mrssoupmix reacted to reree6898 in A Year Already....My Story (w/Pictures)
Today marks one year since I had my sleeve done. This year has really just gone by so quickly and my life has changed so much in the last year. A year ago today I was 319 lbs and wearing a size 26/28 in pants. I didn't have any real medical issues yet but I knew it was just a matter of time before they would start. I was getting to be on the border of high blood pressure and I knew that I would also likely end up diabetic within a few years if things didn't change. My joints were hurting all the time and my back would spasm with pain. I had thought about having surgery for a long time but prior insurance wouldn't cover it and I had no way to pay out of pocket for it. I changed jobs a few years ago and found that it would be covered finally. I saw my surgeon for the first time in July of 2015 and was sleeved September 28th, 2015.
In this year I have lost 157lbs and as of this morning weigh 162lbs and wear a size 10/12!!!! I have had many other changes and challenges this year that have tried to sabotage my success but through it all I have had to keep reminding myself that I have to do this for me and that I have to keep doing what I know is right and will carry me through and keep me healthy.
    My stats are as follows:
    Heaviest weight ever: 376lbs
    Surgery weight: 319lbs
    Current weight: 162lbs

I found the ocean spray diet cranberry, with a scoop of Protein powder pretty tolerable at that stage. It made the juice almost taste creamy. Sounds gross but it helped me a ton. And sugar free popsicles. Popsicle brand has a Tropical variety that was such a nice change from the standard cherry, grape, orange. Good luck. I am 2 1/2 weeks out and still struggle to get 65 oz of liquid in. Everyday is New day.

I use Syntrax Nectars. The taste is amazing, the portions can be adjusted, no terrible aftertaste, and it's thin like Crystal light. I LOVE them.

I tried a lot of drinks to get my Water in - Powerade zero, g2, infused lemon water, Vitamin water zero. Tart things worst best, I've found fake sugar tastes even more sickly sweet. Buy 1 or 2 of each and just keep trying them. I'm a month out and still figuring that part out.

    Thanks, friends.
My husband heard me having words with the scale and came in and asked what was wrong. I told him, in very colorful language- that I am not incredibly proud of, about going 7 days and not moving AT ALL. He looked at me and said "wow, wouldn't that be something if that's all you got out of this." OMG!
Although I know he was joking and my threats to end his life were also in jest. I can't say I didn't have that thought (all this for 23 pound!).
But you'd all support me, right? If I off-ed him, on the evidence of that comment (alone) as motive!

@@mrssoupmix me too. this was one of the first things i tried when i got home because i did think it wasn't too bad pre op. i hated it after surgery. i couldn't get down one bite. ive been getting most of my Protein through shakes but have used "better than bullion" as a clear liquid. it's really good but i only use 1/2 the recommended amount because it's very strong.

Had mine 9/27 lost 10 lbs pre-op and 13 post op. scale has not moved for a week also. Very frustrating. I know I will continue to lose as I am following the correct diet, but still very frustrating. Everyone is different, hang in there you will lose more. I am not getting on the scale again till middle of next week.

I am 15 days post-op and the scale hasn't moved in 3 days. This morning I gave it the finger and told it that I'm breaking up with it until Monday. In the meantime, I'm focusing on trying to ramp up my walking and maybe try and easy hike. You're not alone - hang in there!

Lol poor guy. I'm having my husband keep the scale locked in his truck for the first 4 weeks. After that bring it out only once a week. I know myself. I will be obsessed with the numbers rather than recovery. I'll find out what I've lost when I've seen the doctor. I only hope I don't do my husband bodily harm for doing as I asked when rational.

everyone is different. stalls happen but not on a set schedule. For example - I didn't lose ANYTHING the first 2 weeks post op, nothing. I can't really even call that a stall, more like a delayed start. Right now just focus on healing and following your program and stay off the scale for a while if it is going to upset you that much.

Im going through a stall right now. I am almost 4 weeks out.
I was on all liquids for the first 3 weeks post op and just started having soft foods on Tuesday. Talk about frustrating.
Ready for this thing to break so I can continue my journey.

@@The New Kel - I too had headaches this week so I think that's normal. I get nausea when I try new foods but haven't thrown up yet - thankfully! I have had no trouble meeting Fluid and Protein goals, so I've added some yogurt, SF pudding, homemade applesauce and had some verrrrry soft, mushy egg salad last night. It's not glamorous but it's nice to use a spoon again!
Congrats on your weight loss - thanks fantastic! I lost 10 lbs during pre-op and 11 since surgery, so I'm at 21 lbs total but have been stalled for the last two days. All in all I'm still pretty happy!
Best of luck and keep up the good work!

We were all sleeevd aroud the same time (I was Oct 3), so it's great to see your updates. I am happy to hear that you both are finally feeling better!
I have been doing ok, mostly good. I just get a bit of nausea and a headache sometime, but all in all, good! I've lost 7 lbs since surgery day, but I had lost 17 lbs during my two week pre-op diet so all considered 24 lbs gone!
I am curious to know what you are eating/drinking at this stage. I am still on full liquids. Can't wait till I can have real food again, lol! (my saving grace is a little bit of Tomato basil bisque Soup in the evenings.)
    Best to you both!

My first Friday lunch with the boys and hit a local bar in downtown WPB called Duffy's. 2 weeks and 1 day post op i'm souped out and ready for purees. Ended up ordering a black bean burger with an avocado and sliced tomatoes and a side of cilantro lime sauce. Burger was mushy enough that I mixed it all together with the avocado and tomatoes making more or less a half ass puree. Ended up eating about half with no bread. I didn't feel full but didn't want to push it. Walked a mile there and a mile back, now I'm ready for the other half.
Two lessons learned......1. Eating out is gonna get expensive for the quantity I'm eating and 2. Always grab a doggy bag to make the most out of the meals.
