I know people who had the band, bypass and then myself having the sleeve and everyone of us is happy with our results.....I choose the sleeve because I didnt want to lose to fast, have saggy skin nor did I want to lose my buttt!!!!!!.....I too didn't have any health issues which made me a better candidate for the sleeve.....You have valid points about both my best advice would be which one of the pros is most important to you....If having dumping is important to you then go with RNY my friend is a year out and still don't mess with sweets.....If in the end saggy skin would be a major problem then go with the sleeve.....Good luck!!!

Nursenia reacted to gustavio in If you don't think protein is important.
So I had to go out of town for work for 4 days. I forgot my Protein at home and with meeting after meeting didn't have much time to eat, let alone find a GNC for more Protein. I had the free hotel Breakfast (which id just grab a yogurt) and then one more meal after that for the day. So I really was getting less than 20g of protein a day. Before leaving for out of town I was on a long streak where I was losing a pound a day and I was THRILLED. I just couldn't wait to get home and weigh myself. Well, when I got home I had GAINED a pound. I couldn't believe my eyes. I ate healthy, didn't eat much of anything, drank tons of Water. only thing i did different is that I didn't take my protein supplement. So there ya are folks. It IS important.

Hope you get approved!!! honestly you shouldn't told them what you was going out for.......My boss has been in her position for 6 months and has ran half the staff away so she was very upset when I put in for FMLA and had the nerves to ask what the surgery was for I polity told her that's personal information that I will not discuss with you........However some how she found out what it was for because my first day back she go "I like your new smaller scrubs" I gave her a big smile and said thanks and walked away....... Like others is saying I don't think they can deny you however my job was asking was it elective and was saying they could possibly give me a date to go out basically what time the company could stand to have me out.

As of this morning, I weigh 162.2 and have a BMI of 24.6! This puts me at a normal BMI for the first time since I was 14 years old! Feels great!
I've gone from 4XL shirts to M or L (depending on brand)
I've gone from 48 inch pants to 32 inch pants
    I started at 333 on February 9th, 2016
    I was 287 when I had my surgery on March 21st, 2016
    I am 162 today, October 28th, 2016
I'm off all high blood pressure medication
    I'm off my PPI
    I only take multi Vitamins
I have so much more energy
My chronic pain from osteoarthritis in my knees is reduced (hip not so much, so I'm getting it replaced in January)
While it has been a ton of work (as you all know), I can not imagine this process having gone better or being more successful!
Now I just need to worry about maintaining which I fear will be the biggest challenge of all.

Nursenia reacted to maquillage81 in From a bad dream to a happy reality
I'm 9 weeks out from my sleeve, and was in the habit of weighing myself every day, until my surgeon told me to stop driving myself crazy and just weigh myself once a week. So I decided to weigh myself every Friday to hopefully have a positive start to the weekend. I weighed in at 263.5 last Friday, but last night I had a dream that I stepped on the scale today and it said 355! In my dream I remember feeling like all the progress I made went down the tubes and that I would never be successful in my weight loss. Even though I knew it was just a dream, I woke up this morning feeling very anxious about weighing myself.
Well, I did get in the scale this morning, and the number read 257.5! That's 41.5 lbs down from my surgery weight of 299 and 56.5 lbs down from my highest of 314 lbs. Not to mention I haven't been in the 250's in about 8 years. I feel completely optimistic and motivated for the progress I'll be making going forward, and so grateful for this tool. As for my nightmare last night, I suppose it's Halloween, and we all deserve a good scare

You can buy insurance on your state's exchange for the year it is not offered by your employer if you quit, or you have the option of paying for your insurance through COBRA at your current job (assuming it's a company with 50 or more employees) for up to 18 months after leaving as long as you are not fired for misconduct.

The lab work can be ordered by your PCP and depending how it's coded ( covered benefit) , it should be covered by insurance. Prior to my surgery journey, my Pcp ran the same blood tests to see if I was deficient. This applied to several different insurance companies that I worked with or for. Obviously things can change but I have a friend recently who had a,self pay procedure done, had an infection which insurance picked up the cost per the benefits for the infection. You going to your PCP for follow up care like weight checks, blood work can be considered as covered.

I never had any followup with my surgeon, other than letting him know how great I was doing. My daughter is a gastroenterologist, and lives in a neighboring state, but she didn't need to do anything. I simply have my primary care doctor run blood work annually. I also saw a therapist for 2 years and attended local bariatric support groups up until about 8 months ago. Unless you have medical complications, followup psychiatric and emotional support is where you should focus your resources.
As for food, there are dozens of bariatric friendly cookbooks and recipe websites. Just google and you'll have a hundred different options within minutes.

Unless you have complications there is no reason you *need* to follow up with a bariatric surgeon. I don't know anyone who had surgery in Mexico who does. The standard advice I have seen is to see your PCP at 2 months, 6 months, and 12 months post-op. Have your regular blood and urine tests as well as Vitamin and mineral levels checked. Weight and blood pressure checked and recorded.
The lab work, without insurance, is what may kill you cost-wise. You may need to do some serious shopping around for that, but it's important.
As far as food goes, I'm not much help as I tend to focus on eating for nutrition rather than to stave off boredom. I really don't care if I eat the same things over and over again, so I don't ever really think about "new ideas" for food. That said, here's mostly what I ate during weight loss phase:
breakfast: chicken or beef roll-ups in romaine lettuce (with pickle relish, hot mustard, etc.)
lunch: chopped chicken breast with green veggies and a little light Salad Dressing
dinner: poached egg on refried Beans, tuna salad bake, lamb chops, steamed curried scallops, steamed cayenne pepper shrimp, chicken breast baked in yogurt, turkey-spinach-goat cheese burger patty, sardines in mustard.
    Good luck!
