Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I was talking to some support group friends that commented they cannot get their protein in..not sure why. I emphsized how much I need to do a daily food journal. I use TheDailyPlate. that way I am accountable for anything and everything I put in my mouth... I mentioned the isopure to them..and some did not even know about it.... but if you are drinking your fluids, why not take in 40gms of protein as you drink. Alsp, I like my protein bars. I usually go for those that have the lowest carbs and highest protein, and I look at the calories too. Atkin Advantage morning bar are my normal breakfast I especially pushed the daily protein amount to one girl, she was complaining about not getting in her daily protein... Hope everyone had a safe and happy Memorial Day!!

    March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hope everyone has an enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend. I am just enjoying the time to relax and enjoy the great weather, finally I ate something bad...too much greasey, fried food. I did not eat all that much but the grease on it made me so nauseaous!!!!! I did not get sick, but felt lousy. So now all I need to do is remember not to do that again  No big plands for the rest of the weekend, just hang around at the swim club and enjoy the sunshine...then back to work on tuesday!!! Have a great Memorial Day everyone

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

going off Topomax cold turkey is not good... definitely need to taper yourself. my daughter takes it for her migraines and it is so helpful, without it she cannot make it through a day. So if your headaches are anything like her's I can imagine the pain and discomfort you were having. and for her it is works as an appetite suppressant...the DR was going to take her off of it if she kept losing weight... BP meds. My blood pressure has been consistently getting lower  DR mentioned cutting my meds in half, so a few weeks before my next appt I am cutting them in half. Other meds. Since surgery I have gone from 8 pills per day to 3.. so excited. The savings at the pharmacy are great, but knowing I am getting healthier is the best reward. I am hoping an ioncrease in my variety of exercixe will help with my body. I know the sagging skin was going to be an issue, but even after just 40# I see alot of excess skin. Glad I am saving for that tummy tuck when my weight is lost.. Hang in there everyone. There are those days of stress and whatever else life brings. Just get up brush yourself off and get back to your routine.

I have found that having an exercise buddy is a great help. We get each other out there for our walk at least 4-5 times a week and have decided to join the YMCA. meeting with a fitness instructor in the next week for insight on the proper routine.. I am so excited.. need to work on the flapping arms and sagging tummy and butt.... Luckily still losing at a pace of about 2# per week, but I can see that I have to work on the body..... We all have to remember this is a tool for us, just as Fenton said. WE still have to do the work and change our eating habits.. and I find the food journal is my best friend, well at least a friend!!!!

I had my first fill almost 2 weeks ago, 4cc in 14cc band, and after the first few days, liquid and mushies, i felt some restriction, now not as much today scheduled for another fill 6/5. guess I'll wait until then to see how I am doing. Different foods go down easier than others. but usual eating too fast and too big a bite without enough chewing cause issues. Fills are as different for each of us, as are the diet restrictions our doctors give us.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Just got home, 9+ hours in the car. Was pretty conservative on my intake today, lots of liquid... my daughter hated me saying I had to stop and go to the bthroom..... I had over 1000 calories, both Sat and Sun. I know it is not excessive, but i have been staying around 900 calories. At least I burnbed up a fair amount, but am edgy to get out for my walk again on Tueday. Tomorrow will be conservative with food intake, too. Was a great weekend and great to spend it with family for a joyous occasion..but now back to work!!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I have been dragging clothes out from the back of my closet. Some have tags on them from last time i attempted to lose weight, now they are to big. thank goodness for a clothes swap with my support group. Shoes too, i am walking out of my shoes.. great feeling overall. My daughter was even laughing the other day about clothes styles. she is 28 and has her clothes from college. and says she is pulling them out and right in style..animal prints, one bare shoulder. she is a nurse and in scrubs most of the time, so now her clothes closet is in fashion and her budget "safe".. I had a rough weekend. went out of town to a wedding.. overate... and paid for it. my daughter saw the look of dispair on my face a few times....knew i had eaten too fast and too much. it did pass without getting sick, but i felt miserable!! Today back to liquids while traveling and back to my walking when i get home. It was a great weekend and i enjoyed myself immensely, except for my food issues.. but taking it as a lesson learned and hope the 2 day boost in calories gives my system a boost for weight loss.. Congrats to all the newly banded and can't wait to here about your surgery journey..:biggrin2:

nycm0 - luckily my gp came around. she was not in favor of my choice for LP, but knew i had struggled with my weight for the 20 years I have been with her. she did send over a whole year of clinical notes on my weight loss struggle to my surgeon. Now she is in my favor and sees the results and how happy i am. her concernis that i will go off the deep end and lose too much too fast. Told her "not an issue". I have a goal and will strive for that but am not stupid. I agree though, check with your surgeon for GP near to you and try them out. I am sure they know several that are knowledgeable and support the surgery..

    Any locals?

