Advancing your diet- on your own

YES!! This is exactly what I'm going through!! I feel like I'm ready to progress into soft foods myself. I have less than a week left to go on the liquid diet so I didn't bother asking to be allowed to start the process of introducing soft foods. But yes. I am experiencing thee exact same thing. I wouldn't dare risk advancing without asking lol. I was scared to try any "free foods" on my pre op diet!! (We had a list of free foods to choose from. But I was scared of over indulging on them so I didn't eat them lol) I think you're the second person that has experienced that too!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Follow my Everyone is dying to get off the liquids, I knew that was the most import phase for healing, so I would not have considered asking about advancing that. Glad you would ask first, my best advice for soft and purees when you do get there is measure measure measure. Not everyone is as anal about following plan as I am and that is where people get into trouble, also my tip is if you are allowed 1/2 cup and you are feeling full on 1/4 Stop!!! Early stages are not the time to test limits. Be mindful about what and how you eat. That is what worked for me. I have friends who vomited non stop as they started stages, so know you may have to drop back a stage and that is ok and normal too. In solids you'll find some things work, others don't. Sometimes they work day 1 and not on day two. Take things slowly and start with smaller portions than you think you need.

    Weight Loss Rate/Patterns

You can't compare with others because there are a lot of factors that go into it in the first year and almost none are in your control...age, starting weight, sex, genetics.... Dr matthew weiner has a great YouTube video on this. You should watch it. Having said this my experience with 2 wls and my decades with dieting say that it usually looks like a bumpy set of stairs with a gradual declining downward slope. The longer out you are and the closer to a normal BMI you are the slower it will get. I have a friend who took 19 months to lose 100lbs...the last 9 or so months were just 1-2lbs a month..she still got there, so she didn't care that it was slow in The end. I set up a goals spreadsheet, I've built in a forecast that takes into account a declining rate of loss...so if month 1 is 15lbs, month 2 is less, month 3 is less than month 2. If I have two months of solid loss I can throw a party and count myself lucky.
  3. Infusing is fine. Microscopic levels of sugar from having a few berries or slices of lemon sitting in water. There is likely more sugar in your protein shake. Juice i wouldn't suggest, but infused water should be fine

Advancing your diet- on your own

But your words here define the real issue. This isn't a diet. It is a prescription given by the doctor that provides your body nourishment at the same time that it gives your body time to heal from surgery. It is dangerous to ask people to comment on violating that prescription.Making choices (good, not so good, or otherwise) pre-op is one thing; post-op is something completely different (that could be deadly). Okay, so you came in my thread continuing the trend of not answering the question. To me, it is a diet. It's a way of eating for a certain period of time. My surgeon, nurses, everyone calls it that. Not orders. There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking people about their experience with not following the diet plan. I know what the risks are. They kind of tell you that before you head in for the surgery. We all know the risks. However, that does not mean everyone follows them.Plenty of people who have had the surgery, knew the risks of not following the pre-op diet. Did that stop them from cheating? Absolutely not. Even though one of those risks was possibly death or not getting the surgery at all, temptation made itself known, and they still cheated. Now is it dangerous to ask them how their surgery went even though they cheated? Absolutely not. You're simply asking about their experience. The decisions you make both pre & post op will determine the rate and level of success with the surgery. A decision from both sides of the surgery can also mean death, not just post op. So if you have anything pertaining to the question at hand such as an experience of your own, I'd love to hear! But don't come on here trying to diagnose issues from a simple question. Follow my I think frenchie1977 did answer your question...her aunt did and died. You will have others who didn't. Not a lottery I suggest anyone participate in.

Advancing your diet- on your own

My answer to this is yes and no. I followed the post op diet to a t...I know it exists because you can die from not (someone on this thread knows someone who did die from not following it). I have a kid so not worth the risk IMO that I'll be the one that it kills. however, at the purée/soft phase I felt that I was ready to progress earlier than the plan to well chewed solids so I called my docs office discussed with them and got the ok to advance the solids stage a week or so early.

    Honest Buddy Needed

From toronto here and you are In The right place if you want people to be honest with you . I had an rny in October. What you are going through with liquids is normal. The first week is the hardest, second is easier. I started my Vitamins in the preop phase which helped with energy.

