It's super simple for me. If I drink within 30 minutes of drinking, I vomit. I don't like vomiting.

It was hard, but you'll get into the swing of things. The discomfort was the reminder that I needed. It will work out for you...good luck!

Yea...never followed that stupid rule. It's designed to make sure you don't wash the food through your stomach too quickly and end up eating too much. I decided from the start I wasn't spending the rest of my life with a dry mouth and I literally have not once since surgery had food without something to drink. I've been at goal for 18 months and I hit goal in 18 months, so it's not a requirement for weight loss or a medical necessity as long as you are completely conscious of not eating too much. Right after surgery you will get sick if you eat too much while drinking, but down the road, you need to pay attention to it because you can easily munch your way through way more food if you're drinking at the same time.
Past that...no dry mouth for me, lol.

I avoid the Water when eating. Sometimes I forget and it is really evident because I eat a little too much. Leave the water somewhere else, tea, or whatever. It does make a difference.

I'd say for a good number of people here, myself included, it's one of the hardest issues we deal with. I'm allowed to drink right up to my first bite. I'm fortunate (?) enough that I feel a horrid pain if I drink too soon after eating. Don't care for the pain, so it is enough of a motivator.
I also find that when I'm finished eating, I get up, start cleaning up and doing the dishes and by the time I'm finished there, I'm good to go.
Also, make certain your meals have a lot of moisture in them- you're less likely to want to drink then.
    Good luck.

My doc said taking a small sip to wet your mouth is ok. Put Water in a shot glass when you eat and dont consume more than that.

This has been an extremely helpful thread! I am getting sleeved on 09/21 and I'm currently doing the 2 week clear liquid pre-op diet (and struggling a bit!). It's been really helpful reading all the comments here regarding the liquid part afterwards - thanks all

This is what I made last night - with lots of garlic (didn't put cheese on it but YUM). I ate so much that I think my pee will smell for days! :-)

Spice is key for me! Siracha on eggs- heaven. Tabasco or Louisina Hot Sauce mixed into some home made queso a must. As for other spices- it's what keeps things fresh and interesting. There are only SO MANY ways to cook a chicken breast or thigh, eat veggies- though I don't mind them plain with some S and P.
New obsession? Oven roasted asparagus - drizzle with olive oil, a good sea salt (pink or Himalayan) and fresh cracked pepper. Gets a little char on them, and then some fresh shaved Parmagiano-Reggiano over it and I'm in ecstasy.

Sriracha is a righteous condiment if ever there was one. I have fond memories of my first month post op.....somewhere around the 3 week point I was making some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup.....and added a squirt of sriracha in there....and bamsucka ! It was a game changer.
When it comes to Swiss cheese, though.....I dip it in either Tobasco brand Original or their Garlic version. Both are among my favorite hot sauces.
I'm such an idiot......as you may have suspected already.....now it's confirmed.
    I misread your post.
    My apologies.
Good job being proactive with fiber and the colace.

Yeah I definitely agree with this. Cheese adds up in calories quickly and that could definitely stall weight.
    Personally I couldn't live without it. I eat 2 baby-bel cheeses a day!

If I didn't eat cheese, (its one of the foods I actually enjoy) I would never eat enough calories.

I have ate full fat cheese since I was cleared for any food. I also eat it at least daily. I lost my weight pretty fast (normal BMI by 8 months out). I am also eating cheese during maintenance with no issues. Carbs on the other hand can stall my weight loss... Now they have have stopped my loss (which is good since I don't want to loose to much more)

@@Jesm1029 I don't think it's the cheese. If you're exercising alot - try increasing Protein and be sure you are getting plenty of fluids. Change up your exercise every now and then too.

Horreychit.........a cup of cheese a day would lock my system up tighter'n Fort freakin Knox.
I'd never be able to have a BM.
    Damn......just damn.
I love the hell outa some cheese. I almost can't control myself with some proper swiss dipped in hot sauce (yes....I'm freaky that way).......but I have to slow my roll......cheese and nuts are on my "limited amounts" list.
In fact.....when I think about it.....damn near everything is on my "limited amounts" list......except for Water, coffee, air and exercise.

    What @@LipstickLady said.
    I'm the same. Exactly.
As for cheese types- the lighter in color the better it is for you. Skip the low fat crap. It you're adding shredded mozzarella to the top of your food, use the regular stuff. Fact is, you can't eat that much of anything (I hope??!), so a bit of cheese shouldn't be an issue. If you're melting a ton of velveta cheese PRODUCT, well now, that's not really cheese, I would say.

@@Jesm1029 It depends on what type of cheese - some have higher carbs than others (and low-fat doesn't always mean better for you on a low carb/high Protein diet). It also really depends on what you are putting the cheese on. How many carbs / calories are you getting? How much Protein?

I eat cheese' all day long. Full fat cheese. YUUUMMMMM... I do eat extremely low carb but I don't care about fat and calories too much. I spend a small fortune every month at Wegmans because their cheese' counter is to die for.

The richer the cheese', the better. I can't eat much, so I can afford it.

It didn't stall my weight loss at all!!

I only had to do three days of clears and then i switched to "full" liquids until I was two weeks out. I also drank the Isopure clear drinks - but I could only get half of one down a day. I did broth and was able to do the Unjury chicken Soup based powder on clears - it makes for a nice savory change. But yeah, the Clear Liquids are a struggle to get through and my head definitely played with me regarding cravings and "head hunger". I think you'll feel much better when you can move on to full liquids. But definitely check out taking a PPI - that will help with some of what you may be thinking are hunger pains.

Hey, I am 6 days out. I haven't been "hungry" but wouldn't mind some crackers. I did switch to primer Protein and it made a world of difference for the taste. I was actually angry I drank the other shakes, what a difference. I am worried I can drink so much- I am waiting and waiting. I get all my Fluid in, I found the Soup made me bloated. So I eat Popsicles and Water. Tomorrow I get a cracker and deli meat. I sound crazy!
