When I woke up, that's exactly what I said! I told them it's the best sleep I've gotten in a month, and that they could put me back out and let me sleep a little longer haha!

My insurance did not require it, but my surgeon & his practice did, and does, for everyone. My surgeon is the one who did my endoscopy. I had an endoscopy done four years ago and they would not allow me to submit that instead of doing it again.

My sister had hers replaced while within the 1 year warranty, and shortly after that, it was stolen (she had a few too many drinks, and in the morning, found her Fitbit and her birth control pills missing LOL ) and she called them again to see if there was anything they could do and they couldn't send her another replacement, but they sent her a 45% off code so she could buy a new one. They're pretty awesome!!

Thanks, everyone! @@Hollyhock, he's utilizing AA, but not the steps. He goes to meetings and leans on others for support, but does not share his journey with his family. My mom died without ever getting the apology she always believed she deserved (and rightly so). Your last sentence really hit the nail on the head though, that his control issue is not my problem. You're so right. @@BigDog Bryan, thank you for that! I needed to read that more then I knew, so thank you. Congrats on your success!! It's difficult for me, because I want to live my own life, and have worked so hard to be so fiercely independent as I am. But at the same time, it would be nice for my dad to recognize that I'm still his kid, no matter my age. I guess we shall see.. @@dodlbug, At my heaviest, I was in shock when I looked at the scale. I was sure someone was playing a prank on me. My doctor told me I was knocking on diabetes' door, and that I had to get it together, so here I am!! Hopefully my dad will also have his fit and then get over it!! PS - My mom called me doodle bug when I was growing up. I think that's what your user name says too!!

So, I have to have the sit down chat with my dad soon. I'll have a date shortly and will need to tell him. I've posted this story before but real quick - I was supposed to have surgery five years ago, when I was 19. I was still on his insurance, and my mom and I thought it would be best to wait until everything was set and ready to go before we told him what was happening, that way we could answer all his questions and could give him a time and date that it was happening, ect. He operates best under those circumstances, but he flew off the handle, and canceled my surgery 48 hours before it was to happen. Needless to say, he probably won't be super thrilled about it this time around. However, a few things are different now: I no longer live at home, have my own insurance, and am financially independent from my dad. I do not want this to be the thing that completely dissolves my relationship with my dad, but would also not be able to go through with it without him having knowledge that it's happening. So please throw your positive stories my way!! I would like to be able to show him all of your successes, if we even get that far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, and will do this with or without him in my corner, but having him there would be nice. Also, any advice on how to deal with a stubborn, recovering alcoholic (five years clean and sober, go dad!), I'll take that too! TIA!

I'm super nervous about this, because I have alopecia. I've have five bouts of active hair loss in the last ten years, and last year was the most severe - I lost all my hair on my head, my eyelashes, and my eyebrows in a little less then two weeks. It was heartbreaking. My hair as grown back healthy, and is about shoulder length now. I actively use Biotin and I use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner. From what I've heard, making sure to get in all your protein and then some is the key to keeping your hair. Fingers crossed!

This waiting game is so, so hard. I had to cancel my monthly appointments with the NUT and psych (which are required in my surgeon's practice) in December because I had the stomach bug. I still have to do my blood work - waiting another week to two for my thyroid meds to get my levels back in check. But even after that, I have to make another appointment with the surgeon to schedule a date. My insurance has a three to five day window to approve, and there aren't too many doubts about that, but still, not having the green light gives some anxiety - UGH! I really hate my job, and I'm actively looking for a new one. I have really excellent insurance though, and I've met my deductible with all the pre-op testing. HR is giving me a hard time with a leave of absence using my vacation time. I just want a date so I have something concrete to work with - when to take a new job, when to go talk to HR again, ect. It's frustrating, but I'm just hoping everything will fall into place and work out in the end. I should also mention that I was thisclose to doing this once before. I was 19, and everything was done. My dad didn't like the idea of surgery, and he pulled me from the health insurance 48 hours before surgery. So, I guess if I've been waiting five years, I can wait a little longer haha.

I was supposed to do this while I was in college, but did not for reasons outside my control. At that same time, though, a friend of mine was doing it. She took the semester off to have surgery. Her surgery happened over Christmas break, and she took off for the spring semester. She wanted to focus on one big thing at a time.

