I agree - I needed the kick in the ass for another Protein Shake. I ask advice for help and other experiences, not coddling. I can call my Mommy for that (but that'd get me an ass whopping over the phone haha!)

Agreed. There were some comments to me 2 or 3 days out of surgery when I asked about not feeling well and it was "get your protein!!" I was a little upset at the tone, obviously I'm trying and drinking Protein shakes, not Coke. But in the end, it's true. I need more Protein. Tough love

Hi ladies (and men, if so inclined)
Just wanted to share something that's really helped me. I've felt pretty sick, tough recovery so far. Each night, I've been digging out something to pamper myself. You know, that stuff we buy, use once and then put on a shelf never to be seen again?
Well, I busted it out. I've been doing face masks, sugar scrubs, lip scrubs, etc. It really has helped mentally. Bonus, all that stuff doesn't go to waste!
Just wanted to share - I may feel like s**t but my skin looks good!
Also, I tried to put this in the "powder room" forum and it wouldn't let me?

Fun!!! I just returned from my mani/pedi. I so wish my husband would get his toes done. I'm regretting my decision to go out in the heat now though. Keep wondering if this is my new life. At least I'm have nice nails.

What I would give for a chicken nugget - got to have Protein in it right? I can't get any of that in. A few won't hurt.
Oh right - I don't want my stomach to literally pop open!

Im a big fan of pedicures, especially for us big folk who cant really reach down well for toe maintenance. I even had my husband come with me and get one as part of our "epic date weekend" in April. I am getting my hair recolored, eye brows waxed, my nails done (gel polish) and a pedicure the weekend before my surgery. I figure I should look as good as possible for the "before" pics... plus I prob wont be up for it for several of weeks after.

I'm an aesthetician and cosmetologist. If you mix up coffee grounds and body wash to a paste and use it as a scrub it helps with the skin. It's very invigorating. Supposedly it helps firm and tighten skin. It's kind of messy. You also can use salt or sugar mixed with your favorite body wash as well. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using the BariatricPal App

I also like full body sugar/salt scrubs. They're sosososososo good. Also, I've read they help with excess skin. Who knows if it's true, but can't hurt!

I went to a spa earlier in the week and it's the first time I was confident enough in myself to have a massage and I'd seriously recommend it to anyone - it was absolutely lush

It frustrates me to no end, I followed my preop diet perfectly. Went off my celebrex, did all the shakes and broth/soup. Have not cheated at all post op (I'm human so I'm sure that will change at some point). And I am having a horrible time of things! But these people eating tacos and pork chops and God knows what else are fine! Talk about frustrating!!!!
My husband has even committed enough that he eats his meals at work so not to tempt me. He has his popsicle for dessert at home (his are fudgesicles though) and on the weekend sticks to food I don't like.
Our family went to therapy together to make sure our whole household was ready. It was a lot of work. But here are some folks, willy nilly doing whatever. Ughhhhhhh!

I am grateful to the veterans who post on this forum. I lurk most often. I was in therapy for two years before I was even ready to consider the surgery. Then I attended a seminar in July of 2015. Started the process in January and had my surgery in July 2016. Surgery went fine and I did really well for two weeks and then was violently ill for 3 weeks. Turns out my gallbladder needed to come out. Since May I have lost 78 lbs. + 8lbs I gained each surgery in fluids. I know that some of it is because I literally could not eat or drink for 3 weeks but I still give myself credit for every pound. Now i am learning to eat again with the sleeve. It is still hard to get my liquid in but doing well with Protein. Head hunger can be a real thing at times but I know that my body cannot handle the things my head wants. Since I have recovered from the gall bladder surgery, I am getting more and more confident. When I have questions, I come here and find posts from veterans that have already answered them. Thank you, Lipstick Lady and others. BTW, I am meeting one of my heroes this Tuesday and will be getting my picture taken with him. It is the first time in a long time that I am looking forward to a photo and I am still more than a hundred pounds away from goal. Feeling better about myself everyday.

I've had no trouble with a bra - incisions are lower. Large incision on left probably dead between belly button and breast, it's the highest one. I recommend yoga pants with the flip down band - only flip it up. Covers up to about bra line. Old Navy has some I like. For reference, I am tall 5'10 so may be more compact for others. Used the same yoga pant method when had gall bladder removal last year and incisions were totally different locations.

My surgeon has had 1 failure, they drove to the McD around the corner and ate a big mac. I can't imagine, I hurt so badly then. At a week out, that greasy "meat" still sounds nauseating, but I understand how people need food. I have wanted a cheese stick, but am too scared!

Yeah my friends in Texas have been posting temps in the 100s on Facebook. Not good for recovering from surgery. You might have a lot of energy post-op, I did, but I would get tired very fast. I would go from being full of energy to exhausted almost instantly.
Just tell him you aren't going and leave it at that, then you don't have to worry about getting there and wanting to go home, or wasting money on a ticket or whatever.
If this is his attitude now, this does not bode well for the future of your relationship.
Is he otherwise supportive of your choice or does he see it as an overall inconvenience?
And now I am going to be nosey, you shouldn't be taking care of some dudes kid without a ring and his last name. When you start focusing on yourself and taking care of yourself and looking better, he is probably going to show out with you. Like sit in front of you and eat all your favorites when you are 3 weeks out and on purees.

I know a lot of people are against food funerals. I however am not.
I ate whatever I wanted until I start pre-op and I found that it helped me get through the weeks of not eating, and also I really didn't eat as much as I thought I would. Most people have anywhere from 3-5 weeks they are not chewing anything. Looking back on those food funerals I was able to get over not eating.
I'm sorry about your family, but you don't need your aunts approval or support. It would be nice, but you can do this alone. Good luck.
