  7. Ok....since I am self pay for surgery, I am looking for assistance in the total cost. My insurance through work has WLS specifically excluded. However, I can purchase supplemental Hospital Indemnity insurance which is suppose to cover services not covered in my group health coverage. This is suppose to cut some costs of the hospital stay and even surgery costs. Has anybody done this and was it a substantial savings? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  8. Before you get your heart set on it, check with your insurance to see if it is covered. I was all set to pay the deductible but then found out my insurance didn't cover. I am going plan B as a self pay. I met with my PCP and got a referral prior to knowing that my employer excluded bariatric surgeries from my insurance...even when deemed "medically necessary" I am meeting the surgeon this week at his seminar and will move forward from there. 9. Congrats! I can't wait, as I just started my journey....but 1st...I am headed to Australia (NZ to run a half marathon, Caines, Sydney and Melbourne) Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  10. Not sure how to word this. How many sleevers have had no issues with any kinds of food, indigestion, heartburnd, GERD, etc. pre-op and remained the same post-op? I've never struggled with anything like that but wanted to know the possibility of these afterwards. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  11. I called my insurance company after chatting with my DR to see about a gastric surgery. I was told it was a specific exclusion in my policy...not even if deemed medically necessary. So, am I out of luck for any coverage? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    Insurance exclusion

Absolutely not true. My policy through work covered my VSG in 2014 and my current policy covered my revision to RNY in July which was needed due to severe GERD. So your statement is 100% false. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Please understand that the word "MY" was missing from the post. All policies MY work offers has it excluded. Insurance exclusion

Sorry, I meant to say MY insurance...all levels offered, exclude and bariatric surgery and weight loss programs. What adds insult to injury is that since my company was been bought out, 3 years ago, I started to work even longer hours, stopped working out regularly, resulting in gaining 65lbs over that time......and then they dont cover anything to help reverse the damage. Luckily, things have been settling more and I am back to trying to regain my life. I was obese before being bought out...but this just made it worse.

All work policies exclude this. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  16. I am in the early stages. But I have come to the conclusion that if your insurance covers, depending on your insurance, anywhere from 3 months to close to a year. Average 6-8 months. If self pay, like me, it is much shorter. But the pocketbook hurts. Call the ins company and see if your plan covers or of it is a specific exclusion by your employer, ins company, etc. My SIL said a lot of ins companies are not covering it due to the lack of success rate. I don't get that feeling on here....but still have to live with my insurance exclusion. Good luck! Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
  17. I am self pay, so I'll ask at my appt next week. Since the gallbladder isn't required, I'd rather get it removed if it is likely it will become an issue later. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

    Self Pay in the U.S.

For me, this is important as well. I have been researching the Dr. I am looking at. I am also lucky my sister is a nurse anesthestitist in the hospital. She gave me a "thumbs up" the Dr. I am going to see is really good. Also, she can get one of her friends scheduled on my case. Just a little added comfort. IMO...I was thinking about staying in town, near the Dr for the rest of the week. What are your opinions? How many appts did you have with your surgeon post-op? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App