I took my dog to the vet for her vaccinations last fall. As we were leaving, my vet (please picture a tall, proper, grey haired Russian woman with a thick accent) stated to me, "you must be vigilant about winter weight gain." And as I looked up to respond to her, she continued, "also, for the dog." Layla is my five year old mutt, four legged trash can. She's a German shepherd, lab and corgi mix and I adore her. Hi everyone! There are a lot of things up in the air in my life right now. I don't have a surgery date, but I'm estimating sometime in late Feb./early March. However, I'm looking at possibly having to move out of state shortly after that (but that's not set in stone, either). I don't know how it would work if I'm not about to check in with my surgeon three months post op. Has this ever happened to anyone? I know "life happens," and sometimes you can't plan for these things, but I was just curious if anyone has ever found themselves in a situation like this.

OMG, @@Finding_Stacy, I'm glad it's not just me! When I had surgery on my ankle a few years ago, they wheeled me into the OR, strapped me down to the table, connected me to all kinds of crap, and I was just laying there and stated to cry! I was terrified, and one of the nurses looked over at me and said, "oh honey, I'm sorry, we forgot to give you the good stuff!" I hope this surgery is different!!

I'm also a DSP, and I work the PM shifts, with a very rough population. I do 2-8 restraints on any given day. Very physically demanding work. I will be taking about 4-6 weeks off work. My SO, on the other hand, is also a DSP, but he does awake overnights like you. His shifts begin when the kids are in bed, and end around the time the kids wake up, and typically, he just kinds hangs out all night on the couch, moving only every half hour to do his rounds. So if your awake overnights are like his, I think you'll be okay with a week, maybe two. JMO

Hi everyone! I'm currently on track for a February 2017 surgery, and am super excited! I am, however, a control freak and a notorious planner. As 2016 comes to a close and 2017 right around the corner, I am looking for a new planner; as in, the notebook in which my life gets inked on (but if anyone wants to sign up to be my personal assistant to plan my life out for me, applications for that are also curently being accepted ). I live and die by my planner, but am looking for something that can help keep track of my meals and weight loss and notes in one place, too. I don't know if anyone else is into planners like I am. Maybe it's just me. I've tried the Erin Condren planners, and they were super bulky. I shop around for basic, simple planners at Target and Staples, but they just don't do it for me. I need something to balance two jobs, school, surgery (and all that goes with it), and appointments. HELP! Any and all suggestions will be taken/appreciated.

My dad could not be anymore against the idea of WLS - and I haven't even told him yet! I was supposed to have surgery five years ago. I was nineteen, in college, financially dependent on my parents, on my dad's health insurance (through his own business, so he was footing the bill for all things medical related). I had talked to my mom about WLS, and she was 110% on board, but I was much, much closer with my mom then my dad. We decided, knowing my dad and how he is, that we wait until all the test were done, insurance approved surgery, and we had a date, before we were to tell my dad. And that blew up in my face. My dad flew off the handle. He demanded to meet with the surgeon, and I humored him, thinking it would help things. It didn't - my dad threatened the surgeon, and 48 hours before surgery, my dad pulled me from the health insurance. My dad is a recovering addict. He struggled with narcotics and alcohol for most of my life. He is currently eight years clean and sober. My mom passed away almost four years ago, so her support is no longer there. I am twenty four now, I do not live at home, have my own insurance through my job, and am financially independent from my dad. I have gained almost 40 pounds since I was supposed to do this five years ago, and that's disheartening, especially since I have a friend who did it a month before I should have, and her progress is incredible! Despite being an adult, and despite having the support of everyone else around me, I know my dad will freak out with the news that this is something I'm planning on doing again. And, despite everything, he's still my dad and I will tell him. It's a struggle though, and something that stresses me out to no end. I'm sorry your dad doesn't seem to be in your corner, but he does seem to be coming from a place of concern (even if his scare tactics are insensitive). We need to do this for us, not for our dads. We have researched, planned, and thought about the decision we are making, and it is not for them. I wish you peace with your decision, and that your dad can find peace with it also.

It was simple - mine was today! I was scheduled for 9am but had to wait until 10am because I couldn't pee. They made me stop eating and drinking at 6pm the day before and I peed before I left the house. Since I'm a young woman, and was going under anesthesia, they had to take a pregnancy test (even though I had my period - apparently it's an anesthesia rule). So don't pee beforehand! Otherwise, it's really easy. It's a nice nap. Oh! And make sure you have someone to drive you home!

Hi everyone! I have my endoscopy on Thursday! Woo hoo! My doctor stated to stop taking ibuprofen, aspirin, and plavix five days prior to the procedure. I got hurt at work this week and they prescribed me naproxen, which is also an NSAID. I took a dose today before I realized what was up. Did anyone have an issue like this leading up to their endoscopy or their procedure at all?
