GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +
xoxococojay replied to Frustr8's topic in The Gals' Room
It's the same journey regardless. Just some bigger people are able to lose a lot more faster in the beginning. Other than that there's no difference. -
To tell coworkers or not?
xoxococojay replied to Trash_Panda's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nooooo! Don't tell. You didn't tell them you were fat so don't tell them you're not. I've had co workers analyze what im eating or not eating and ask me to many questions. I've even had super supportive co workers get on my nerves with silly nicknames or tell me im getting to thin etc. let them mind their own business for your own peace of mind. -
Oh no to clarify i know it has carbs- i just don't care because the only time i eat them is when i put it in halo top ice cream as a rare treat. ( to me it just taste better than all the other ones i've tried) I don't eat protein bars regularly, most of them taste awful to me, but whatever works for anyone else works too.

Let's Play Another Round of "How Much Am I Eating Now?"
xoxococojay replied to FluffyChix's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Not quite a year and a half out. I was sleeved and i only do 3 meals per day ( maybe one snack if i've been working out like crazy) and each meal is only 3-4 oz. only because snacking is what made me fat in the first place. Very very low carb, still. Typical breakfast is kind of boring just because i never used to eat breakfast ever. So i stick to only a few options and rotate, plus i'm lazy. - breakfast parfait (0% fat greek yogurt, added 1 scoop of gnc vanilla whey, top with berries of my choice. - green smoothie -whey protein with caramel flavored coffee - protein shake -crustless quiche - eggs and avocados or eggs and 1 piece of bacon Lunches and dinners i meal prep and because i cook everything that's where i tend to get more creative. I'll make whatever as long as it's low carb. Pinterest has tons of great ideas. I meal prep ahead of time to save me time. Snacks: (if ever) - parmesean crips - protein chips -sugar free jello pudding - smoked almonds or sweet thai chili and dried cranberries -jerky or duke's smoked shorty sasuages - deli meat and cheese - spicy pork rinds - halo top ice cream - greek yogurt - hummus - guacamole -cranberry almond chicken salad (costco) Even though i can eyeball stuff- i still measure and pre portion. I don't ever want to get in the habit of eating slider foods or over eating when im not actually hungry. -
Oh well first off good luck. Treat this just like you would anything else personal. Don't tell him just like you would never mention any of your exes on the first date either. Order light, like an appetizer, salad, soup or side dishes and tell him straight up, you're not a big eater and you're not that hungry. He won't think anything is odd if you handle it that way.

Most protein bars are secretly loaded with carbs and sugars. And most taste crappy. But i like the taste of pure protein bars. I actually recently used their cookies and cream flavor and broke it up and added it to halo top cookie dough ice cream for a treat. It was awesome and low calorie.

High Protein Snack Foods
xoxococojay replied to Orchids&Dragons's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I found Parmesan crips at whole foods in the specialty cheese section. I use them as chips and eat it with hummus, guac, bean dip etc. All my other high protein snacks are a bit boring after awhile like...smokehouse or sweet thai chili almonds and dried cranberries, spicy pork cracklins, jack links prime rib jerky, quest protein chips, salami/pepperoni and cheese -
Any newbies struggling to get all their protein in?
xoxococojay posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm not a newbie by any means but lately i'm going through a phase where i just don't want to see food. So i had to think of ways to maximize the amount of protein in each meal. I would love to see what everyone else does, i think it would help lots of us. Disclaimer: my ideas aren't exactly new. They're just new to me lol. Feel free to add any other suggestions. -
Any newbies struggling to get all their protein in?
xoxococojay replied to xoxococojay's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
One thing i tried that i love are breakfast parfait's. I use fage 0% fat plain greek (taste awful by itself, it's very tart) and i add a scoop of gnc vanilla protein to it. And top it with my favorite berries. (If you want to add rolled oats on top for a granola like effect knock yourself out) -instant 45g of protein right there. -premier caramel a scoop of any flavor protein powder and caramel flavored coffee - instant 50g of protein - i've added genepro to sauces, dressings etc I've done fruit flavored greek yogurt mixed with any ready to drink protein and blended it with berries and ice for about 50g of protein. -loco moco over cauliflower rice (pinterest) using 93% lean ground beef, 1 egg and a few tbs of egg whites. (Almost 50g of protein) I'll add as i think of other things i've done recently. -
Well i'm the self proclaimed purse queen, so i shove one of my many big ass purses with food lol. I'm so serious- i've brought in jerky, sugar free jello pudding, nuts, protein chips, salads etc. you name it i've done it. I had surgery awhile ago so i have occasionally had popcorn since but even that i made my own mini bag and brought it. It made no sense for me to pay $9 for crappy popcorn when i can only eat a few spoonfuls.