I am trying to keep active here in Cincinnati. lots of little things to do to help out..not alot of physical exerscion, but not just sitting around. And trying so hard not to be tempted by all the snacks that are always out in the open A bit chilly for my choice of outfits, but i am gonna show off my new body, even if it is a work in progress...

it does seem rediculous to take in 1600 calories and still expect to lose. I keep myself around 900 per dy and keep up with my walking. so far i have averaged 2# per week.. Would love that to continue

The 2 day liquid and 2 day mushy after a serious pb is the same regimen i have to follow after a fill. Thanks for remining me, a bite size is so important. I have been taking bigger bites than I should and experience a little "pressure" when eating. Tonight I had 2 chicken tenders and was totally stuffed.. guess my fill is actually helping..

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

exercise, I may not be addicted, but I feel lousy if I cannot get my walk in every day. Next is joinhinh the YMCA. Have a lapband buddy to exercise with. Have a whole plan set for our routine. And of course my grandson will love going to the pool there. Will be tough to keep up with my walking this weekend. But I am going to try. 2 days in a car driving 9+ hours each day, sucks!!!! but going to a nephew's wedding to that makes it all worth it. Take care al. Enjoy the wekend ahead..

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hey Beckyo, congrats. I am also 5'3", started at 248# and I am 54 years old. Surgery was 3/19/088, I have lost 39#, 9# of that was before surgery. I have lost on the average of 2# a week after the first 2 weeks after surgery. I had 2 days of liquids before surgery. So not anything drastic. I enjoy the Unjury chocolate protein powder, and GNC has some great protein powder flavors. It pretty much depends on your own taste buds as to what flavors you may like. I do find that the GNC are best really cold. I never cared for the soups: cream of mushroom or cream of brocoli, tastes a bit pastey and blah!! Hot chocolate is wonderful  Some peopple enjoy the Isopure liquid, again I need it really cold!! You will hear different favorites from each of us...So have to decide for yourself what to try..

    Any locals?

Paulette - glad all is ok. Has to be tough with work, your mom in the hospital, family and just plain everyday stuff. Hope you can join us walking soon 366 - you can always find support with this group. If we all use each other for support I think we all will have that much more success. It is great to have others to talk about the band, life and to vent our frustrations.. Paige - Where have you been. Las I heard was you had a fill, almost 2 weeks ago. hope all is ok. Lisa and I have been walking as regular as we can, usually ast the mall, since we can walk later and not have to worry about it getting dark out. I had my fill last Friday and after the few days of liquid and mushy I could really tell a difference. Eating so much slower and eating less... I am heading out of town Friday - Tuesday for my nephew's wedding. Not looking forward to the 9+ hour drive, especially with the weather forecast of rain and storms. Also, am going to try and get some walking in, but not sure of the schedule for while out there....wish me luck.

I am feeling some restriction, Had 4cc fill this past Friday. I am eating about 1/2 of what I was before the fill, that makes it difficult to get in my protein.. adding lots of protein drinks to reach my required amount.. Have a weekend out of town for a family wedding. No idea of what there will be to eat or what the schedule will allow. Just hoping to have a good time and not gain..

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Janet - so sorry to hear about your DIL. I can't imagine the fear and violtion she feels. So glad to hear she is doing well. And you got to see Trace Atkins. All the best to her for a speedy recovery. Denise- Baby steps, is a good way to describe the process. It is a daunting tsk to clean a house and get it ready for sale. My siblings and I took almost 5 months before we had my mom's house up for sale after her death. All but one of us were out of town and that also makes it that much more difficult to get things done. Now we work on my sister's place. All the best in this endeavor. My fill - went great. 4cc in my AP-L band. thought i felt nothing different, but went out to dinner lst night. and felt it. But there is definitely a difference depedning on what I eat. All I had was some sashimi..(100% protein)and it tasted great.. but only 4 pieces/ I used to order 3-4 sushi rolls and devour them all by myself.. This is my big weekend. Off to Cincinnati for my nephews wedding. This is the first time I will be seeing my brother and his family since end of January. and boy wll they see a difference. I bought a great dress and still looking for the shoes......always something.. God bless to all.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Denise, I can underdstand your issues. I have also had to do much of the same, twice in the past few years. Is there a chance of having some sort of "estate" sale. It is a great way to sell things that you need to and you don't have to remove them from the house. Not sure iof it is something that is typical on the west coast.. I agree, that if you can get anyone to help that is the greatest thing. Stepping back and taking care of you is also very important. Keeping you in my prayers..Take care

Happy Belated Mother's day to all the moms. I took my grandson for a haircut, new pictures, then went to dinner with him and my daughter. A busy day for the little guy, but he was an angel!!!! Dinner was a shrimp, avocado salad from Applebee's. I ate most of the toppings and a little lettuce. After a fill on Friday it was my first real food. Felt pretty good, but did have a few bites too many.. I'll be more careful today with what I eat, since I am only supposed to be on mushies. Rain, cold, windy.... is this mid May or mid- March??? I want warmer, sunnier weather..:confused2:
