    He's on his own diet regimen, and since he can't open the dog food bin himself, it has been pretty successful. We don't give him too many treats. His favorite activity is running around barking, and he's got almost two acres of Invisible Fence territory in which to do it. He loves chasing vehicles and people, so that helps keep him in shape.

    This is very often the view if I am not sitting at the table or my desk to eat.

    But it ain't invisible. ~ Clint Eastwood in Pink Cadillac
    I have seen a lot of people asking how to tell if you ate too much. Today I crossed a very fine line, and discovered it is indeed visible, or at least, palpable. I was preparing my normal 3/4 cup of food for lunch. I have learned that 3/4 cup is pretty much the ideal amount of food for my stomach, and it fills me up well. So I put just that much chili in a bowl, and stuck it in the microwave. As I was putting the vat of chili back into the refrigerator, I noticed a package of sharp cheddar cheese sitting there from the other night when we had company.
    "Well, that would look good on top of my chili!", I thought to myself. Not much longer than it took me to form the thought, three slices (small squares, one serving) found their way onto my now steaming, but very small bowl of chili. I proceeded to eat at my normal, slow pace, while perusing my favorite fat person forum. By the time I got close to the bottom of my bowl, I noticed that the feeling of food in my belly was reaching the bottom of my esophagus. Those three little slices put me over the top. I finished it, and it was distinctly uncomfortable. I will be sure to subtract the volume of cheese from the chili next time before sticking it all together. Either that, or Jester the dog is going to enjoy a small treat.

    I'm doing well guys, thank you so much for all the well wishes! They have me up and walking every two hours. Only complaint is the gas pain!

    I wish I would have known that it wouldn't work for me and it would cause me more problems. That I would have episode after episode for the last 5 years. And now have to have a revision to rny. I wish I would have known I would gain all my weight back and my comorbidities would all have come back. I wish I would have gone with the rny in the first place

    I think people can be successful with either surgery, but your surgeon is right that bypass patients have a statistically higher likelihood of success. I also think that you should try to make your decision based on medical and scientific factors rather than emotional ones such as "having your intestines cut and re-routed is icky and scary" or "I don't want my stomach to burn up in a medical waste incinerator!" or whatever other emotional factors might be at play. This is a medical decision you are making, so consult with your surgeon about things like:
    --statistical likelihood of success and how important it is to you personally to reach and maintain a certain weight;
    --whether you have GERD that might be exacerbated by the sleeve (or fixed with a hiatal hernia repair);
    --are you diabetic or pre-diabetic? If so, gastric bypass has better stats for resolving it
    --do you need to retain the ability to take NSAIDS or other meds that might be contraindicated with gastric bypass?
    --do you have intestinal problems such as Crohns or ulcerative colitis that might make bypass surgery difficult?
    etc etc. Good luck!

    I am 3 years out from my RNY. Here are my STATS: HW 249(this time I managed to lose 36#'s and kept it off) SW 232 LW 117 CW 125#'s. I got below my goal in 6 months, but I did gain 8#'s back. I have maintained my 124# loss for 2 and 1/2 years. I used to be on Insulin 2 times a day plus pills for my diabetes. I am off all meds for that. I use to take 12 different meds a day. Now I take 4 plus my Vitamins. People who say that the RNY is just too invasive I would ask them how much invasive is taking 80% of your stomach out? IT is gone kapoot. Both surgeries are a tool to help us get to where we want to be. We do the WORK!!! Either will more than likely get you where you want to be if you put in the work. It is NOT easy but so very worth it!!

    I initially wanted the sleeve thinking bypass was too drastic, but because of GERD I wasn't left with too many options so bypass it was. I had surgery exactly 9 months ago, HW 261, SW 242, and currently 142. No regrets here at all. The only difference is can see from sleeve is that I really have to watch my sugar intake, too much (like a bowl of ice cream) and I'll get sick. I can still eat anything however. I'm an impatient person and the results were quick, so I'm glad I was able to have the bypass.

    How long is your preoperative diet? You want to shrink your liver so they can perform laproscopy versus open.

    I'm about 9 days post op and obviously I don't feel restriction because I'm not eating anything haha I did move to full liquids though. When can I expect to start feel restriction because as I write I'm eating Tomato Soup but don't really seem to get full from it. I'm not necessarily concerned at all because I do take a long time to sit a drink my shakes and eat etc. but I'm just curious as to when people started to notice the restriction?

    I was also 2.5kg heavier from my surgical weight. About 5pounds gain After discharge but they were pumping Fluid in me. Now I almost lost them all after more than 24hrs at home.
    Pain isn't an issue now but I'm so tired and sleepy all the time and finding difficulty just getting enough Protein as my doctor recommend. Need to squeeze in more Protein.< /p>

    Me too SunsetSue, I was sleeved on 12/13. scale had me +4 pounds from the morning of surgery. I was just curious, I didn't let it bother me as I feel overinflated like the Goodyear blimp. I feel like a deflating balloon today ..all the GAS! (Hope that's not too much TMI)

    Water retention is very normal at this stage, don't weigh yourself for the first 2 weeks and then only once a week or less if you can control it, otherwise it will take over your life. Take body measurements once a month for comparison. Sometimes even if the number on the scale doesn't change your measurements will ????

    I doubt if the surgeons in the US would do a DVD because of malpractice concerns. My surgeon did take some pics for me though.

    Seems like it's not all that common! But by all means if you're pre op ask away to see whether it's something they would do perhaps one day I'll buckle up and watch it, I'll let you know how gruesome it actually is! X
