Jitters, in need of positive words

Hazel_eyez you will be fine. You made this choice because only you have to live with the health issues that you are facing. You know what's best for you. Don't second guess your decision. This was one of the reasons why I didn't tell many about getting the surgery. I did not want to hear anything negative. Remember why you are doing this. You are doing this to better your health. The vsg surgery was my second surgery I ever had. The first one was on my right shoulder. I had the same fears but everything went smoothly and I woke up. Believe me when the anesthesia Doc gives you a little mixture before going in for surgery it will relax you and take away your anxiety. I told myself I just can't give up now because I've come too far from where I started from. So I say the same to you. You just can't give up now, you've come to far from where you started from. I had surgery on Nov 1st.

    Overeating

I did the same thing. I gained 8 pounds after my first weigh in with my doctor. They told me I had to maintain my initial weight or lose some weight but that I couldn't gain any. It was hard but I realized food is food. It will always be there. It will never go away. I had moments when I was in the liquid diet preoperative phase that I would panic but I kept telling myself that it's only food. It will always be there. I had to mentally tell myself that I'm ok and not to panic. I stuck to low carb eating to lose the 8 pounds prior to preoperative liquid diet. What I did was weigh myself everyday to keep myself accountable and to make sure I at least maintained my weight. Some people will say weighing eat day is obsessive but I don't see it that way. It helped me stay in check. If the number went up, I would look at what I ate the previous day and make an adjustment to not eat the same thing for the next day. It worked for me.

    Help me):

I went through that for my first 3 weeks. I would swallow but right when it hit my stomach it would hurt then go away. It only bothered me when it was cold stuff. Hot stuff or room temperature never gave me this problem. I was told by my RN this is normal. It's swollen tissue that has to heal. No medication can treat it. So I started pinching my ear lobe when it would happen to help with the pain. As for the protein shakes if it makes you vomit don't drink it. You need to find something that you can tolerate for now. Try chicken broth, jello, or yogurt if your on full liquids. Oikos Triple Zero yogurt has 15 grams of protein. At least if you can tolerate yogurt you can get your protein in. Listen to your body. If you vomit something it means your stomach can't tolerate it right now.
  9. Hello, I'm on week 4 Post Op pureed foods and I'm nervous about Thanksgiving dinner. I'm finding myself upset that I won't be able to enjoy the usual foods I eat on Thanksgiving. Thankfully, I don't have to host this year but my mother is cooking and I love her food. It's going to be a challenge since I'm not able to eat what everyone else will be eating. I'm going to at least get some turkey with gravy and bring mash potatoes I will make only for myself. I think it would be easier if I could do soft foods but that's not until week 5 post op. Anyone have any other pureed food suggestions on what else I could eat for Thanksgiving dinner? Anyone else having to deal with the same challenge of eating pureed on Thanksgiving?
  10. Amazing!! Congrats on your journey!!
  11. I have 4 more days to be on liquids and full liquids. I'm getting so bored with the full liquids yogurt, cream soups, jello, pudding. Anyone have any full liquid ideas that would help make it more creative for me to eat??? I pray I can move to pureed next week. I have so many Pinterest ideas for pureed foods I can hardly wait to try them out.

    Getting Bored with Full Liqiuds

Peanut butter is not on my full liquids list. I wouldn't use it. I'm just a stick to the plan person because there is reason why it's not on the full liquids list. What is keeping me focused is that I don't want to cause damage to my healing sleeve like a leak or any other possible issue that could arise. Plus, I have noticed a change in how I look at food while I've been on full liquids. I would suggest asking your Nutritionist or Dr/RN. In my opinion though don't have peanut butter.

    Getting Bored with Full Liqiuds

No need to be nervous. All will be well. It's just part of the process. I'm just thankful I have 4 days left.

    Vitamins post op

Yes: Generally Calcium, B Complex, B12, Multivitamins with Iron. I say generally because it depends on your nutrient levels that may require more vitamins. Usually blood work is done to check them and make sure you are not low in other nutrients like Vitamin D or Potassium.

