  1. Make sure you are eating enough! There is an app on this site called MyFitnessPal and it helps you keep track of all your food and water. It has helped a lot of people. If you are not eating enough or the wrong foods, you see it!

    Any Long-Timers here

Hi, I had my RNY in May of 2014 and as of now lost 120 lbs. I'm also from Canada!! I have regained 8 lbs recently so am being careful to log all that I eat. My problem is that I have never exercised and need to start doing that to lose that last 20 lbs!!
  4. Okay, this is a very dangerous site!! I just ordered an Instant Pot and an Air Fryer!! Both of which I had never heard of before or else they are called something different in Canada!! Can't wait to try them both and can't wait to try to find space for them!! lol

It seemed like a good idea at the time...

I learned that you can't even reheat eggs in the microwave without BOOM!

    The incredible Mr Limp-with-it

Please tell me where I can get these at. I also have FIBRO Yes, please tell us all! And the full name, I'm in Canada!
  7. It's the same mindset of those times you told yourself that the next day you will start a diet. You wake up absolutely starving!! Just your mind saying NOOOOO, I want all the good, delicious, bad for me food!!

Do you love your Fitbit ?

I notice that 10,000 steps are mentioned frequently and could you tell me the significance of 10,000 steps?
  9. I take Paxil 3 times a day, Wellbutrin and Abilify. I had RNY and it did not affect my medications at all.
  10. Thank you everyone, I reduced my coffee, increased my Water and my sodium and my legs are so much better after suffering for a year!! I have two servings of chicken broth and all of this has made a world of difference!!
  11. I've been tracking everything I eat and drink with the food Diary App on this site and I have noticed that I never get near to having the recommended serving of sodium. Is it possible to have too little sodium?? I'm constantly tired, or rather no energy, and my legs ache all the time. Someone on this site suggested I cut back on coffee, which I did and as a result am drinking about 10 glasses of Water a day which means I'm not dehydrated as someone else suggested.

No, it's from the gas they fill you up with to do the surgery! Heating pad!
  13. I had RNY May 2014. I actually regained 8 lbs recently and am working to get that off!!
  14. That does explain a lot!! My doctor probably assumed I still used a lot of salt because I had high blood pressure before my surgery. I cook with salt but don't add salt to my plate, only pepper!! I thought I was doing the right thing but I noticed I am only having about a quarter of the recommended allowance. My legs didn't ache like this before I lost all this weight!! Thank you for taking the time to explain it to me!!
  15. I read your story with interest and more than a little sadness. I was one of those people that looked at fat people with disdain and lack of compassion. I was underweight my whole life until I got pregnant at 18 and gained 60 pounds. But within 2 years, I lost that weight with no effort on my part and was now near normal. I was still underweight but at a more eye pleasing level. I was considered pretty, even beautiful at times! I enjoyed the attention and perks that my looks brought to me without even knowing it. Then a series of life altering events changed all of that. My only son became addicted to coke and crack. My mother died, my best friend and boss died at age 48 suddenly. Which meant I also lost my job, all within a year!! I also went into early menopause. I bought the business and proceeded to work 18 hours a day for 5 years until my business burned to the ground. I barely made it out alive and lost all of my pets in the fire. By then I had ballooned to 282 pounds. What I did learn during that time is how much different people treat you based on your looks. Some may say how I was treated was Karma because of my previous feelings about overweight people, but I was never mean, never verbalized my thoughts. Other people are not so kind or circumspect!! Except for my son and one sister, I told no one about my surgery because I did think I was taking the easy way out!! It's hard now, when people who treated me differently when I was fat, are suddenly nice and attentive to me once again. Anyone who says that there is no such think as fat shaming, has never been on both sides of the fence. My doctor had told me I would die without the surgery because I had diabetes, high blood pressure, heart problems along with chronic, severe back pain. I also suffer from chronic depression. I'm a mess but I'm still here!! If someone had told me that I would still be alive now, I would have laughed in their face!! My son is clean and sober now and I am of a normal weight. It's no problem for me to realize I'm not fat because I was "normal" for way longer than fat, my problem was always seeing that fat person in the mirror and being taken aback that that person was me!! I guess all any of us can do is keep on going and enjoying all the little gifts and victories that come with being a healthy weight. The last person that told me how good I looked and how fat I had gotten, I answered him with, "Really??? I hadn't noticed!! Thanks for letting me know cause then I would have lost all that weight sooner! I wish I would have had a mirror, you should have said something!", the look on his face was priceless!

    Stalling

Actually, I'm 64 and two and a half years out, I lost 120 pounds and didn't have much sag. Except for the boobs of course, but they were always a bit droopy!!

    Dairy

I had RNY and became lactose intolerant. Apparently it is a common side effect.

    Smoking

I wish you were getting more support from your mom but it is up to you!! With that food in the house, the munchies won't help!! I am 2 1/2 yrs out and have to buy food for my son, who eats, and eats, and eats!! Also has the munchies like you!! My grand-daughter is here every weekend and eats and eats!! Tonight I had to make her pudding but I do it! Recently I regained 8 pounds so I started on the food tracker that is available on this site and making sure to drink my water! You can do this, just be positive!
  20. You had the very best of intentions and I appreciated a man's view!!
  21. I've suffered from severe depression since I was 15 years old. I was "normal" weight until I hit 50 and a succession of events contributed to a lot of weight gain. I had RNY and it has not affected my medication at all. Did surgery "cure" my depression? Not at all!! But I am at least physically healthier and can get around better!! One less thing I have to worry about!! My diabetes is gone, my high blood pressure is normal and they fixed my hernia. Don't let anyone tell you what you should do!! Only my son and one sister knows I had the surgery for the very reason that I didn't want the judgement or listen to the negativity!! Good luck!! To thine own self be true!!
  22. I always say I'm dieting and the doctor gave me a healthy diet so I ate before I came!!

    Pain

For pain that has lasted that long, even if you have overeaten, I would go and get it looked at!! There could be something else going on. Are you having any problems going to the bathroom before this? The only time I had pain is when I was badly constipated or before I realized the RNY made me lactose intolerant!
