat I consume. For the first few weeks it was much less. You are tried because you are recovering from major surgery. Try adding an extra shake to see if your energy level increases. And try to get rest between periods of activity.
  8. This just doesn't seem right. 6 oz puree a day comes to 60 grams of protein at the most. Are you taking supplements? Where did you have your surgery? Is there a nutritionist in house?
  9. I was walking a 1/2 three times a day in the hospital. Consider that your surgeons printed instructions are given to people when are starting out a significantly higher weights Han you were who are challenged by standing for 15 mins. You (and/or your insurance) paid a boat load of money for your surgery. That $$$ includes follow up care. If you're hungry call the office for help. If you want to increase your activity ask them what YOUR individual limitations are.

    Can I eat crackers?

You can, but you need to consider the need of adding high carb/ non nutritious foods to your diet... for me "Just a few crackers" seems to lead to just one Hershey's kiss pretty quickly.
  11. Women with PCOS need fewer calories to maintain their weight but the same is true for yoyo dieters and most people over 40. So...when all is said and done women with PCOS do just as well after WLS as over half of all the people who have WLS. Lots of research showing that as the weight comes off and and we "thrifty gene" types get more physical active we will lose weight as long as we continue to exercise and stay on plan. The real work comes when we get to the maintenance phase.

Hoping someone can tell me about chia seeds

I mainly use chia to add Fiber to my diet. I find that shakes are more filling when I add them. Nutritional info: https://authoritynutrition.com/foods/chia-seeds/ I grind them in a coffee grinder and add a tablespoon of them to a shake. Soaking them makes them slimy so I just make sure I get 16 oz of liquid. I refrigerate them after grinding. My husband likes the "gel" (1tablespoon chia seeds 9 tablespoons of warm Water makes one serving) he splits it into two. It needs to be refrigerated. China seeds are fairly high in potassium, ~400mg per serving and they will act as a diuretic of you over do it. I got a chia zombie (80% off!) to send to my son who didn't come home for Chanukah because he had better things to do with his winter break.

    Prilosec crushed or not?

Prilosec is time released and should not be crushed. There are other acid reducers that can be crushed but most medications can just be cut into small (pencil eraser size) pieces. My surgeon didn't want me to crush anything, she said it was the "old school" way, but she did changeboth of my time released prescription to equivalent shorter acting meds.

    No deductible?

My total bill for the 6 month pre op classes and 12 office visits (NUT, PT, psychologist, Nurse Practitioner and surgeon) And then there was the sleep study the CPAP machine and lots of labs...surgery, hospital stay, barium swallow and prescriptions. Well over $20,000. total. My portion would have been 25% ($5,000.), but I'd met my max out of pocket for 2016 already. Alas, there will be lots of follow ups for the next year. I'm confused. Are you saying that your insurance covers $1000. of the total hospital stay and $150. of the total surgeons bill? Your max out of pocket is pretty high so you will likely be obligated to pay that much toward your surgery. But you won't need to pay anything in advance or get a loan like people doing self pay ed to do. I suggest that you work out a monthly payment plan for an amount you can manage with the hospital and the surgeon and anesthesiologist as soon as you get your bills. Wait until after your surgery to do this because if you don't they will try to talk you into getting a loan. Even after surgery, they might try this, but DO NOT let them talk you into getting a loan. As long as you make your monthly payments the hospital can't send your account to collections. BTW,I am a hospital administrator who believes that medical care is a human right.
  15. PCOS doesn't slow down weight loss. And 39 pounds in 10 weeks it a lot! You weight goes up and down all the time. If you are following your prescribed food plan you are losing FAT no matter what the scale says. Maybe you can stop weighing yourself every day? Some weeks you might not lose any weight. That is NORMAL. I eat 25 grams of carbs, 90-110 grams of Protein, and as little sugar as possible (just what's in the 8oz of 1% milk I drink a few times a week). I add Fiber ( ground flax seeds) to my Protein shakes, you can also add Benifiber (it's clear and has no flavor) but drink the shake right away of it gets weird. I feel fuller for longer if I add some fiber to the shakes. I don't pay any attention to sodium, but I also don't eat packaged or canned food. Watch out for alcohol sugar (it's often in candy and protein bars) it will stall your weight loss no matter what the labels claim. In my opinion there is such a thing as too much zero calorie (100% chemical) sweeteners.Lots of studies fine that ithey increases hunger. I limit it to one or two packets a day. According to my PT I will get better results working out every second day. I alternate days walking (2miles) and toning/strength training . As for calories, what does your NUT/plan say? If you eat 90 grams of protein and 25grams of low calorie carbs you're eating about 600 calories a day. I eat about 800-900 because, strange as it seems, I wasn't losing much weight and was told by the NUT To increase my calories. Yes, it's normal to get a bit obsessed about your weight. I use a journal to keep track of everything I eat, how much Water I drink, my Vitamins, my blood sugars and exercise. How I explained it to a friend recently is that I have never spent so much time and effort on eating so little food. I want to add that I don't know how old you are, how much you weigh or how active you are. So...keep in mind that the things I do might not be the best for you. Please don't feel like people her are judgmental.

    No protein choice

It's vital the first movie nth as you need Protein to heal the large incision in your stomach. My minimum protein intake was reduced to 80mg at my 3 week check and decreases further as I lose weight till I get to 60mg. But because I limit my carbs to under 25mg a day and I have to eat something right now i have between 90-110 mg of protein a day. I don't monitor my fat intake at all and sometimes add fat (usually olive oil, avocados or nuts and once in a while butter or heavy cream) to my meals. I get 40 of the protein grams from adding unflavored Protein powder to my meals. You should ask your NUT, but my plan never goes below 60 grams a day. An ounce of solid food is about 10 grams.
  17. Try getting a binder for your incision. I wore a compression top for about 4 weeks. It reduced the park n immediately.
  18. I was on 90-60-30 mg a day for 3 weeks at about 2 weeks post op. I gained lots of fluid weight but wasn't at all hungry and so stayed on plan. Lost fluid retention weight plus 6 pounds of fat within a week of finishing the prednisone.
  19. This is what I do: Hunger- start an activity and reassess in 15 minutes. I find that I have a hrd time distinguishing between idle time and hunger. Fullness- this is tricky. I find that measuring my food and not having more than 4 oz on my plate (3:1 / protein:carbs) helps. At first it was just 2ozs. I use a tiny spoon and fork and eat very slowly. Chew everything, keep food in my mouth. Learning to SAVOR. It takes me 15-20 minutes to finish my small meals. If eat slowly enough I will feel satisfied before I empty my plate. Pain: pain (and nausea and burping and sweating) means I over ate. It only took once for me to know that I never want to fell that awful again, and it was just one or two bites more that I should have had. You might want to thin Greek yogurt for a while. It's really big sticky lump of food.
  20. I've watched a few episodes but mostly I just want to slap the stupid out of the families. Can't watch hoarders either.