    Lovaquan shots

Just finished my Lovanox shots today. It's real easy. The nurse taught me how to do it right. I had to put the shot to my up side thighs. Getting the needle in was easy but when you inject it at some point it has a burn/stinging sensation. Then it goes away when the injection is done.
  16. Hello, I had my surgery on Nov 1st. I was only suppose to stay overnight in the hospital for 1 night but that turned into 2 nights due to the fact that I couldn't keep anything down and my potassium level was low. I am now home and I am doing the best I can to take in the minimum of 50 ounces of liquid but I have not been successful at it. The most I have done is 28 ounces in one day. The reason why is I am experiencing a lot of pain when ever I swallow the liquid and it hits the top of my stomach and causes me to be in so much pain. Then it passes once it enters my stomach and I feel fine after that. Has anyone experienced this? I have been taking Prilosec for reflux etc which had helped but I still have this horrible pain. It's definitely not a swallowing issue because it goes down my esophagus easily but its when it passes from my esophagus into my stomach. This is the best way to describe it. It's so frustrating because it hurts so bad. It is worse when it's with cold liquid versus warm. I go for my one week follow up on this Tuesday. Anyone have advice on what this could be?

Day 6 Post Op: Having Difficulty

Just a follow up...my RN told me what I am experiencing is normal. My stomach just needs to heal. It is swollen tissue. So all is well I just have to tolerate the pain until it heals.
  18. Hi Hopeful16, take a deep breath and exhale. All will be fine. Stay positive. I had vsg surgery last Tuesday so I am officially 1 week post op. Honestly, I had tons of thoughts the hours leading up to surgery and even while I was being prepped before surgery and I asked myself do I want to do this. I thought about the process and how long it took for me to get there. I told myself no regrets and that I came too far to turn around and not proceed. So I had the surgery. Believe me once you have the surgery you will not be focused on all these questions. You will be more concerned about healing, getting fluids in, and learning what your sleeve can tolerate. As far as pain, it's more of a soreness and achy feeling in the abdominal area. It hurts to laugh, cough, and sneeze. I still can't pick things up off the floor. Gas is probably the worse pain you will deal with. I just woke up this morning with it really bad but with massage and heat I was able to release it. I know you mentioned about you and your husband wanting a child. I did this partly because I didn't want to be overweight and pregnant. I want to lose all the weight I need to and then have kids. Yes, my research has said that this surgery will make it easier for one to get pregnant. Of course that is all about timing . For me I look at this as taking one step at a time. Setting goals can definitely help keep your thoughts at peace. Having a baby is a goal in this process. But to be honest after just having the surgery I really can't think about that right now. As for what people are going to say, I only told a few people within my circle that know me and will support me for sure. I have the same thoughts and concerns that's why I didn't tell anyone on my job except my supervisor. I didn't even tell my grandmother. Only my parents, sister and brother in law, husband and mother in law know. I did this because I didn't want any negativity. Come to find out my mother in law was negative about it and made a horrible comment but I learned my lesson and I will prove her wrong about her perception. The good part about this journey is that you can choose who you want to know about it or not. Your business is your business. It's been challenging so far but I don't regret it. I've lost 10 pounds since surgery. I am exactly 100 pounds from my goal. You will be fine and the surgery will be successful! I promise you after the surgery you will only be worried about getting in your fluids, vitamins, and protein. If you focus on these three key requirements you will be successful and lose the weight.

    BURPING!

I agree. It's most likely trapped air. I have the feeling of belching for relief but it never is a full belch.

    I done screwed up ya'll

8 pounds is doable in two weeks. If you keep it very low carb.

    I done screwed up ya'll

Drink 5-6 Atkins Advantage shakes that have only 2 net carbs I believe. Drink 64 ounces of Water. I did this for 7 days before my surgery and lost 10 pounds.
