JHDR reacted to 111 in Anybody else on liquids only for tomorrow (Thanksgiving)?
A little over 1 week out too. I'll be on liquids for 4 weeks. I'll be having Protein chicken broth for Thanksgiving tomorrow. I look at it this way: I'm sacrificing one holiday season (food wise) to have many more than what I would have if I did not go through with the surgery.

JHDR reacted to Bufflehead in Conflicting Nutrition Information - Whey Isolate
I think Premier used to be whey isolate a while back and they changed the formula. Perhaps the info with acceptable drinks was put together a while ago and no one knew about the change or bothered to update it?
Anyway, I know many people who drank primarily whey concentrate and did just fine. Yes, whey isolate is absorbed better by the body, but when I looked at the actual numbers for my own research, the difference didn't seem that great to me. It's not like whey concentrate is useless, it's just not quite as good as whey isolate (especially if you are lactose intolerant).
I did about 50/50 isolate and concentrate when I was in weight loss mode and I lost all my weight (200+ lbs) and never suffered from any sort of Protein deficiency or ill health. Tons of people here drink Premier Protein too! I think you will do just fine.

I'm someone who feels better when I am planning ahead. I do this with almost every aspect of my life. This works well when I am feeling down, as well.
Plan your meals for the week, better yet, meal prep! Try to make them high Protein and low carb like you'll be eating post op.
Maybe make a list of non-scale victories that you're excited to reach.
I have tons of clothes from all different sizes, so one day I organized all the clothes. I make a throw out (too torn up to donate), a donate pile (things that are good but I wouldn't personally enjoy wearing again), and clothes to keep, which I organized by size.
Sorry for all the examples, but basically I feel like planning things out that will move you closer to your goals will make you feel better.

I was sleeved on the same day as you!! I think with the Jello, you have to make sure you chew it up a lot before you swallow -- turning it to liquid instead of just swallowing bites of it. That works for me really well. As for the shake, just make sure to take really small sips, I think? Or, alternately, make your shake and then leave it in the fridge for 20 min before you drink it, allowing the air to escape from the bubbles, since probably the thing that's causing you pain is the trapped bubbles~

Stay strong. This is about you and not them. Don't let people talk you down. She doesn't know your everyday struggle with being obese. And the hurdles you go through every day.
People are entitled to mind their own business! It's strange how she could go behind your back and being so judgemental. Im sorry i see that as jealousy and not 'concern'.
Obviously she would wanted you to stay fat so she could be the skinny on. Now you are on board and she feels threatend by you.
Go get it girl. And don't let anybody decide what's best for you.
    Hope you are well.

I have luckily been greeted with almost all supportive responses. My sister-in-law was the only one with a negative response and it was to my husband in privacy, not to me. She made the comment that she couldn't support what I was doing. Now...she is also 100# soaking wet so I am sure she can't possibly understand. I know what she said came out of a place of concern, not menace, however it still hurt my feelings.
I have gone through the entire process saying not another word about my journey to her or my brother (even though my brother was quite supportive). I wanted to be spiteful and have the surgery (scheduled for 11/29) and by the time I see them at Christmas, hopefully be feeling better and starting to see some loss and be like "surprise!" Now that I am closing in on surgery day, I have decided to tell them about it, if for nothing else, to have the extra prayers as I undergo the surgery and begin this new road on my journey.
I feel that everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that. I have NEVER lived my life based on what other people liked or thought, and I certainly am not going to start now. It took a lot of soul-searching for me to get to the place where I admitted I needed to do this because I can't lose the weight on my own and I am ready for my new & improved self.
Good luck to you and remember - we are doing this for US and not for anyone else.

