    Time off after surgery

I had surgery in Mexico on a Wednesday. I got homeon Firday and went to work on Monday. Then I took Tuesday off and spent it in bed. I wish I would have taken more time off. I had a harrowing trip back and was really dehydrated. Otherwise I probably woud have done better.

    Alcohol after banding

I just finished a beer. I know, I know. No carbonation. But I haven't had my first fill yet and I can consume almost anything.

    Banded

I was just thinking about you today. Congrats on your surgery. I was out and about right away too, then had to take a day off and spend in bed because I overdid it! Keep us posted.

Is there any help for us vegetable haters?

Go to the health food store. They have veggie capsules but I can't remember the name. there are also liquid suppliments you can take. Good luck. You'd better so something for fiber or you'll be posting about constipation next!

The negatives of this lap band.....

Delara has had such a miserable time. But most people on this board have had good experiences even if there are set backs. You can't expect to have a foreign object placed in your body and not have some consequences. Like I get things stuck - but it is my own fault for not chewing or eating bread. Otherwise, all had been well for me. Honestly, by the time you get to needing band, you've probably failed at a million other attempts and you probably can't do it on your own.

    Oh, LapBand, We Meet Again

StrawartS, you make me laugh everything I read your posts. When I get things stuck I find it helps to either stand or sit up really straight and dry swallow HARD. If you aren't in a public place you can also put your arms above your head. It helps me. I find that if I drink a lot to try and get the offending lump down, I barf up the liquid and the lump stays.

What are you not willing to give up?

I am not giving up eating out. I like to eat out. Although we are definately eating out less. Applebee's has the weight watchers menu and I also order salads with the lower fat dressing or the fish with veggies on the side. I will also have the occassional mini chocolate as a treat. I decided that I would have to change my lifestyle to work with the band but that I could get the band to also work with my lifestyle. But no way am I wasting all that $$$ I spent to get this band. I used that money to improve my health for my kids and I couldn't live with myself if I screw this up. Heck, I've proven for the last 40 years that I can't do this on my own!

    Update...

Thank you for having the courage to help the rest of us.
  12. I was banded on 2/22 and in BAD need of a fill. I am scheduled for one one 4/11. It can't come soon enough. I have had hardly any restriction since surgery and right now I can eat anything I want. So we are all different.

    Why???when???up 4 Pounds?!?!?!?!?!

Oh yeah. I Was banded 2/22 and lost 17 punds right off the bat. Then I got down to 20 pounds off then went up 5 when I was eating like 1000 calories a day. I was so mad! But then I realized how dehydrated I had been. I had to add salt to my "food" was so dry. That was fluid back that I really needed. I have my first fill on 4/11 and I am still playing the fluid game with about 3 pounds back and forth. I posted about my concerns and everyone said they experienced the same thing. I think you are on track.

    a dream

My friend is in a belly dancing group and they perform at all the town events. Many, many of these women are really heavy. But they are up there shaking their junk with the rest of them. They impress me!

    Bad Breathe

The bad breath can come from dehydration, need of more frequent oral hygiene and weight loss. If it is from weight loss the bad smell is really coming from your lungs since ketone are a byproduct of fat metabolism. All you can do is mask it with mints, etc. Brushing your teeth emore frequently can't hurt, but if this isn't the source of your smell you won't get rid of it.

    Approved!!!

Gosh that's great! I am excited for you.

    What was I thinking?

I wish I hadn't told so many people - but it is a catch-22. They will notice that you are gone during the time you are having the surgery and they will also notice that you are drinking nothing but liquids, then eating only mushy foods, Plus they will notice the weight loss. So you will get questions so matter what. Sometimes it is better to be up front. You've already told people so instead or wondering if you should have done it, deal with it in an assertive way. Be in charge. Tell them up front that this is not a GB and that you will lose weight more slowly. Also tell them in a nice way that while you want everyone's encouragement, please do not ask you how much weight you have lost and don't expect that you will report it to them. For some reason people think that they have the right to know, and that you will dutifully report it to them once a week. Also make it real clear that the first 6 weeks are for healing and that the band won't be fully functioning until you get a fill. Do you guys have lunches together or regular meetings? If so , this is the time to do it. That way everyone gets the same message at the same time. It's ok to tell people, but then expect them to react. This is big news. And don't expect everyone to understand. Most of the women in your school are probably fresh out of high school and have never been heavy. Some of the girls will not be able to relate. Don't worry about them. Younger people have a hard time relating to anything they haven't personally experienced themselves. It's not a criticism - just a natural fact of life. You on the otherhand, have experienced more just by being overweight. Overweight young people (I was one) have more empathy for others, but don't expect everyone else to be that way. Congrats on your decision. You will be glad to get this over with when you are young.

    lap band LONG TERM

Maybe I don't want my band for life. Maybe I can learn to control what I eat and eventually have it out. And monkey's will fly out of my rear! I hope it will last many years. Long enough so that I will have long since lost the weight I wanted to. If it has to come out after that, I will be ok. If it has to come out before then I will be MAD! I am cash pay and it is a one-shot deal for me.

    Some habits never die.

My hsuband has taken both sets of keys to work a few times. No jury would convict you...:angry

    Slow Leakage? Is This Normal???

Man, oh man. I really need my first fill and I am cash paying. I will be so upset if it "disappears" or doesn't work. I can't afford to keep doing it over and over. And I really need restriction badly!
  23. fiveholts714

    somebody slap me

You have "Last Supper Syndrome". We all get it. Just keep telling yourself that you will eat again...jsut less than before.
  24. fiveholts714

    I just realized...

They have equipment to help move people over. I was kind of lpo'd about my experience. I had surgery in Mexico and I had to scoot myself over onto the OR table after being sedated AND had to scoot myself onto my bed after surgery. No one made any effort to help me at all.

    EBAY LISTING:Pay for surgery

That is pitiful. If she put half the effort she put into begging for charity into finding a job she could pay for it herself. Really, that makes all overweight people look bad AND all people who rightfully need assistance to pay for it look bad, too. I weigh over 300 lb and have 3 LITTLE kids and am a director at 3 hospitals. I have complications from my weight but I keep plugging along and I had to wait until I had the cash to pay for it myself.
