I'm also seeing tons of the "you only lost how much weight in X time" comments. It's not a race and any loss is progress.

I completely agree with you, and i'm glad you kept yours a secret to avoid the negativity. I'm only 5'1 and according to the BMI, anything over 130 is over weight for me so imagine what it takes to be considered morbidly obese, not much. I think everyone should be supported for trying sooooo hard to take control of their life back.

Second guessing my decision
xoxococojay replied to Lotte22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through that too. That's why i kept my surgery a secret until the day of, i didn't want that stress. But i promise, once you have it and you're recovering, everyone else around you will eat their words. Only you know what's best for you. -
Intro time: who's new to the group, who's pre-op, & who just recently made it to the loser's bench?

I'm so glad someone was able to give you suggestions on that. I was nervous to answer because i was not perfect on my pre-op liquid diet. The struggle was real. I will say the post op liquid diet is much easier to stick to because you will have no appetite. If you're a coffee drinker, mix decaf coffee with fat free milk and your favorite protein powder. I did that on accident one day because i was seriously craving a caramel frappucino. That's unfortunately, the only thing i can think of. -

You'll do great. Once you start getting used to buying smaller clothes, you'll be afraid to go backwards. Just remember it's 75% diet and 25% exercise. You'll be fine. You'll learn tons of healthy habits from reading other's posts that can be super helpful. That's how i learned. -

This is kind of a hard one, i'm not sure exactly what to suggest that best suits your lifestyle. So far i think you're doing great with the semi liquid diet. If you are able to maybe just light walking around the house for 20 min before bed. Or possibly water aerobics. But it honestly sounds like you're doing everything else right! Best of luck to you. -
The 6-mth Supervised Diet requirement
xoxococojay replied to allyb15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try counting your macro nutrients (not just calories) and drink tons of water. Get in the habit of working out at least 3x per week. Start at whatever level you're comfortable with. You can also try a pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks. But whatever you do eat, make sure it's protein rich, very low carbs and 5g of sugar or less. It sounds like you're on track though, the more you stress, the more the pounds stay where they are so also try things to clear your head and make you feel better mentally. -

That's exactly how my own family reacted. I didn't tell them until the day before. -

Pre op diet tips?
xoxococojay replied to Cantwaitbetty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tip 1: stay busy- the more stuff you're doing the less you think about food, this can transfer post op too Tip 2: stay hydrated drink as much water as you can, you'll have to do that anyway but it also keeps you feeling full. As far as shakes taste- go with whatever you want now in small quantities because your taste buds might change dramatically, so what you're drinking pre-op may not be palleteable post op and vice versa. -
The 6-mth Supervised Diet requirement
xoxococojay replied to allyb15's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No you won't get denied, insurance companies actually like to see you losing weight prior to surgery, it shows that you are taking this seriously. 6 months is just a requirement some insurance companies have, some do not. But the additional diet courses are well worth it. At the end of the day it's extra knowledge and knowledge is always power. -
Second guessing my decision
xoxococojay replied to Lotte22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nope, you have other co-morbidities. So just go for it, it's not about being super tiny, it's about feeling your best and being the healthiest you can be. The choice is always yours but given what you just said all of those other health problems would go away if you had the surgery. You've already come this far. I had to actually eat myself to the appropriate BMI in order to get my insurance to cover it, because i did not have any other health problems. But it was the best decision i've ever made for myself, 1 year later and i couldn't be healthier and happier. It changed my life, and i wouldn't call it a drastic change. You would be bettering yourself. -

Your recovery will be fine. Don't focus to much on protein the first few days, because you will have no appetite and might struggle with liquids. Just focus on staying hydrated as best you can and walking every hour to get the gas pressure to move. -

Why is it a secret?
xoxococojay replied to UndercoverDiet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Totally forgot to mention that just because we aren't telling the world doesn't mean it's truly a secret. I'm very open and transparent amongst the bariatric community, so much so that i volunteer and mentor patients at my local bariatric surgery center. And i'm in 4 support groups online, trying to help others going through the process. I'm willing to help them in any way possible. I just get easily annoyed with random strangers asking me to many questions lol, when they have nothing positive to gain from it. So people know but it's who i chose to inform. -

Thank you guys!!! -
Yes you need breakfast. Simple and plain. I'm not a breakfast eater i hate it, but i know i have to so i do it. It regulates your metabolism you know when to eat again due to hunger, not boredom. And it gives you the nutrition you need to keep going. Without it, i would have no energy in the am.

Failing and I haven’t even started
xoxococojay replied to sandra305's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It does. But once you actually have the surgery your whole entire outlook on food will change anf your appetite will go away. It's funny because pre-op everyone dreds the liquid diet but the first few weeks post op, you won't even be thinking about food. It will seem like a chore to eat. -

Lost desired for food

Yes that happens to almost everyone, myself included and i love it. It keeps me on track, and away from the food that got me into this mess in the first place -
Why is it a secret?
xoxococojay replied to UndercoverDiet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I absolutely love these questions. It's simple, we just don't want anyone in our business. The last thing i care to hear is have everyone in my life watch me like a hawk to see how much i've lost, or what i'm eating like i'm a freaking alien. Plus if i hear someone judge me and tell me i'm taking the easy way out, i'll have quite a few words for them too. Give me credit for something positive instead like taking control of my life back, eating right, working out like crazy. If those things alone were easy, obesity wouldn't be such a problem. Plus it also affects some of my friendships too from a jealousy perspective. -
