    November RNY Surgery Buddies 2016

I called the office yesterday and apparently they have already started the appeal process. I just don't understand what the first part of the denial even means.... to me it sounds like they aren't going to approve the sleeve because it's experimental. And I don't understand why they have something about a 6 month supervised diet in my denial when they already told me that it's not a requirement..... insurance is just super frustrating Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Did the office do the appeal for you or did you do your own. I was denied by insurance yesterday Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. I don't even have gerd lol, that's a diagnosis from my pregnancy 2 years ago. I'm hoping all of the appts I've had with my dr, surgeon, and nutritionist would all be able to count as weigh ins that count toward the 6 months. I called and asked my insurance why they are telling me I need to do the 6 month diet when I've already been told by my insurance that I didn't have to. She said it's not a requirement, it's a recommendation. Insurance really is a joke. Why am I paying 500 a month so they can deny all my requests for care. All appts with the nutritionist are automatically denied payment because they cover the surgery, but will not cover the appts necessary to fulfill the requirements for surgery. Sooo very frustrating.....But at the end of the day, it's not anything every other person on the planet isn't dealing with. I'm going to call the Bariatric office tomorrow and see how they suggest I proceed with it all. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. This is the letter they were very quick to send me. When I started this process I was told the 6 month diet was not required, however, they denied me because I did not do the recommended six month diet??? I do t get it. I can appeal or do the 6 months and re submit. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. Well I did not get a quick approval, however I did get a quick denial. This is so upsetting. I wish I hadn't called while I was still at work. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Insurance

I called the insurance company yesterday after a week and found out my file never made it there. Called my drs office and she told me she had just resent my file that morning. Not sure i believe that. I will call the insurance company again tomorrow to confirm my file did actually make it there. Frustrating. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  8. I hadn't heard anything for a week and thought I should call my insurance just to make sure they had received my file. Nope! So I called my drs office and she said oh I just re faxed that this morning and got a confirmation that it went through. This waiting is torture!!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Tomorrow it will be a week since my drs office has sent over my info.... I emailed my insurance company and all they said is they have no record on file of any pre-authorization..... I think I'm going to have to call and ask to speak with the person reviewing my chart directly...... I don't want to be a pest but I want to make sure that they got all of my info!!! 10. Which BCBS do you have? I have BCBS Texas and have been waiting over 2 weeks for my approval, they said it sometimes takes a month. Each BCBS is different, each state is a different company, and there are different plans even within each state's BCBS. Anyway, good luck. I am tired of worrying about it, I need to get my mind off it. Have you heard anything back from your insurance yet?! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I am tired of worrying about it, I need to get my mind off it. Have you called your insurance company to make sure they've received all of your paperwork? I talked to my insurance company early on in the process to see exactly what my requirements were and they said they had to have an answer in 15 days which is a relief. Hopefully you hear something soon! Hopefully we both get good news Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. She said they are allowed 30 days but bcbs is pretty good about responding within 2 weeks. I sure hope so!! All of this anxiety is making it impossible to sleep at night. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. I just finished my last appointment needed for insurance approval yesterday. The insurance coordinator told me my file would be sent off to insurance for approval today. She said my insurance is pretty good at getting back to them in a timely manner, hoping that is the case. I have been so stressed about this for the last 2 months it will be such a relief to finally get a surgery date and get things moving.... Fingers crossed these last few steps go smoothly!!!!! 14. I have one appointment left before they will submit to insurance. My insurance did not require the 6 months of appointments with the nutritionist, just 2 years weight history, documented weight loss fails, blood work, and bmi over 40 or 35-40 with 1 comorbidity. At my initial consult I had a bmi of 41, and I am on medication for high blood pressure, gerd, and have arthritis. I have a letter from my obgyn and primary care recommending surgery due to my current health and my family history of heart disease and diabetes sleep apnea etc. The only thing I have for documented weight loss is a personal statement. I never did any doctor supervised diets, or diet pills. Hoping the letters from my pcp and ob are enough. I'm just so nervous I feel sick over all of it.... After reading all the blogs I know these feelings are not unusual. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
