  1. You are going to get a lot of responses for him. I went to him and my experience was awesome. He and the hospital staff were the best. The care was better than state side. I had no complications and I work with 3 other patients of his. All of us are very happy! Make sure to talk to the Coordinator, Bill.

  2. Something I have learned is that each person is different. I went to Dr. Illan and had a wonderful experience, no nausea or pains. I was up and moving very shortly after surgery. I tried to get up immediately, but they made me wait. Now, my surgery sister next door was throwing up all night. She got meds to help...but this is highlighting some of the differences.

I was told a lifting limit of 10lbs for a few weeks. So, having a toddler might be tough. There are others who have done that and been fine. As soon as i was out of the hospital, I was on the move. I never really struggled with the recovery. However. I have no kids, just large dogs.

The deposit was $500 and the balance was due prior to surgery.

  3. Sleeved 2/7/17. I have never had acid wake me up or had issues in the past. But last night after a long, stressful conversatation, I at dinner at 11:30pm (chicken and a little jello). I went to bed at midnight only to wake up at 1:30 to the burning sensation and coughing up some dinner.

Don't think I'll do that again! Stop eating 2 hours at minimum before bed. Luckily a little liquid antacid and I was back in bed asleep minutes later...

  4. For about a year after surgery I counted total carbs. I did that because anything that didn't count as a net carb, (Fiber and sugar alcohol) was likely to screw with my stomach and I wanted to avoid it anyway. Now that I am in maintenance mode, (2.5 years post op) I watch the total carb count, but only count net carbs. Whether I am counting it or not, I still like to know exactly what I'm eating.

    Thanks SuperDave

  5. I'm in Orlando and Dr Jawad did my GB on Feb 7th. Best decision ever. 5 weeks post open 25 lbs down. We should form in Orlando support group and meet somewhere at a Starbucks or Barnes & Nobles for 30 minutes to an hour for some coffee and discussion.

There was a post about the central Floridians getting together.

  6. For the cash pay people what was your average timeline from your first appointment until surgery?

That depended on where I was going. I started in my hometown and had a list of prechecks to complete...ekg, blood work, abdominal ultrasound, etc. It depends on how quickly you can get that completed.

I switched to Dr Illan in Tijuana, MX and was there in 2 weeks. Testing (ekg, blood, chest xray) completed same day as surgery.

  7. I went to Dr Illan. While he is very good, I still wanted to protect my wallet, house, etc from the unknown. So I bought medical insurance to cover complications up to 6 months after the sleeve. It doesn't pay it all but it would reimburse for a portion of it.