Holy shit...what do i do?
xoxococojay replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I hope everyone that commented see's this. Thank you all so much for making me feel better. You all gave great advice. I really love this group, it's one of the few places where i feel safe to discuss my journey and all the stuff that comes along with it. Thank you all, you're awesome! So i was sleeved in december of 2016, and i'm very very private about my journey. (For all kinds of reasons i want credit for all the work i'm putting in and i just don't want negativity or judgement around me.) But i'm in multiple groups online because i genuinely like helping other people through their journey. So a former friend found me in one of those groups and outed me, and now i'm humiliated. I'm not at all ashamed of my surgery, but i just feel like it's my business to tell and she's honestly the last person i would ever trust anyway. (She's known for doing horrible a*****e-ish things lol) So now what do i do? How did you handle that if someone has ever done that to you? I'm honestly trying to just get over it, but it's easier said than done.

Has anyone ever started out doing keto and then switching back to a more traditional bariatric plan? Did your body adjust easily or did you gain weight? Just to clarify- i don't mean going from keto to eating pizza and french fries all day. But i do mean transitioning from the keto diet to a lower fat, higher protein, low good carb (such as fruits, veggies including starchy veggies and beans) lifestyle.
-
Thanks! I definitely will.
-
That's exactly how i eat too!! I did keto for a few months just as an experiment to see if it really works and it does, but i love fruit, and everything else you mentioned, and overall i just feel better when i eat the way i was before (even if the weight loss is slower) Plus the idea of cutting out multiple healthy food groups forever seems like i might have deficiency issues later on with certain nutrients.
-
Totally forgot to ask you this- when you stop, should you stop cold turkey and do low fat everything? Or should you slowly ease your way back into lower fat items? Or does it not even matter what order you do things? The foods im most concerned with are fruits, beans and squash.
-
I totally get that, that's actually how i feel. Keto is fun because i basically eat crap and still lose weight, but i prefer the other low carb way of life, it's less restrictive. And somedays i just crave things like protein packed fruit smoothies and keto doesn't allow for things like that, or spaghetti squash dishes.
-
Thank you for that. You clarified a lot of my concerns.

How many of you still eat good complex carbs and have never regained? Which ones do you eat (personally i'm terrified to experiment with this on my own so i'd rather ask others) Good complex carbs- Brown rice Oatmeal Yams Sweet potatoes Beans Starchy fruits Etc. How much of them do you eat?

for you successful people, 1 year out or more - what mistakes did you make?
xoxococojay replied to indacrucible's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Eating and drinking at the same time- to this day that still feels like death. Tasting certain unhealthy foods (carbs and sugars) because you honestly dont want it anymore but once you take that bite it's all down hill from there. Then your mind starts to want more. Biggest mistake of all though is comparing my journey to anyone else. I'm realizing this a year later, i may not have lost weight as fast as others but i still lost a ton. Comparing your journey to someone else only adds unnecessary stress. -

What are some of your best tips for success?
xoxococojay replied to xoxococojay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll go first...my biggest obstacle was cravings. It was mental. So i started planning my meals to accommodate them so i never felt deprived. For example: there are days when i really really want sweets, so i'll make sure i include either fruit or a chocolate protein shake or fruit smoothie or something to fill that craving. If i'm craving salty i'll do deli meat and cheese as one of my snacks or smokehouse almonds. I also googled what cravings really mean and made adjustments as needed. Whether that meant finding a way to relieve stress, or making sure i'm hydrated etc.