Great questions. First, I would say if you haven't already, find a good eating disorder therapist to work with. That has made all the difference for me. In my teen years and early in adulthood I struggled with anorexia and got very, very thin. Then after having children and being "forced" in some ways to have to gain weight for the pregnancies, I kind of swung in the other direction and developed binge eating disorder, which let me to the sleeve surgery. After surgery the weight flew off and the constant counting of calories, carbs, Proteins, etc. along with the rapid weight loss really reignited those obsessive thoughts about food and I found myself struggling again with anorexia.
For me, it wasn't until I began therapy at 10 months post op and 38 years old that I realized I ever even had any eating disorder at all, let alone one that consumed so much of my time, energy, and thoughts. Therapy really helped me to identify the behaviors and naming them in some way really helped. I've been able to focus on the "why" of my eating issues and that has made all the difference in the long term success. I didn't need someone telling me "what" to eat. I'd been on so many diets I could have been a nutritionist...lol. What I needed to understand was why I was sabotaging myself.
So, that was a lengthy answer, but my take-away would be that it is GREAT that you are asking these questions right now. I think going into the surgery already knowing some of these things would have been SO good for me. I think if you go into it knowing yourself, knowing you have that history and really working with someone to help you stay in check if those behaviors start resurfacing you will be really successful! Good luck to you!

I do think that many times those who post have more challenges than those who don't. I am only two days out of surgery which seems to be the time people feel the most challenges and thus far things are fine...sore, sure. Nausea ... after surgery. Hungry? I am .... but not out of control. Just getting ready to embrace this new life. Conversely, thus is the third time I started the process ..... I just wasn't ready before. Listen to all experiences with a grain of salt and make the best choices for you and your life. Trust yourself as opposed to all of us....

Nutrition for dummies if you want an academic look into nutrients.
Google protien sources. You can educate yourself on things then talk to your nutritionist or Dr to make sure you are keeping in line.
Read your labels. You can learn a lot from the nutrient breakdown and ingredients. If you don't know what you are looking at, Google it. Obviously not everything is correct on the Internet but it's a start. If your local community college has a Nutrition class, take it. Our's has community based classes that only cost 25-70 dollars and runs 6-8 weeks. It's a non credit course but you can learn a lot.
My favorite thing to do is Pintrest my meals. Then for the not healthy ingredients I good replacements for it. Or I search for skinny version of whatever.
You can still have a lot of fun making and enjoying food. Last night I made PFChangs chicken lettuce wraps with roasted honey garlic cauliflower . Sooo yummy.
Don't get stuck in a box of eating an egg for bfast, shake for lunch, fruit or veggies for snack, and fish or chicken for dinner. (Unless you like routine) try new things.

I agree with Bufflehead. I'm 6 years out and I basically eat portions that are considered normal. (Not normal by typical US standards, but normal by nutritional standards). My portions are slightly smaller than my "normal size" friends, due to my restriction, but what I lack in volume I make up in frequency, so at the end of the day I probably take in the same amount.
More dramatic than my portion sizes has been the types of food I eat. WAY less non-nutritive carb heavy "wasted calories", and WAY more healthy foods that contain the nutrients my body needs, not the junk my head may want. Yes, I do sometimes indulge in what I consider my "emotional foods", but never to an extent that compromises my health or weight maintenance.
You will likely experience a period of severe restriction immediately postop. The portions you eat will be scary small and your parents may freak out. But you will progress past this to a point of being able to eat more than enough to nourish your body. (If you make healthy choices)

You will end up eating the portions that most people should be eating anyway. Smaller than the gigantic heaps and platters of food served at an American restaurant -- but normal in many parts of the world!
3 ounces is considered a standard serving size of chicken, what people *should* be eating by nutritional experts.
3 ounces of chicken is right around what you will end up eating -- not immediately post-op, but eventually. This is just an example of course. Most people in the US (your profile doesn't say where you are from) are either overweight or obese. Most people eat too much food. You will eat healthy amounts of food, not giant platters or chowing down on endless refills at a buffet -- and that is a good thing.
I do not find it challenging in the least to meet my nutritional needs 3.5 years post op. I try to focus on healthy foods and not fill up on crap with no nutritional value. As long as you focus on healthy foods, you will be fine.