Good luck. you will love it. I was banded in 2005 and revised in October...RNY is sooo much better!
  11. You have to work up to that rate. I'm 3.5 months and now able to do between 800 and 950, doesn't happen overnight. I tried to up my goal in my fitnesspal by 50 calories a week. I was at 650-750 for the longest time. I follow a macro plan which I set up in myfitnesspal. I aim for 35%carb 25% fat and 40% Protein. if I"m 30-30-40 that's fine too. been working well for me. Lots of people are put on Keto plans (high protein high fat low carb. i was doing that until my dietician told me my carbs were too low. so I adjusted...still losing. I'm doing 900-950 pretty consistently this week and happy with that. my goal was to get over 900 to avoid "starvation mode".

    Stall Suggestions Please...

    I found this helpful.
  13. Yes, I did travel, I had a 5 hour drive. I went the night before and stayed in a hotel. My clinic had a mandatory 2 night stay and required to stay in the area for another 3 days. I did not stay...my recovery was very good and the doc said no problem to go home after being checked out. Just stipulated frequent stops to walk. My mother went with me and did the driving. That would not have been a great idea 2 days post op. I had no issues post op. Other than one incision that was stubborn to heal. But nothing to do there, but wait. One thing to keep in mind if you are flying is that you will need to get up and walking to make sure all the extra gas they pump into you is out of your system. I think it wasn't the fact we were driving that they were ok with me leaving after 2 days as opposed to 5. You will be weak for the first couple of weeks from low calories etc, but that. Didn't stop me from going apple picking 5 days post op. Or cooking thanksgiving dinner. My recovery may not be typical though I brought Soup mixes and Protein shakes with me. Basically anything I thought I'd need for 5 days post op...oh and a comfy dress I could pull on so I wouldn't need to fuss with clothing. You want loose comfy clothes...beware of things fitted to you waist because you don't know where your incisions will sit.
  14. I had bypass, no problems. I think it is also pretty standard for patients with diabetes. I don't have it. I chose it because it is proven to work in the long term and I had terrible reflux with the band so I didn't want the sleeve for that reason alone.

  17. Clearly obese men face discrimination like the rest of the obese population. the biggest difference is the societal expectation that women are required to be attractive. I once was told by my obese male boss in my performance review that i was overweight and it made me look sloppy (I have always worn suits and dressed professionally). I had a 40 bmi at the time. after I had lapband surgery (he didn't know) and I lost weight; the following year he told me that he was happy i listened to his feedback and gave me an Exceeds on my performance review. I was angrier after that than I was the first time. Not sure this happens to men in the same way.
  18. waaay too early to be worrying. You will lose if you are sticking to your plan. I never got sick or nauseous either. You just had a variety of surgeries and are probably retaining water with swelling and your body trying to heal. Also you are starting from a pretty low BMI from the start according to your stats. My goal is 10 lbs from your starting weight. I'm only expecting weight loss to be in the 1-3 lb a month rate when i'm down that low. I find my limit with meat is about 3 oz. with things like sashimi I can do 4. for total quantity i can eat 3/4-1 cup of food at a meal. If you are close to that it sounds pretty normal. you will lose just be patient, it isn't a race, but a marathon. Also, don't ignore your pre-op weight loss. it counts, it is weight loss. if you've had a big fast drop, it is normal to slow or plateau afterward
  19. You look amazing!...I'd kill to get there. I'm 3.5 months post revision...plugging away, but happy with my progress.
  20. I hate to break it to you but you are going to have to learn to deal with the family drama if you want to be successful in the long run. People do the surgery and gain it back if they don't stick to good eating habits. Part of that are strategies to deal with temptations. Eg. when my husband snacks in front of me, I leave the room, find something else to do. Going to a party I know will only have high carb snacks? I brink a shake or snacks of my own. When at a family dinner and dessert is being served, I get up and clear plates, start doing dishes. While eating with family, I avoid or eat around the high carb foods. Mine do not make a big deal, but if they did I'd ask them to be respectful of my choices as I am of theirs. Your family cannot sabotage you, only you can.
  21. Ok folks, I've created a spreadsheet (attached) I've updated any data or weights that were included in the threads. I'll continue to update as people post. I have a column for starting measurements and/or clothes size which I'll only update at the start of your challenge and the end so go ahead and add them if you want. I'll do weight updates weekly. just post your info on here if I've missed you. I can add people any time if you are late to the challenge. no problem. I have hidden feb and march for now but will open those up as we move along. Good luck everyone. New Year Challenge.xlsx
  22. Idk, I was asking if anyone had a band revision to another surgery with him. I assumed you were considering using him for a revision. In which case that is the first question I'd ask him. You want to hear hundreds (or more) ideally.
