Do you need to be obsessed to be successful?
Travelher replied to Little Green's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Lol you sound like a former professional dieter like I was. Short answer is no. If you want to keep the weight off in the long term you need to have good eating habits. In the short term (1st year) most people will lose a significant amount no matter what. Beyond that it is healthy eating but does not need to be obsessive. So sounds like it could be a fit for you. Dr weiner has some great videos on YouTube about rates of weight loss and long term results -
I'm in the same boat with winter coats, not sure where my weight will be at the end of March for our ski trip. Bought insulated jeans too small (size 14)to wear for our trip in March and am wearing them today. So we'll see where I am in March and if I'll need to buy new stuff

You may want to add some carbs in if you are going to be doing an intense workout. Berries are a good choice maybe with your eggs and cheese.

16 lbs on my liquid diet...2 weeks too
-
Miralax over here as well. 1/2 cap every day
-
mine does the same. sat on the couch eating a box of cheesies crackers last night. i just thought.."thank god it isn't popcorn". i watch tv on my ipad most of the time. headphones on so don't have to hear and watch it.
-
ouch that is tough. I know when i was on liquids my husband made popcorn (my kryptonite). our popcorn machine is in our family room so I couldn't be pissed at him because that is where it is. I did fantasize about bopping him on the head and taking it from him. Because I can't expect him not to eat Snacks and popcorn (I'm having WLS, not him) I did the only thing I can which is remove myself while he is doing that. I went upstairs and had a nice long relaxing bath and ranted on here. is it fair to ask him not to eat and snack? No Is it fair to ask him to try not to do it in situations where you can't escape it (the car, etc, etc)? Maybe Do I buy unhealthy or snack foods for him when shopping?...nope. if he wants it he has to go get it. And yes it is still frustrating having people eat foods I love in front of me, i have gotten used to it though! I was irritated when my mom put a piece of cake at my setting over Christmas when she knows full well I can't eat it, so I handed it back and I busied myself clearing the table & cleaning up while dessert was being served. You won't be able to change your husband. You've told him how it makes you feel, that is all you can do on that front. now you need to find the coping strategies that will help you stay successful. you are soo close.

I Am Thankful For My Stall
Travelher replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm grateful for my last stall. I dropped a size right afterwards and am now comfortably in a 16 pant. expecting stall number 3 to start soon if it hasn't already. -

Carbs, Fats and Protein daily goals?
Travelher replied to Jess_eR's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
OK so a hard boiled egg is 64% fat (good fat), 3% carb and 33% protein. Do you count that fat as carb? I would think she dosen't count fat, but would count the carb as a carb. -
I would get a second opinion. it just never hurts. complication rate is not significantly different between the two surgeries. I went with bypass because i could not risk reflux with the sleeve having had it before. patch Vitamins are working for me, and sleeve patients also have Vitamin supplements in their regimen, just one less. i'd say the major difference seems to be the bypass portion which could give you dumping syndrome if you eat the wrong foods to excess (particularly sugary foods). I will dump if I drink a Protein shake too quickly so I slow down and am fine. I have had a bite of my husbands dessert and am fine and have no desire to test beyond that. The dumping syndrome appealed to me as an extra reinforcement. bypass takes an additional 25 minutes to perform (75 vs 50 minutes). any surgeon you speak to should share how many of each surgery they have performed and should have their own personal complication rates for their procedures. got these from my surgeon. first is bypass second is sleeve. t are the chances I might die from this surgery and are there any other immediate risks? SHORT TERM (bypass)Death* 0 % Staple line leak 2.1 % Internal bleeding 1.5% Colon perforation 0.1 % Deep vein thrombosis 0.4 % Liver/Spleen laceration 1.4 % Port site infection 1.2 % Heart attack 0.2 % Pulmonary Embolus 0.2 % * - These are the statistics of Weight Loss Surgery team’s private practice from 2006-2015 with no mortality in over 1,000 cases SHORT TERM (sleeve) Death* 0 % Staple line leak 2.2% Minor bleeding 1.5 % Liver/Spleen laceration 1.4 % Deep vein thrombosis 0.2 % Port Infection 0.9 % What are the long term risks from this surgery? I went bypass as well, mine was revision from a band. I had bad reflux with the band, but my doctor prefered bypass as the tried and true surgery. so happy with my decision.

my doctor was fine with the patches and my 6 week blood test was all good. have another one coming up in April. I was low in Vitamin d in my pre-op test.

I did self pay not Ohip but I felt you dont like optifast it is worth finding an equivalent and asking. You'd have to pay of course. Optifast makes me vomit. There are people with food intolerances that they would have to accommodate so it is probably worth asking...

I am meeting protein and water goals. I am able to eat 2-3 oz of meat at a meal and usually do 1/4 cup of vegetables with it. if I do something like chili it is 3/4 cup.

Carbs, Fats and Protein daily goals?
Travelher replied to Jess_eR's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I use my fitnesspal and not try to follow a balanced macro plan after being told by my dietician that my carbs were way too low. It isn't as high as she likes...but I feel good in this range. 35% carb, 25% fat and 40% Protein. There is a good Facebook group with recipes etc that helps explain and support this... https://www.facebook.com/groups/SleekandSassyNutrition/ I'm usually between 750-950 calories these days. -
Nope don't plan to do that. Wls resets your metabolism and given I ruined my metabolism the first time around with crash diets etc. I don't plan to repeat those mistake s again.

What was most difficult and what surprised you?
Travelher replied to LighterMe's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also had it easy. I think it was because I was up and moving a lot right after surgery. Actually I think liking to cook makes it easier. A lot of people get bored because they are eating the same prepared Soups or foods during the early challenging days. I was all over Pinterest and trying bariatric recipes making boring things taste better etc. The hardest part is the preop diet, followed by the first couple of weeks of post op. Once you are cleared for soft/purees you will be so excited to eat cottage chees you could never have imagined... -
Yep you are doing great and right around where I am. Weight loss in the the first year has more to do with genetics,,,if you are eating healthy and moving your body just stick it out. I walk 10,000 steps a day. I did 8-9 lbs. this past month..just had my dietician appointment and she was thrilled. Here is a chart for reference...
-
. Pretty sure she is talking about the thread on being treated terribly by a restaurant...that one surprised me too with the way it went...
-
A lot of people use timers to remind them to eat.
-
I define a stall as not losing or even gaining for a week or more...losing more slowly is not a stall, like some people think. I'm only 3 months post op, but am a former professional dieter so I have lots of experience with them. This time around first stall was at 3 weeks post op and was a week. Last one was two weeks. I know from experience that I will stall at least once a month, I just wait them out as I know I'm on track and sticking to plan.

What type of exercise in first month or two?
Travelher replied to ARNOLDSMB's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I'm 3 months out and walking 10,000 + steps a day. Walking very early on makes recovery easier. I spent hours walking on my first night after surgery (roommate was a snored so I needed to get out of the room). I swear it made recovery easier. By day 5 I was doing more than 5k steps a day and then it went up from there,.
